The UK Question and answer thread.

Post by ichabod »

OK, we started the UK announcement thread so that all UK announcements could be kept together rather than having a million threads with 1 reply to them each.

Perhaps it would be a smart idea to have one thread for everyone to ask questions in relating to UK DVD releases, or cinema releases so that they are all kept in one place for easy reference and don't clutter the place up.

So all questions, in here!

Or else!

Actually I've been thinking we should start a thread like this for a while, so if somebody else has the same question they'll know a likely place to find it and what better time than when we have an inquisitive new member! ;)

So ask away! :p

What's the difference (except for price) between these 2?:
http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asda/99375.product
http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asd ... 17.product

and these 2:
http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asda/99203.product
http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/asd ... 32.product

they are the same as I can see but why would one be higher priced than the other?

I've never seen a tin but from what i've heard DO NOT buy the Region 2 tins they are huge and can't stand up but if you really want the tins there are some sites that have them

Here's a question for any R2 owners of Dead Man's Chest.

At 1 hour 16 minutes and 59 seconds during the scene on the dock, just as Captain Jack peeks over the side of the compass, my DVD went pixelly. I swapped it for another copy and that it affected in exactly the same way and at the same place.

So it looks as if this is a print run issue, rather than damage to the DVD.

But is it all copies or just a few? Anybody care to check theirs?

Ah. You've spotted the hidden clue. Yes, the "pixelly" screen is intentional. It hints at the resolution in Worlds End you see

Spoiler*
Captain Jack is really in an enhanced virtual reality game like the Matrix or that seen in Total Recall. This explains the incoherent storyline and dull repeative nature of many of the runarounds or set peices, and the fact that each film (level) is a dull quest for a stupid mystical object (hey, at least you don't have to save the princess!). You name a computer game (except Silent Hill 2) which has a coherent story! It will be revealed that Captain Jack is, in "reality" a drunken old tramp who is beta testing the new virtual reality headset - they get old tramps in because there is still doubts about how safe the equipment is, becuase it is wired directly into the player's brain!

At the start of World's End, there will be a Super Mario pling-plong sound and the words "1 Life Lost. Player 1 Ready?" will appear on the screen before Captain Jack is ressurected.

yes, I quote Ichabod from page 17 of the UK Annoucement Thread:
ichabod wrote:Now don't ask when, because I don't know. But...

There will be double packs for both Peter Pan / Return to Neverland and The Fox and the Hound / Fath 2.

Probably sometime early in 2007.

Also Robin Hood: Special Edition and Leroy and Stitch will also be coming early next year.

Uhhh...guys. I have now owned Mulan Region 2 for over a year. It's said to be the best release as it has the best transfer (along with Region 4) and the DTS track. However, I have just come to know that the Region 2 is cut ( Why are a barrage of UK DVDs cut? I'm getting sick). Apparently 2 seconds of Shan-Yu headbutting Shang have been removed by the BBFC.

Is this a substantial part of the film, and do I really need to worry that I'm missing on those 2 seconds? Thanks. :)

I dunno. Did you miss it? Did you notice something was missing? If not then I would say don't worry.

The BBFC (because of the British law) will not allow violence that may be copied by a child easily on "U" movies ("U" stands for "Universal" and there are no age restrictions). Depending on the context of the violence, it may be asked to be removed from "PG", "12" and even in some cases "15" certificate movies.

This is a new ruling though. Until recently, easily copied violence wasn't allowed on anything below a "15" and even then some "15" movies were edited (The Matrix was edited to remove headbutts).

The change in the policy explains why two of the new Ultimate Bond DVDs are released "uncut" for the first time ever, and how the DareDevil movie was edited for the cinema, but released uncut by the time it got to DVD.

In theory I agree with the "U" ruling. After all, it would be easy for a young child of 4 or 5 to copy something that they have seen on a DVD, and head butt a child in the playground, and potentially cause a major injury. However, it seems a bit pointless when our TV has no such restrictions (and if I remember correctly, shows like Grange Hill and Byker Grove used to include head butts).

I must confess since I bought Goldeneye Ultimate Edition my 3 year old daughter simply hasn't stopped headbutting me!

BBFC are dreadful. I accept that no headbutts should be allowed in a "U" certificated film but based on experiences with my own children they are more likely to copy things they hear. I find the BBFC's attitude a bit hypocritical especially when they award a "U" to E.T in which a very young Drew Barrymore yells the immortal words 'penis breath'!!!

To be honest, given the state of most people's kids nowadays I'd be far happier to see my youngest daughter headbutting her peers than using such awful obscenities!!!

Will we ever get to see a region 2 re-release of Robin Hood or was it just an exclusive for Region 1 only?
