The Magical World of Winnie the Pooh

Post by Loomis »

I was just wanting to know if anybody had purchsed this in the UK (where I believe it came out a few months ago).
It is coming out here on 7th May, and being the Pooh fanatic that I am, will look into purchasing it.
But I needed a little more info before I invest in it.
I undertsand that it consists of several episodes of the TV series - but is it any good? Does it appeal to a broad age range (as the other Pooh features do) or does it appeal to the younger viewers (the subtitle 'Adventures in Sharing and Caring' seem to indicate this to me).
If anybody had purchased or watched this DVD, I would really appreciate hearing your thoughts on it.
Cheers!

I have this - it's nothing special. It only runs for 58 mins and contains 5 shorts. They seem to be taken from the TV series, but I'm not much of a Pooh fan, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

"Rabbit Marks The Spot"
"Friend, In Deed"
"The Piglet Who Would Be King" (2 parts)
"Donkey For A Day"

Perhaps you could look up the titles in an Episode Guide to confirm if they are from the TV series or not?

Found an episode guide listing (yes they are from The New Adventures Of Winne The Pooh)

As for content, well I've only seen it once and then was only half watching most of it. I found it to be very poor - about the same level as the "FrankenPooh and Spookable Pooh" disc if you have seen that. The TV series was never really shown in the UK. If you are familar with the TV series, then that's your best idea of what the content will be like.

Thanks for all the info, mate. Knew I could count on you, 2099 :)

I'm still in two minds as to whether I will purchase, but it is quite cheap ($22.50 AUS - so really cheap for all you US & UK buyers!), and perhaps worth an investigation from the video store at the very least.

Thanks again...

The UK seems to have VOL 3 scheduled, but no vol 2!

Release 1st September 2003.

No volume 2 :)
Sounds odd, but for some reason doesn't surprise me.
My Volume 1 should arrive any day now...

Isn't Volume 2 available on VHS in the UK though? I was looking at the UK Disney site and say a reference to a volume 2 (had a red cover). Maybe the Vol 3 is for the VHS?
Maybe Disney have gone mad?
Still, more Pooh (even out of order Pooh) is a good thing!

The Magical World Of Winnie the Pooh

Post by 2099net »

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. The Seasons of Giving DVD has a trailer for the first two volumes of The Magical World of Winnie the Pooh on it. So it looks like Disney will release a TV series over in America after all, as these are episodes from The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - but no multi-disc set.

Now we just need to see if Vol 2 mysteriously disappears when it's due to be released like it has in the UK and Australia. :)

It's funny because the trailer for volumes 1 & 2 was on the two recently released volumes of Pooh here...and there is no sign of 2 yet....

Hopefully it will surface somewhere.

Magical World of Winnie the Pooh

Post by Prince Adam »

I just read the specs for the Sweetheart Stories DVD. It has a sneak peek for the Magical World of Winnie the Pooh. I hope R1 gets these volumes. I just hope the episodes are in chronological order, and are all included.

The only thing wrong is that they've sort of re-named the series. Why not just call the DVD's the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, since that's what's on them.

It's just like calling The Little Mermaid TV show videos Ariel's Songs and Stories or Ariel's Undersea Adventures. The show is called The Little Mermaid!

I just got the "Sweetheart Stories" DVD yesterday. The advertisement for "The Magical World of Winnie the Pooh" makes it sound like various episodes from the series, packaged to fit the theme of each volume, so they probably won't be in order. The comercial also shows a computer animated segment with all the characters in owls tree house. This could be a DVD game, but it looked more like a new opening credits. The add also claims it has "New Songs," and they show what looks like card board cut outs of the characters popping up at Pooh's birthday party. The songs are probably special features. The first two volumes are "It's Playtime withPooh" and "A Great Day of Discovery." Since the add was on a R1 DVD, I assume that it's comeing out in R1. I think Disney has renamed the series to sell more of it. Many people own the VHS volumes and will be suckered into buying the DVD's thinking it's something new.

That's too bad. I didn't want anything with a kiddie theme.

It will be interesting to see if the US gets the elusive Volume 2 of this series "Little Things Mean a Lot".

It was advertised, and is available, on VHS only here. Meanwhile we have Volumes 1, 3 and the subsequent volumes all out on DVD. :?
Go figure.

The US has a bunch of Pooh stuff we don't have too, including Seasons of Giving (which I guess makes sense, because we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here...).

Ok, just so we can narrow it down, here are the ones released here:

Magical World Of Winnie The Pooh, The - All For One, One For All (V1)

Magical World Of Winnie The Pooh - It's Playtime With Pooh (V3)

Magical World Of Winnie The Pooh - A Great Day Of Discovery (V4)

Another one we (and when i say we I mean Australia/Uk/Europe) have is Poohs Grand Adventure - The Search For Christopher Robin, but that is not part of the series.

Also, our OFLC (ratings board has approved):
THE MAGICAL WORLD OF WINNIE THE POOH: VOLUME 5 - FRIENDS FOREVER - GOOD-BYE MR. POOH/ WHERE, OH WHERE HAS MY PIGLET GONE?/ FISH OUT OF WATER/ POOH SKIES/ DISNEY'S SONGBOOK - HEFFALUMPS AND WOOZLES

THE MAGICAL WORLD OF WINNIE THE POOH: VOLUME 6

but only on VHS at this stage...

Hope this give us some clue as to what is coming...

Is Magical World of Winnie the Pooh?
Disney DVD worth getting?
I love to watch Winnie the Pooh but don't know if it's really good to buy.
I just need some feedback.

I'm probably the last person who should be answering this, as I am completely biased in favour of all things Pooh.

While I wish Disney would release The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in more complete season sets, these are pretty good alternatives. There is about an hour to 72 minutes worth of stuff on each DVD. The extras are not much to speak of, but the episodes ARE a lot of fun, very much in true WTP fashion (more like the original shorts that comprise Many Adventures ).

The 3D pop-up stuff in between each episode is a little odd (but educational! Did you know that if you share, everybody is happy?), and designed more for the little ones. Even so, these do not laST VERY LONG.

I highly recommend them, but the only trouble is there are so many coming out, even hardcore fans like myself are having trouble keeping up.
