Alright, I have a couple of somewhat common but also random questions about disney animation. These all are from the feature films and may involve but are not limited to, plot, character design, character problems, and most of all animation.
Robin Hood:
This film came out in the 70s during a time when alot of the feature films reused alot of the same animation. Whether it was from the titled film or modeled after another it was certainly reused more than enough. My question is why? I figure it was to save on cost, but still there must be some more factors than that. Robin Hood for example reused alot of the same animation with the smaller bunnies. They also reused some animation from The Aristocats and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, during the song about "king john the phony king of england." How exactly do they reuse animation from another film. Do they just model it after it, or do they actually go back and somehow change the drawing to move like it did in the previously mentioned films.
Also when you look at the films particularly in the gold classic collection that came out in the 70s and 80s, you can see alot of the lines that were obviously used as a guide to help draw the characters within the movie. Is this because these movies never undergoed a restoration like the beloved platinum editions, or is it just a reflection of the way animation was during the time.
What was the last movie made with Technicolor? I assume that once computers took a major role in feature lenght animation, they just painted using the computers, but still Im not sure.
Last Question for now, why in the package films from like Saludos to The adventures of Ichabod and Mr toad and I believe all the films of the 50s, there was some mention about RKO at the begininng, whereas films made later had mention of Buena Vista. I believe I remember seeing Buena Vista before RKO in some films, if so why the change in titles and then going back to Buena? Also with the mention of Silver Screen ?????? what exactly was that, I know they appeared in The Black Cauldron through I think The Rescuers down under ,a year before Beauty and the Beast came out, but why when Beauty and the Beast came out there was no mention of this Silver Screen ??????? thing.
I know its alot and I apoligize for the lenght, Ive just been wondering these since Ive been watching the movies in their theatrical released order. Any help would be appreciated.

Why underestimate the importance of cost-cutting? Besides, I guess there wasn't really much creativity and "pioneering spirit" left by then.the-reason wrote:This film came out in the 70s during a time when alot of the feature films reused alot of the same animation. RKO distributed Disney's movies at the time - later Disney set up his own distribution company, Buena Vista.the-reason wrote:Last Question for now, why in the package films from like Saludos to The adventures of Ichabod and Mr toad and I believe all the films of the 50s, there was some mention about RKO at the begininng, whereas films made later had mention of Buena Vista. As far as I understand, Silver Screen Partners was a "scheme" to help finance a few of Disney's titles during the 80s-early 90s.

Re: Common and random animation questions
It's a term called "rotoscoping" in which they take the filmed footage, and simply trace over it again. In the Fleischer animated film, Gulliver's Travels, the artists taped a live-action actor as Gulliver, and simply rotoscoped it with the Lilliputians. Well-known films like Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan had extensive live-action footage to rely on, though it wasn't necessarily rotoscoped.the-reason wrote: They also reused some animation from The Aristocats and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, during the song about "king john the phony king of england." Anyways, a few caps I was able to make of rotoscoping from " (Prince John) The Phony King of England", as well as one final one from the end of the film. I don't have The Jungle Book, so I couldn't include a cap from there that was repeated in Robin Hood.
The first cap, a shot from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is zoomed out and rotoscoped. And is it just me, but does the color quality for Robin Hood look better than Snow White?

The second and third cap, from The Aristocats, again more rotoscoping. (I didn't notice that square bit when I made the cap, and it was too late to re-cap it, so it's still there)

The final cap, from Cinderella, zooms in slightly for Robin Hood, and loses a bit of the sharpness and detail that was present in Cinderella.

Oh, I just want to take a moment to point something out. THe whole Silverscreen Partners thing...
In the old Beauty and the Beast video, at the beginning of the film, it says"Walt Disney Pictures presents (fade out) in association with Silver Screen Partners II".
In the platinum edition, in neither of the three versions does Silver Screen Partners show up....so much for the "theatrical release".....

Those credits change over time based on their "relevance", it seems - I'd say it's basically the same thing as with the RKO and BV "credits". But, agreed, it's not quite a truthful "documentation" of the theatrical release.Marce82 wrote:Oh, I just want to take a moment to point something out. THe whole Silverscreen Partners thing...
