It is under the knife for me...................

Post by dvdjunkie »

Just to update all of you. I am still restricted to no shoes, I have been off work since October 7th with Diabetic Ulcers on the bottom of both feet. My left one seemed to heal up rather well, but the right one is taking its own sweet time. Then last night, the left one blew a gasket, and when I went to the doctor today, he said that it is definitely time for plan B. I am going to have surgery on both feet on January 30th. The doctor will cut open each foot around the ball, and shave the enlarged bone down, and the sew me back up. I go into the Surgery Center here in Wichita at 10 a.m. and they say I will be home by 2 pm that afternoon. The recuperating process will take about four to six weeks, but then I will be like brand new and can get back to work at last.

Say a little prayer for my wife, Beverly, I think I am going to be her biggest baby at home for a couple of days afterwards.

Will let you know how it goes.

All the best with the surgery.

Any excuse for me to stay off my feet, but I'm sure it is frustrating to be made to stay off them

Good luck, anyways!

That must be tough, I cant imagine not being able to wear shoes and going through that kind of pain.

I hope the Surgery goes well and you and your wife will be in my prayers.

Good luck with your surgery Bill. Having never gone under the knife, I would kinda freak out. You and you're family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone. I will be away from the forums for about three days at the most.

And I really want you to pray for my wife, Beverly. She is the one that will be taking care of me when I get home, and being the big baby I am, I will be taking advantage of it, until she catches on and says "Get it yourself!!!"

UPDATE..............UPDATE...........................UPDATE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,UPDATE

Well I am six days and counting until the surgery. My doctor has gotten me pretty well prepared for what is going to happen. Three days after the surgery, on Friday morning, I will be in his office for a change of dressing and check on the sutures, and then it will be up to my wife to change the dressings each day for the next week. On the 14th day after surgery I will have the stitches removed, and be placed in soft hospital shoes for one week, and during that time I will have new inserts custom made for my shoes and then into my shoes for three weeks before I can go back to work. We are now looking at about the 10th of March for a go back to work date.

Now I am getting excited, because I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

You people are the best. Thanks for the well wishes. I will be away from the forums from January 30 until probably February 2 or 3, depending on my recuperative powers. Doctor says three days before I will feel like getting up at all, so we will see.

Thanks again. I really do appreciate all of you.

Good Luck on your foot surgery!

My mom had a callus on the bottom of her foot for years from a botched bunion surgery, and had a surgery last July to remove part of the bone above the callus. It has healed up and she can walk without pain now...

I would think your surgery will be similar (although probably a different bone...)

Our prayers are with you and your wife!

On a side note, you might check with your doctor about a Wound Care Center treatment. My mother's foot wasn't healing after the surgery, so they put a silver cloth mesh on it, along with a salve that I can't recall the name of (possibly Macropro,) and she healed like magic. She is also diabetic.
