YOUR Disney DVD Collection: The One That Started It All?

Post by DisneyFreak5282 »

Just out of curiosity, what Disney DVD was "The One That Started it All" for your collection?

Ironically enough, the one that started my collection was the one that started ALL Disney movies!

I started my collection with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition in August, 2005.

The reason I even started my Disney collection was because I had been reintroduced to Disney when I went to Disney World in July, 2005, and I loved it (again), for the first time since I was little (I went in April, 2004, but that didn't have much effect on me).

Then a month later, my brother needed to go to GameStop to get a gift card for his friend, and there was the DVD. Staring at me with its shiny "Platinum Edition" banner, and its $16.99 price tag. All inserts. Flawless discs. I had to get it. So....

I did!

Then came (in order):
Bambi - Sept. 2005
Beauty and the Beast - Oct. 2005
Cinderella - Oct. 2005
Aladdin - Oct. 2005
The Lion King - Oct. 2005
Sleeping Beauty - Nov. 2005
The Lion King 2: Special Edition - Nov. 2005
Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas - Dec. 2005
Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas - Jan. 2006 ( Couldn't help myself, it was on sale for $12.99!)
Atlantis II - Jan. 2006
Kronk's New Groove - Apr. 2006
Lady and the Tramp(Platinum) - Jun. 2006
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (SE) - Jul. 2006 (found it new for $14.99!)
Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World (SE) - Aug. 2006
The Little Mermaid (Platinum) - Oct. 2006
The Fox and the Hound (Gold) - Oct. 2006
Cars (Widescreen) - Nov. 2006
Chicken Little - Nov. 2006
Lady and the Tramp (Limited Issue) - Nov. 2006
101 Dalmatians (Animated) [Limited Issue] - Dec. 2006

I got NEMO and THE INCREDIBLES before the Disney trip in 2005, but they weren't really the START of my collection!

What about you guys? (You don't have to post your entire collection and stuff like I did)

In my case, the Bambi PE.

I first started seeing publicity for it in late 2004 and, it being my favourite Disney film, I knew I had to have it. I actually held off getting it until early 2006, however, having waited for a fair price reduction to come along. I am something of a cheapskate, after all.

The Lion King Platinum Edition in early 2004. Then I started to get more and more into the Disney movies and, well, now I am just a Disney FREAK!

First Disney DVD was Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. But thats only because my mom had bought it back in 01' cause she likes it a lot(and im so glad she did!) its basically my DVD aswell though, so its in my Disney DVD section.

The Second of Disney DVD was Lilo and Stitch(saw it on tv, liked it a lot so I bought it)

The first ones in the "offical" start of collecting Disney DVD's was Aladdin and Alice and Wonderland. And its beeen exactly a year since I started collecting in November of 05'.

I had most of the vhs's when I was little. There gone now. and I have no idea where they went after we handed down to my younger cuzzins.

Alice in Wonderland: Gold Classic Collection was my first, too. I bought it immediately after it came out in July 2000. How many people here are actually surprised? ;)

My first two-disc set was Tarzan: Collector's Edition which I bought around August of 2000, I believe.

First one on DVD was the R2 single disc of A Bug's Life, which was probably about my second or third DVD. First Disney movie bought was Beauty and the Beast on VHS, quickly followed by Cinderella and Fantasia before they went back to the vault. Don't have any of those original purchases anymore, all replaced by bigger and better DVD's.

Either:

The Lion King

OR

Lilo & Stitch

I actually have no idea which I had first, but it is either one of those two. I think. :D

Well my mom and I bought Beauty and the Beast when it first came out followed by Aladdin but it was Oliver and Company that started my whirlwind of buying Disney DVDs.

Lady and the Tramp PE in March of this year. I didn't buy it, though, it was a gift for my birthday. And it sparked my love of Disney. Now, I just can't get enough!!!!!!!

My collection is still very-very small. I bought Aladdin PE, my first, somewhere in August (yes, of this year!). It was followed by Mulan, then TLM the day of the release. :)

My best friend also gave me Monsters Inc. as a birthday gift in I-don't-know-what-year! ;)

According to this 2005 thread my first Disney DVD was Swiss Family Robinson.

And I guess I can confirm it, as I said it again in this 2006 thread...but oddly, I question whether it was Swiss Family Robinson or Tuck Everlasting.

But now, I simply checked the receipts, and indeed, Swiss Family Robinson was my first Disney DVD, back on June 18, 2002. According to receipts, that was followed by Pirates of the Caribbean on December 29, 2003, and Freaky Friday not soon after (I'm sure of it, though I don't have its receipt), before finally getting Tuck Everlasting on February 13, 2004.

I likely still have all the receipts, but from memory, I think the collection went like this:

2002:
Swiss Family Robinson: Vault Disney

2003:
Pirates of the Caribbean: Collector's Edition
Freaky Friday (2003)

2004:
Tuck Everlasting
Bedknobs and Broomsticks: 30th Anniversary Edition
Song of the South (hehe)
The Parent Trap: Vault Disney
Walt Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald, Volume One
The Watcher in the Woods
Something Wicked This Way Comes
The Rocketeer
Aladdin: Platinum Edition

2005 and 2006 have had many purchases, and helped to really build my collection.

:D

I also have Freaky Friday, The Lizzie McGuire Movie Pirates of the Carribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Holes, but forgot to add them. Whoops! (I got them all in 2003). My brother got The Lion King 1 1/2 in 2004.

The first one I bought (Not really the one that started my Disney obsession...that was caused by my first trip to Disney World around 2 years ago) was Bambi: Platinum Edition around a week or two after it came out (or sometime in March of 2005). Now that I think about it, there was no real special reason for having Bambi be my first DAC on DVD. It was just there, and at the time, I couldn't remember Bambi....at all. So I picked it up. But like 30 minutes later, I scurried over to BestBuy and picked up The Aristocats and Robin Hood (GC's) simultaniously. And a couple of months later, I bought Sleeping Beauty SE. Then many more months later, I bought The Lion King: PE (August 2005). Then on Feburary 28th of this year, I bought Lady and the Tramp: PE. And after that, it's history. I have honestly lost track of all the Disney DVD's I have bought since this summer.

As far as Disney DVD's in general, I think my first one (s) were either Finding Nemo/Monster's INC. (bought them both at the same time at Costco) or Pirates of the Caribbean (1).

and YAY FOR DISNEY FREAKS!!!
