Robin Hood DVD Preview:Screen Shots,Scans & Trailers

Hey guys so here are the screen shots and scans from the Robin Hood dvd

No major news coming from this single "Most Wanted Edition"dvd, a few new trailers (nothing big) and the bonus features are very lite.

The transfer looks like the one we got for The Fox and The Hound last month.

If you want me to rip any of the trailers just let me know.

And yes the movie as you can see below is in 16:9

Sounds great. Can't wait to see what the disc art looks like. I probably will not buy the dvd as I never really liked Robin Hood.

My question is this (and I haven't seen any screencaps yet): is the new edition in widescreen or is it in fullscreen again? Obviously the screencaps will tell, but if you happen to see this before you put up any screencaps, I will look forward to your response...

I could be wrong, but I believe this movie's original aspect ratio was in fullscreen.

Thanks for all the great screen caps. You are so lucky, you always get these movies in advance. I am excited to pick up this movie, I don't own it yet so the Most Wanted Edition looks good to me. It's been a while since I have seen Robin Hood so I am looking forward to adding it to my collection and watching it in the near future!

Aw shucks! I was hoping (but not expecting) to get a better transfer than that! Oh well. I figured this movie would be getting FatH type treatment anyway. Lucky for Disney, I'll still be buying this disc because I never bought the Gold Collection version.

So this is a matted version of the movie? What is the point of buying a matted version if I have the Gold Classic Collection? I don't get it?

You've got to understand that this movie shouldn't ever look as clean
as The Lion King or Sleeping Beauty. Robin Hood was made with the
xerox style of animation. It should look dirty. Here is why--
let me explain xerox animation as I understand it.

1) The animator draws the character on a piece of paper--this is one
of those somewhat rough looking sketches--it isn't cleaned up.

2) They take that piece of paper to the copy machine and copy it onto a
cell (a clean piece of plastic--like a transparancy if you are old enough to
remember)

3) They take the cell to the paint department and they paint the
back of the cell.

4) They take that cell and they take a picture of it. The end result is
a very dirty look because you can still see all the mess from the sketch.

Note: it is possible the shades of color need adjusted to restore
the picture but it wouldn't impact the dirty look of the animation.
It is supposed to look that way!

I agree, the disc art for Robin Hood looks terrible, just as it did on The Fox and the Hound. It can't be that hard, or cost that much more money, to make a decent looking disc.

I wonder how many times we are going to have to go round and round about this.
I was once quite confused about this myself but Luke cleared it up for me a couple of years ago.
Almost every Disney film was made in "fullscreen"
and matted for theatrical release. Let me give you a list of some titles this applies to that we have received in widescreen on DVD.

1) The Shaggy Dog
2) The Absent-Minded Professor
3) The Parent Trap
4) Polyanna
5) Summer Magic

and the list goes on

When you buy the widescreen version you can see the
way it looked in the movie theatre upon original release.
When you watch the fullscreen version on a widescreen
tv you are seeing bars on the sides that shouldn't be there
because the theatrical release was wider than 1.33:1.
The matting restores the theatrical ratio (most important)
and makes the picture fit properly on a widescreen tv
(less important in principle). I am hoping I am not confusing
things more than clarifying them. The point is, I am going to
run out and buy this immediately because it restored the original theatrical ratio of the film. The only thing I really find bothersome
about this is that it makes the mystery concerning The Fox and
the Hound all the more confusing...

I guess I'm the oddball that kinda likes the sketchy animation. I like something different every now and then.
