Actor Neil Patrick Harris says he’s gay.

Post by MadonnasManOne »

I didn't see this one coming. I wonder who is next? My bet is on Ricky Martin!

From MSNBC.com:

Former ‘Doogie Howser,’ star, 33, tells People he wants to quell rumors

Updated: 11:24 p.m. CT Nov 3, 2006

LOS ANGELES - Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.

“(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest,” Harris tells People magazine’s Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent “speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.”

Harris stars on the CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother.” He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series “Doogie Howser, M.D.”

Wow! That was a suprise, not so much as T.R Knight though because I watch Greys Anatomy more and I am more attached to it, but it was still a suprise considering his character is so straight, if not that, then a womanizer!
I agree on Ricky Martin being next btw

Harris plays the giant forehead on How I met your Mother, right?

This was a mild surprise for me. Good to know he's comfortable with himself.

Like the two replies prior to mine, this is something of a surprise. But, good for him. I'm glad he's happy.

I don't know why I don't feel suprised at all. But I am glad for him that he is happy, proud, and content. I always loved him on Doogie Howser :)

Given the fact that he was visiting the parks with his boyfriend the first week I was back in WDW this summer, it's no surprise to me.

Still, good for him.

This doesn't really come as a surprise to me, I'm not really sure why? Maybe because of his guest appearance on "Will and Grace" a few years back. I dunno. Good for him though!!

Does anyone really care what a star's sexual preference is? I think that it is their personal life and we should not give a big hoot about it. Can't they live their lives without being under the microscope all the time?

This has nothing to do with being under a microscope. When the person reveals their sexuality, it is not US putting them under the microscope. I don't really care, one way or the other. I am just reporting what I've read. Plus, it seems that everyone here is wishing him the best. No harm done.

No need to be upset by this.

Wow. For once I am surprised about this kind of thing. I guess that’s because I have seen him as of late as the breast obsessed Barney on HIMYM. Well anyway great for him! :)

For some, it inspires them to be true to who they are when someone who is well known makes it public. Rather then just come out to his family (which he likely did before), he has come out to the world. Its a scary thing. But his story may give strength to others to stop lieing and be proud of who they are.

Its only under the microscope, if its YOUR microscope. I really don't care who is gay and who isn't. Its just nice to see someone able to be comfortable about it and brave enough to face the world and say "This is me!"

I guess what I am trying to say......is......why is it such a big news story. If anyone here came out of the closet, no one would care. I just thnk that is pretty sad that our news media has nothing better to do than to cover stories about someone's sexual preference.

Why not do some 'good news 'reporting. Oh.....that's right.....Good News doesn't sell newspapers or get TV ratings.

Such a sad world we live in today.

Between war, sex scandals, and school shootings...coming out of the closet, deffinetly good news. Least in my opinion. Maybe they covered his story because they were so sick of all the bad news too.

I'm with Junkie on this one.

What's with UD members posting threads everytime a celebrity comes out of the closet? Most aren't really big stars.

It's like we want to recreate Rosie O Donnell all over again. :P

Yay for Neil! While it is more than reasonable, considering the infinitesmial amount of gay characters on television, I still do find myself wondering how people such as T.R. Knight and Neil himself must feel pretending to be straight on their respective shows.
