Why can't I send private messages?
I have only sent two messages. One was a test message that said, "Testing." It was sent to myself. The other was my asking an FAQ to another member. Nothing offensive was written in it.
How did these messages earn banning from PMs altogether?

Everyone who joined before June 2006 will still have PM abilities. Everyone after June 2006 don't have PM abilities.Big Disney Fan wrote:Then who can PM privileges?Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote:Sorry to tell you, but new members aren't able to have PM privileges.

Yeah dont you just feel so alone not being able to PM anyone? lol well I don't really mind but sometimes people will send me a PM and I don't know how to respond cause a lot of people don't really check their e-mail when I try and send it there.

In another thread, I've posed the idea that I'd be willing to restore PM access for anyone willing to make a tiny donation (say, $3-$5) through Amazon's Honor System. Not only would that help to cover the bandwidth consumed by PMs, but it would make people accountable for using it responsibly. Not only has no one taken me up on the offer, but no one's even responded to the post. I guess the offer still stands, however, with the understanding that only people who make the donation (and all those members who registered prior to June '06) will be able to reply to any PMs received.
"Fifteen years from now, when people are talking about 3-D, they will talk about the business before 'Monsters vs. Aliens' and the business after 'Monsters vs. Aliens.' It's the line in the sand." - Greg Foster, IMAX chairman and president
I think I would pay 3-5 bucks for PM's but I dont even have a credit card so I can't purchase or make a donation, unless I send a money order somewhere lol.

For the time being, you know you can always e-mail me.Beastboyravenz wrote:Yeah it sucks we can't pm eachother. I mean haven't we proved that we can be trusted? I know for a fact that I will never abuse anybody or anything here or in reality. Hopefully Luke will let us have pm privileges someday.

That's hot.

I may be wrong - if I am, I apologize.
From what I've heard, you have to publicly get the user's attention, for example, by posting "ATTN: <user>", etc, or send them an email.
If they have hidden their email or if they don't feel confortable posting it publicly, then perhaps use instant messaging etc. For example, you can download AIM for free.
If you DO decide to post your email, post it like this: user at domain dot com.
This usually prevents spambots from harvesting it.

So does this offer still stand Luke? And does it just apply to using PMs? I don't care that much for PMs, but it would be cool if we were allowed to have a slightly bigger avatar or signature pics. I recently donated $4 to the Honor System about a week ago (I didn't donate with that intention, I just did it to support the site). Let me know your thoughts.Luke wrote:In another thread, I've posed the idea that I'd be willing to restore PM access for anyone willing to make a tiny donation (say, $3-$5) through Amazon's Honor System. Thanks for the donation. I've given you PM privileges, even if that wasn't your intention. You may have to sign out and sign back in to get them to work.Anthony wrote: I recently donated $4 to the Honor System about a week ago (I didn't donate with that intention, I just did it to support the site). As for other perks like a bigger avatar, well, I'd have to look into making that work based on user levels and such. Things like (slightly) bigger signature images might work too, but I'd have to think about it. The avatar/signature limits are in place to make this as user-friendly a forum as possible, but there's some room to expand for those who actually care about the costs of running the site and keeping it running.
