Finding Nemo is the #1 DVD of all time!

Walt Disney Pictures presentation of a Pixar Animation Studios film <b>Finding Nemo has sold 15 million DVDs making it the #1 DVD of all time</b>; in addition "Nemo" has sold 20 million combined DVD/VHS units within its first 14 days in the United States and Canadian market, it was announced today by Steve Jobs, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pixar Animation Studios, Michael Eisner, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company and Bob Chapek, President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

DVD sales have now topped those of Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's Spider-Man and New Line Home Entertainment's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, each of which has sold roughly 14 million DVDs since being released last year.

Consumer spending on "Nemo" has now matched its U.S. box-office gross of about $340 million.

Commenting on this exciting accomplishment, Jobs said, "Pixar's creative team pours their hearts into creating the industry's best DVDs for our films, so this resounding success is especially gratifying. We're thrilled beyond words."

Eisner commented, "The computer-animated blockbuster that captivated adults and children alike with oceans of fun continues to deliver after its record-setting first week on video and DVD, which just goes to show the power of blending superior story telling with cutting-edge technology," said Eisner. "The home entertainment success of films like 'Finding Nemo' proves that the consumer's enjoyment of our properties continues far beyond the theatrical release, and that these enduring films provide a strong, sustained revenue stream for the company."

President of Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Bob Chapek, added, "No amount of research could have ever predicted this type of overwhelming response from consumers across all demographics. Given the exceptional demand, we expect sales to stay strong through the holidays securing 'Finding Nemo' as the bestselling title of the year."

I always said that Nemo would do this by the end of the year, but it's incredible to see it happen three weeks out of the gate, even before the inevitable holiday rush. Wow!

While not at all surprising, I don't think any of us could have guessed this would have happened this quickly. 15,000,000 units in two weeks? I wonder what the current install base is for DVD players and how this number compares...40-50% perhaps? Higher?

Dad and son.
Son gets snagged by diver.
Diver puts son in aquarium.
Overly protective dad sets out to find son.
Dad meets fish w/ memory problem.
Son makes friends in aquarium.
Dad and Dory meet sharks.
Son is now called "sharkbait".
"P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney"
Dad and Dory meet turtles.
Dad and Dory meet whale.
Dad and Dory meet Pelican.

...and that's just up to the point that they make it to Sydney.

One thing is for sure, it's a lot better than the Rescuers. Seriously, Nemo is a lot better.

One thing is for sure, it's a lot better than the Rescuers. Seriously, Nemo is a lot better.

Tangela, the plot of Finding Nemo can be summed up in two words: "Finding Nemo." It's as simple as that.

As I have seen both, and seen both with an open mind Finding Nemo was the far superior film.

The Rescuers has to rank in the bottom five Disney animated films. I did think the Rescuers Down Under was a massive improvement however. Not great, but also nowhere near the bottom of the Disney films.

I totally agree that Down Under was better, and a good movie overall. I also think Rescuers is at the bottom of the list. Come to think of it, it's really one of the few that I really don't like. The only "Classic" I haven't seen is the Black Cauldron.

well, The Lion king will remain as the "number 1 VHS of all time" and the most succesfull disney classic of them all....It's a funny thing some people have some "Issues" with Nemo and don't give it a chance, so many people who made this movie a blockbuster can't be wrong.

You have made an excellent pick as to what not to have watched.

When you are talking about worst Disney animated feature, I do not believe there is anything close to the Black Cauldron. I own it just to complete the collections and watched it for the first time in years recently. Bad story. Bad animation. Bad voicing. It was the complete package.

In fact I have little patience for anything after the Aristocrats and before the Little Mermaid . Not really a good movie in the lot especially when you consider Winnie the Pooh was really made long before the period.

All I will say is The Sun is the UK's best selling newspaper. But it is nowhere near 'the best'.
