Disney/Pixar's Cars races its way to Blu-ray in November

Post by disneyboy20022 »

Sorry If this has already been posted....

I was just looking on the Disney Movie Rewards site and was seeing what DVD's will have points for that Rewards things. Anyway Several Blu Ray discs make the list including Chicken Little and POTC 1 and POTC 2.. which will earn you 125 points per blu ray movie

But the reason I am making the name of this topic Cars on Blu Ray is because one of the Coming Soon DVD's and apparently Blu Ray Discs is and I quote
Cars: Blu-ray Disc Edition

Available: 06/05/2007

125 points
So go to the site of Disney Movie Rewards and look at eligible movies and then look at the side panel of coming soon and its the last one on the list... No Cover art is up yet though...

UPDATE!!!

Our industry sources are also telling us to expect Disney's Cars Blu-ray Disc to street in September.

I would imagine the BD Cars will have a commentary track, being as

A. Chicken Little BD has one when the SD release didn't
B. The UK Press Release for the SD Cars listed a commentary track, indicating one has been recorded.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

So It looks like its been pushed back 3 months... I wondered if it had been pushed back since it was no longer showing an upcoming release on Disney Movie Rewards for June 5th...

That's why it's in the Rumor Mill. It's not confirmed to be true, so for now we have either a June or September release to speculate upon. ;)

Besides, it wouldn't matter to me unless they replaced the word Cars with The Rocketeer. :P :D

Well while I woudn't totally give up On DVDs... I would buy certain Movies on Blu ray disc if I were you....

Chicken Little (if you liked the movie) It has some never before seen on the DVD deleted scenes which I thought was hilarious and also the games on it were better than a lot regular DVD Games. Also it does look very very very bright and more realistic (well as realistic as a Talking chicken... a don knotts Turkey Mayor and a Barbara Streisand obessed chubby pig can get.. )Okay I mean the graphics are better even though I dont have an HDTV and I have the Yard Sale Specia TVl..I can however tell the graphics on my regular tv that they are somewhat better than DVD. I plan on buying an HDTV some day when/if the prices go down

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl - I plan on buy this via amazon and it sequel Dead Man's Chest on Blu Ray... Afterall they are both going to be a Blu ray 2-disc edition on both.. However I do not plan on getting rid of a Pirates of the Caribbean dvds anytime soon

Also Here are some factors to consider before buying Blu Ray Movies( Some are obvious but I will point them out anyway)

Do You have a PS3 or a Blu Ray disc player - If you have a PS3 you might as well embrace the Blu Ray disc feature and get your money's worth...... If You have blu ray disc player well then its not going to play vhs so you might as well buy some..

If you don't have a blu ray disc player or a PS3 then don't buy them UNLESS you plan on buying one someday in the future and are afraid that some of the Disney titles might go OOP right when/if Blu ray catches on...

Also I wouldn't start replacing your dvd collection just yet... Just buy the movies you primarily like would be my opinion or what your budget can afford.... Also I plan on Buying Bridge to Teribithia on DVD and not on Blu ray because I really don't feel the need to buy both and I would prefer DVD over that...

Also if you bought a PS3 you should have gotten a little booklet that says Save $10 by mail if you buy a certain Blu Ray disc movie. Such as I believe disney's 3 you could buy and get 1 $10 rebate back was Chicken Little, Invincible and some other movie. So If your not sure and there is something on that booklet that looks interesting buy it... basicly the most a Blu Ray disc would cost is $35 and if you mail in the rebate you basicly get it for the price of a regular DVD....

I would however wait to go full out on replacing your DVDs with Blu Ray until a more clear winner is found in this Blu Ray VS HD-DVD VS Original DVD which may take quite some time give or take some...

Do you have a HDTV? If you do then maybe, if not then don't bother yet. You may see a little difference on a standard TV, but not enough to worry about in my opinion.

New and better players are starting to come out. Sony will have a player that ships for $599 this summer. Of course it will eventually be cheaper online. The PS3 is also an alternative if you plan to use it for both games and Blu-rays. The PS3 will not upconvert your DVDs to 720/1080, but a stand alone player will. Upconversion will give you better performance (video) on your DVD collection. The 1st Gen Samsung is around $470 online now. One of the cheaper players I've seen (other than the discontinued 20 GB PS3). Its not the best, but it is a decent player if you load the latest firmware on it. With the 2nd Gen Samsung starting to roll out the 1st Gen may get discontinued.

If you decide to go with Blu-ray, have a HDTV, and also want a PS3 go ahead and get one now. Prices want drop on the PS3 for awhile. If you don't plan to game on the PS3 I would wait and see what the second half of the year holds for Blu-ray. We may see cheaper players this fall/holiday season.

Personally I don't see a clear winner in this "war" anytime soon, and I don't see either format replacing DVDs. Blu-ray will cover most of the HD movie releases, but you will miss out on movies by Universal which are HD DVD exclusives. A few movies like Batman Begins, and the soon to be released Matrix Trilogy are HD DVD only for now. Blu-ray releases are being planned for later (Matrix for sure, and I think Batman is as well).

I guess we need a thread title change. Looks like Nov. 6. Don't know how to do links with the PS3 so you'll have to go to hollywoodinhidef for the info. John Lasseter has been intimately involved in this BD release. Intersting sounding BDJ feature having to do with indentifying various types of cars. A deleted scene that I don't recall hearing about. All previous dvd features.

Those blue/silver bent bars are probably just part of the slipcover as Pirates on Blu Ray has the same blu/silver bars on its slipcover which having a Slip Cover on Blu Ray disc of Cars will make Escapay Jump For Joy as He Loves the Movie Cars and we all know how he loves Slipcovers very deep down... perhaps in his Pinky Toe:P

I'm pretty sure every Disney BD has that on all inserts. At least one other studio has their own unique BD artwork also. You would think the smaller blue case would be enough to distinguish from dvd but some studio suits think otherwise apparently.

The cover is the most important thing. The disc is just something to fill the case. That's what I learned here :D

Don't forget standard DVD

Post by David S. »

According to the info posted on the home page here, there WON'T be a 2 disc Cars on standard DVD to correspond with the Blu Ray, only Blu Ray, leaving Cars still the first Pixar film without a 2 disc set on standard DVD.

As someone very happy with standard DVD, I find this disapointing and seems to sadly be another sign of Disney "abandoning" standard DVD as was discussed in another thread on these boards - where to get the best version of a film in terms of extras with all the "bells and whistles" you would have to invest in a new player that I don't expect would dramatically improve the picture quality on my modest equipment in the same way that DVD was a HUGE improvement over VHS tapes.

I've always been more into titles (software) than hardware anyway. Hardware to me is just something I need in order to watch the movies. I'm more a Disney film fan than a technical perfectionist.

So I'd rather put a HUGE dent on my standard DVD and CD wishlists and get 20 or 30 DVD titles than run out right now to buy a player that may not even win the "format war" anyway...

Hopefully they'll eventually recant and give Cars the 2 disc STANDARD DVD it deserves.

I hope this isn't a sign that when they get around to re-releasing Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia, that those will be absent from standard DVD and/or issued in substantially inferior versions to the Blu Ray, or, in the case of Snow White and Fantasia, inferior to the initial out of print DVD releases.

On the plus side, information to date on the Cars release doesn't indicate much will be added that could be added on a normal DVD.

Here's how High-DefDigest lists the new HD exclusive content:
HD Exclusive Content:
• Bonus Deleted Scene: "Traffic"
• "Car Finder" interactive BD-Java feature allowing users to search for the more than 200 different cars featured in the film
It also lists "commentary tracks" under disc features, but seems to be under the impresson these were on the normal DVD. The original report of the BD on the High-DefDigest below makes no mention of the commentaries or the Cars release still being 2 discs:
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/sh ... vember/785

So all the Press Release for the release has singled out as new is 1 Deleted scene and a BD-Java game/application (and maybe a commentary or two if they were mentioned on the press release). I'm not saying definitively that the Blu-Ray release won't have new "making of" content, but so far, if it does, it's not been announced.

If you're not bothered about the High Definition format (which is fair enough, because to get full benefit you need to invest in audio/visual equipment as well as the discs and players), from what we know now it doesn't seem like you'll be missing much.
