A significant milestone, for sure. How fickle it is for Disney to celebrate Disneyland's 35th anniversary and not Disney World's. But then I guess when you devote 18 months to celebrating all parks' 50th worldwide, you have to make some sacrifices.

Other noteworthy events of October 1971:

The world's first e-mail is sent, from Ray Tomlinson to Ray Tomlinson.
October 2: Tiffany is born.
October 17: The Pittsburgh Pirates win the World Series, defeating the Baltimore Orioles in seven games. Roberto Clemente is the series MVP.
October 20: Snoop Doggy Dogg is born.
October 25: Cartoonist Paul Terry (founder of Terrytoons Studio) dies at 84.
October 31: Halloween is celebrated for only the second time of the decade.

Woohoo! I remember being there during the 15th Birthday Celebration! That must have been my first visit! Have had several since, and am definitely due for another (last one was in 2004 and was great, but very rushed). Only been to Disneyland once, back when I was 5 or 6.

35 years and not so much as a mention from the resort! (That I've seen). It makes sense, I supposed, given the HCOE. Let's just hope Epcot fairs better for its 25th (which isn't looking at all promising, since it's next year).

I suppose when you think about it, 35 isn't really all that big a number. No more special than 27 for example. 50 has a nice roundness to it, and when Disney have been plugging the marketing machine pretty hard for almost 2 years for the 50th of Disneyland, and are now trying desperately to get anybody interested in the Year of a Million Dreams, little birthdays like 35 fall by the wayside.

Hopefully when I rock up to the place in 2008, the park's 37th birthday, more emphasis will be placed on Mickey's 80th!

Happy Birthday Walt Disney World

39 years ago today WDW opened its gates. I was in the first class of grad nighters to celebrate at the Magic Kingdom in 1972. Going to Disney October 7th with my Give a Day ticket. Long live WDW. Looking forward to next year when it turns the big 4-0.

We're leaving 2 months after my birthday. It was a birthday present and I'm excited. I'm an adult but going to WDW makes me feel like a kid again.
