Sleeping Beauty NOT Out-of-Print??? Check this out...

Post by sabertoothcat23 »

So, I was browsing amazon.com, and I discovered this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... /ref=nosim .
Everyone and their dog knows that the Sleeping Beauty 2-Disc Special Edition DVD from September 2003 has long been discontinued and on the out-of-print list since January of 2004. So why is amazon selling this title as if it wasn't out of print? What's going on? Do they have just extra copies lying around, and they are quietly selling it new???

Escapay had posted about this in the "What OOP Disney DVDs are you seeking" fourm. Sleeping Beauty is indeed OOP, but I guess Amazon had found a new stock of SB DVDs. And the good news is, it's only $21! So if you missed out the first time around, be sure to get this ASAP! Because who knows how long this will be around for...

Thank you SOOOO much! I already have this, but a friend of mine missed out and she wanted it so bad she almost paid $50 for it on ebay. This is going to make her so happy on Christmas morning!

Not to be a huge downer, but, I doubt they actually have any. Amazon has done this before with out of print titles. Eventually your order will just get cancelled. The "ships in 1 to 2 weeks" line is a good sign of this happening.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you, So It Goes. I tried ordering 2 CD's off of Amazon once that said Ships in 1-2 Weeks and I never, ever got either order. But then, they never charged my account either.

I eventually bit the bullet for Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition and purchased it on eBay for $40. More than I wanted to pay, but I'm glad to have it in my collection, just incase something happens and the Platinum Edition never sees the light of day.

I just visited Amazon and they no longer have any more Sleeping Beauty DVDs, however, the marketplace prices start at $29.99.

I know that the chances of Amazon actually having Sleeping Beauty are not very likely. :( This was only confirmed by the "will ship in 1 - 2 weeks" message when I ordered it...Oh well, I will hold out hope for a little longer. I can't just give up too soon (on the very big what if? factor). Wish me luck :thumb:

Well, after almost a month of waiting, amazon finally shipped "Meet Me in St. Louis" which I ordered with "Sleeping Beauty." I got an e-mail telling me they could not locate my item and were contacting the destributor to order more. Maybe Disney has a stash of unsold DVDs and would possibly give one to amazon? It's happened before where online stores suddenly have a small stock of "Snow White" 4 years after its release.

Question: Isn't there a part of Amazon.com where it is like ebay or ebay store where it is not amazon selling it but a person that has bought it and now is selling it? That would be my guess.

Compare this one (Cinderella) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... /ref=nosim

To the one about Sleeping Beauty http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... /ref=nosim

Yes, you can do that because the DVD is out of print (they no longer produce new copies), and people are selling their copies. But watch out! Some(and most) may be bootlegs.

It never even crossed my mind that it would be bootleg, except on ebay when it was from a different country.

Even though it may be from the U.S., it can still be bootleg. There are DVD encrypters (or encoders, whatev. they're called), that can take the copyright off of DVDs, and people burn copies, and try to sell them. If you buy from Amazon, make sure they mention the authentic Buena Vista stamp on it. If not it *may* be fake.

ok, thanks. If I ever do buy a dvd from amazon, I'll make sure it has the authentic buena vista stamp on it. Thanks again.

I brought some of the SB too from Amazon when they had some in stock. It said they would be delived on Dec. 5, but now they said there would be a delay, and now it's Feb. 14!! I can wait, just as long as they get here of course :)
