I work in a DVD retail store and Buena Vista today sent us a DVD advertising it's products for the coming months and in the Little Mermaid featurette it had a graphic showing the past and future Platinum Edition releases (of Masterpiece Editions as they are called here). In the column for 2008 are Pinocchio in February and Snow White in October!
Now before anyone says oh but you aren't in America that could be just for Australia, we have received exactly the same titles in exactly the same month as you guys have since Platinum Editions began (as you can see in the picture) so this looks to be pretty solid confirmation. Strange given that up until recently it appeared that 101 Dalmations would be '07 and now its not even going to be '08!
Below is the picture so you guys actually believe me.

Well, I am glad that "Pinocchio" will see it's PE release sooner than later, but i still wish Disney would wait to start re-releasing PEs until they have released all of them. If they could hold their horses on "Snow White" and do "101 Dalmatians" and "Fantasia" in 2009, then March of 2010 could be "Sleeping Beauty" and then they could re-start the line with "Snow White" the following October. I could wait for "Fantasia" and "Sleeping Beauty" to be added since they both already have decent multi-disc sets, but "101 Dalmatians" and "Pinocchio" currently have bare bones single disc releases in the US and I think I speak for most people when I say I would rather see those films released to the Platinum line before "Snow White" gets it's second PE release.
I'm not questionning the source of this information, but in all logic, Disney simply CANNOT rereleased Snow White in Oct 2008, before releasing 101 Dalmatians and Sleeping Beauty, both of which have previously been officialy annouced by Disney as being part of the Platinum Edition line.
Plus, I guess the rerelease of the 2008 Snow White, would mean that the movie would make the jump to Blu-Ray DVD, and I definitily can't see Disney make the leap to HD before releasing the other 2 unreleased Platinums in the regular DVD format.
But I guess time will tell if this calendar remains accurate...
Thanks anyway for posting

Friends, 5.14 - The One Where Everybody Finds Out
While I feel sorry for the Dalmatians fans who must certainly be up in arms over their film getting post poned over and over again, I have to admit I'm happy. Peter Pan and Pinocchio are the only Platinums left I really care about (Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty's current discs satisfy me, though I'm still willing to upgrade both if the improvements are substantial). I've seen excerpts of the Lowry restoration that R2 has already received, and am very impressed by it. Hopefully the supplements for this will be excellent. Pinocchio has the potential to be just as good a DVD as Snow White's as long as they put forth the effort.
Question: what is blu-ray, and wouldn't it be concievable that even if you didn't have said blue ray, you could watch it in a conventional dvd player?
I mean, i know people who have high defination t.v.s and they are like oooo, but i've watched t.v. on it, and then go home and watch shows that are hd, and it still looks the same to me.
I don't see why when they start re-releasing the PE's thay can't bump the release schedule to 3 per year. It's not like the restoration should need to be redone again, or tons more bonous features will be added (if any). It is simply a re-release.
Personally I don't think PE's should be re-released (unless it is only on blue-ray). I think they should use the re-releases to start the innevitable Diamond Editions. Actually I'd like to see the re-release of Snow White to be a 3 Disc 70th Anniversary Edition. Sure it will technically be a year late but, SW&TSD didn't enter wide release till 1938 so they could get away with it.
I just want them to stop delaying the PE I've been looking forward to the most.

i like the idea of a Snow White anniversary edition, although it would make more sense to wait another year. Then again Lady and the Tramp's 50th Anniversary edition came out earlier this year which shouldve been the 51st anniversary.
While I have niether Snow White or Pinocchio, I would much rather get a PE of 101 Dalmatians first. And there are five more Pe still to get an initial release...why are they taking up a slot with a rerelease.
Are we sure SW is a PE?? Do you think they're just rereleasing a single-disc, lower-quality DVD...like they did with Tarzan and Emperor's New Groove??
I feel sorry for the people who really like 101 Ds and that it has been postponed repeatedly, but still I'm excited for SWatSD to come back earlier than I thought, since I missed the frst release of it, like many others.
But it is without any logic, that "old" PE titles are going to be released before the whole PE line is actually finished.
I already have SW&tSD on DVD, & personally, I don't think there would be much to add to the new DVD. The old DVD was filled to the brim with features, with no room left to spare. What could they possibly add to this release that hasn't been on the old one?
Besides, I think that 101 Dalmatians deserves a Platinum & should come out in 2008 along with Pinocchio (which I'm happy that it's finally getting the Platinum release it deserves).
NO! I fell cheated again! It should have just stayed as the old plan went with Bambi, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians then perhaps add Pinocchio! Sure you could mix THAT up and I'd be fine but Peter Pan has been on DVD TWO times and it was not that long ago since the last release. And Snow White? Ha! PLEASE have some dignity honestly wait until the others are done and fallow the original word of 10 years. I have no beef with a movie gone for 8 years as long as it was released after the change other wise it seems as if the old ads were false advertising when they said "Get it before it's locked in vault for 10 years!" Oh but I'm happy about the Pinocchio thing.

I'm sure they'll add something to entice the owners of SW's previous PE to buy the new one, but obviously they only reason to release her again is sales, sales, sales.
Personally, I can't wait to go through all of the advertising again! I simply adore the film, and I really don't even remember anything about it's campaign at all, nevermind the fact that I didn't have a DVD player when it first came out.
I already have the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition, so I have to say I'm a little disappointed by this news. I think Disney should finish releasing all 14 titles in the Platinum Edition line before they start to re-release already existing Platinum Editions. I have been very much anticipating the arrival of 101 Dalmations on Platinum Edition. You never know, Disney surprised us by making Peter Pan: PE #9, there is still time to change the schedule. This is my hope for the upcoming schedule
March 2007: Peter Pan PE
October 2007: Jungle Book PE
March 2008: 101 Dalmations PE
October 2008: Pinocchio PE
March 2009: Sleeping Beauty PE (50th Anniversary)
October 2009: Fantasia PE
Why can't my beloved Fantasia come out sooner? Sure, the Anthology Set is FANTASTIC, but where's my PE? This makes me sad. I also really like 101 Ds, but why should it be postponed to a further release date then originally planned? I agree with most everyone here, restart the whole thing after the last movie has been released.
Things get baffling and even more baffling. As someone else has pointed out, why should SW prevent a new PE from being released? It's not fair on the other films that have been unavailable for a longer time. The fight of the princesses will soon ensue. Snow White vs Aurora.
Now I'm stopping my rant and going to sleep 'cos it 11:16 PM and I have to wake up for school at 6:30 AM tomorrow. Drat! I've already missed out my 8 hours!

Because I want Pinocchio first, and Disney likes me more.
Seriously though, I'm not ready to call this list "official" as I remember when there was "breaking news" 101 Dalmatians was coming before TJB in Spring.
Although, I AM DEFINETELY excited for Pinocchio(my 2nd favorite animated classic) as for Snow White, well... Dave, I promise to give money this week. Really I will very soon.
