UD Interview With Don Hahn

For those who haven't visited the front page recently, Luke has posted a one-on-one interview with the legendary Disney producer, Don Hahn.

Really good job on the interview, Luke. You asked really great questions and he provided really great answers. I love that he was so candid, and it was great to hear his thoughts on things like TNBC and WFRR's place in the Disney canon. I also enjoyed learning more about the 3D process fo TNBC, as I'll be seeing that next week.

I'm disheartened to hear his answer about Hunchback's DVD release, though. This makes me think I should give in and get the Gold Collection.

It's awesome that UD and Don Hahn got to have this chat. Great job! UD rocks!

Great interview! I think the Oscar-winning/Oscar-nominated shorts DVD idea is amazing...I would buy it! If you don't have THoND at all yet, you probably should spring for the existing DVD (but I don't think it's Gold Collection).

Great job Luke. I was so thrilled when I logged on and saw the interview. I have so much respect for Don Hahn and I'm very glad that he is working on the 3-D adaptation of TNBC. I plan on seeing it sometime next week when it opens. Hunchback is one of my top ten favorite Disney films, so I really hope we see a 2-disc edition in the near future hopefully with a lot of interviews and introductions to bonuses by Mr. Hahn. I'm very excited about what he said about short subjects and 2-D animation.

That was a great interview. Don Hahn is so amazing, as is all of his work. Disappointing new about Hunchback though. I'm sure someday it will get a release that is a step up from it's current release.

What Gold Collection?

Disney labeled it "The Original Animated Classic", which is better than Gold Collection, but apparently not good enough to be Special Edition (and yet Oliver & Company gets that branding and their making of is like 1/4 the length of the HoND one...).

Ditto! I really enjoyed reading the interview, especially when he was talking about the shorts. It's nice to see Disney going back to their roots!

Yeah, we haven't announced anything yet. We're certainly working on it. We would love to work on hand-drawn animation again. Absolutely.

That was a really great interview, gongratulations to Luke. Although Don Hahn made me hope again- for another traditionally animated feature, that is- he seemed not to be in a hurry to produce such thing. Phrases like "in the future..", "We're definately working on it", "trends come and go" made me anxious. I don't wanna be 80 by the time the next 2-d animated feature comes out! I WANT IT NOW!!!

Wow, really great interview Luke. Although, I was interested to hear what he had to say about the DVD of TNBC in 3D and he didn't seem to be too keen on releasing it in 3D on DVD. I would certainly buy it in 3D. I only have it on video, and when I first bought it, I wanted to chuck it out because I thought that it was going to be good, but it turned out to be very different to what I was expecting. I only bought it because the label Disney was there, and it was a holiday film. It's pretty weird, and the popularity of it is overblown, but it is growing on me. I think that it would be better in 3D, because it would make the movie more interesting, rather than just two hours of stop-motion.
Anyway, it was a great interview, and it was really enjoyable reading it. I want to watch TNBC, Hocus Pocus, and the Haunted Mansion now! I wish we celebrated Halloween here in Oz!
Oh, and is there going to be a review of the newly-released soundtrack of TNBC, with Marilyn Manson, Panic! At the Disco covers, etc.? I hope there is. If not, then it doesn't matter.

Awesome interview, Luke. I must say, I really enjoy these, when you get the chance to do them. I'm glad that I got The Hunchback of Notre Dame on DVD, when I did. I actually got it from Disney's Buy 3 Get 1 Free deal!

I have never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas, and was hoping to get the chance to see it, for the first time, in 3-D. It looks like the closest showing from where I live is either in Kansas City, Kansas, or Dallas, Texas. Either way, it's a several hour drive, in either direction.

I guess I'll just rent the DVD, although I'd LOVE to see it in 3-D!

......I must say.....I do in elements agree with a couple of posters.....he seemed a bit like he's not in a hurried mood(if you know what I mean)...he obviously said he wasn't in a mood to rush 2D animation yet. He still wants to work on 3D which is fine, but I sure hope Disney gets back to routes of 2D animation again and I think they'll be as good as ever. I was happy when they showed an interview with Don hahn. I admire him a lot, I show so much respect for this great man. He produced many great movies such as Beauty And The Beast, Lion King, The Hunchback Of Notre Damn, Who Framed Roger Rabbit etc...and one thing too, he knows lots of things and recent things that's happened with Disney such as critics, budget from DVD costs, films and theme parks and all ( I know this evidently through the bonus materials I have been watching in my Disney DVDs collection). Even though Disney has been in rough patches or been in a slump, he still sticks with them side by side, showing how much he has contributed to the Disney Studios these past couple of decades, not giving up yet. And he still works on them even though many other cast and crew memebers are now working somewhere else. Anyhow I also want to make a comment on the new 3D thetrical release of "The Nightmare Before Christmas". I haven't watched it yet, but it seems kinda cool the way he has described the movie. His collaboration with Tim Burton I thought, would be an outsanding re-released movie coming back to life in theatres. He also talked about the DVD of this movie and when or if it would come out. I think all headlines and news he's been updating has all been quite interesting in the interview and pretty informed too without giving away too much info on his latter parts of his project. He said he also made this short film inside the latest Platinum release "The Little Mermaid" on DVD. I'm excited to see it, but I'm more excited to will have seen his latest interviews in person and how the movie and storyboards been working.

Great interview, Luke! You hit the mark with all the right questions, and the answers felt very sincere and passionate.

I'm discouraged by the lack of development for a 2 Disc set for Hunchback, so I might just go ahead and buy it. At least he confirmed some projects are in the works for traditional animation! Exciting times!

Did anybody else feel the urge to applaud when he said "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" deserved to be called "Disney movies"?

Definetely a great interview Luke, unfortunately, I still don't think 2D animation can ever come back. They still have the problem with rebuilding the entire animation studio, which I doubt they've started, and as far as "features" go, I'm 110% sure he meant shorts(which I'm excited to see) because as far as movies go, I don't think we'll see one in the next decade(s).

Oh, and The Hunchback can rot in the vault for all I care, what about a 2(well, I wish 4) disc edition of Chicken Little this February with a free ticket to "Meet the Robinsons"?

Or more related note to this topic, even though I'm glad the question of the 3D version on DVD was asked, I want to know will there be a 2-Disc in the future, as I've been avoiding one of my all-time favorites because of it.

I'm estatic about the shorts program they started up! I don't think I have enough potential for feature animation, though.

I also hope that they do come out with the various Oscar shorts on a compilation DVD, especially Lorenzo. Or maybe they could make another Fantasia out of the shorts they currently have as well as the ones already in development.

We know one of them is Priscilla Weems from Five Mile Creek. Can't remember if the Lukester gave us hints for the other two, but I think Aaron mentioned that he interviewed...Bonnie Hunt, I think. Or I'm confusing things...it's 2:30 in the morning so I just might be...

Oh, okay. Never saw Five Mile Creek, so I won't really know that much about her, but I like the prospect of the interview revealing more on the DVD business of the show. Hopefully more DVDs can be released of it. Bonnie Hunt sounds about right, as either he or PlutoRegion1 met her at the Cars premiere. Hopefully if Luke does interview her, he can find out more on the upcoming sequel to Mrs Doubtfire. She's either starring in it, or writing it, I can't remember. Oh, and find out if Disney is going to release Life With Bonnie anytime soon.
