commercials
This thread is to talk about your favorite or most hated commercials...
Currently, I get so annoyed by that one where the guy who plays Mini Me starts singing that "It's My Birthday" song. Ugh....
I also find the one with the nerdy lady calling to switch her phone service to Roadrunner or something very annoying.
As for some I like. I like the one where the hot girl who works at the grocery store goes to the back room to tell this guy off, but he's eating cereal so he can't hear everything she's saying and he thinks she likes him. I mainly like that one for the girl, but it IS funny.
I also love two ad campaigns that you don't see much any now. One is the German Engineer who unpimps people's cars. It's a Volkswagen commercial. That dude is hilarious! Loved him as Lucifer in "Constantine" too. I also love the commercials for one of those phone companies, I think it's Sprint, with that so cute, fast talking cheerleader. I actually put one of the Volkswagen commercials on my "My Space" page, but I couldn't find the Cheerleader ones. http://www.myspace.com/slave2moonlight

I love the new Geico ads! My favorites are Little Richard ("MASHED POTATOES, GRAVY, AND CRANBERRY SAUCE....WOOO!") and Peter Graves ("But you know, I still love him..."). I'm also fond of the spot with Burt Bacharach, but I don't see that one as often as the others.
I also like Dell's new ad campaign, particularly the music. The tune sort of sounds like the beginning of OK Go's "Get Over It."

I always loved the commercial for Cheerios where the grandmother is trying to explain to the baby where all the family members came from to have Christmas together. The baby keeps trying to grab a Cheerio to eat, though, and by the end, he picks up one and eats it, and the grandmother says something like "You just ate Uncle Ralph!". Then, in a cute move, the baby feeds the grandmother a Cheerio.
I absolutely *love* the Gap commercial featuring Audrey Hepburn! It's like, the highlight of commercial breaks, and a reason not to change the channel! The movie it's from, "Funny Face", is okay, though perhaps the highlight of the movie (and obviously the commercial), is Audrey's freestyle dance, which IIRC, is called "Basal Metabolism".

Yea, that new gap tv spot w/audrey is pretty great. They have the window displays now too. I hate skinny pants/jeans, but as all effective advertising does, it makes me want to buy them. Billing them as "classic" and sticking a combo of audrey and "back in black" in it makes me feel like they're actually classy. Although, I'm still stubborn enough not to give in to an ultimately unflattering trend just based on ad campaign.

I also like the Citi Credit Card ad with the two old ladies sitting there, talking in really gruff voices ("Yeah...shoot.").
The Skittles commercial with the kids sitting on the rainbow is good, too.
The Staples "EasyButton" commercials are favorites as well. My favorite is the one that ends with the guy being stuffed in the cabinet.
The Sierra Mist ads are must-sees.
But the ultimate funny commercials are those that come from Sonic. The two guy friends and the husband and wife are hilarious! Hands-down favorite.
Commercials I hate are the Burger King commercials. The ones with the guy in a king mask are plain creepy and the ones with the Dad and Son dressed as burgers are full of double entendres that I don't think should be in commercials.

The most irritating ad on TV. It gets shown about 36,000,000 times an hour!

My favorite commercial of all-time is, I think, for Sprite. It was on about 6 or 7 years ago. It had a family eating breakfast, at a sunny kitchen table, and talking like they were parodying People Talking on a TV Commercial. You know the type, and they have some kind of drink on the table that looks like Sunny Delight with a Sun-type / 7-Up type animated figure (only with sunglasses) jumps off of the drink-bottle's label and says something in reply to something the mother said. It was very much like the kids saying, "mmm- this new Orange Sunnydrink is so good!" and the Mother says, "and it's good for you, too!" So the little animated character jumps off the label and says, "It's part of this nutritious, balanced meal!" and the Mother and the kids are shown in quick closeups as they react to seeing this is SHOCK and HORROR. The kids SCREAM for their lives and the Mother grabs them and says, "RUN, KIDS!!!" And they're all running away from him and he's following them, bouncing on the floor, chuckling and saying things like, "it's full of 7 essential vitamins and minerals!" and we see them running in closeup, one of the kids slips and falls and screams in closeup, the Mother turns her head in closeup and screams, we see the character still chuckling and bouncing, and the little kid as the Animated character gets closer.
Does anyone remember that one? It was the funniest thing I've ever seen in a commercial - ever!
My 2nd favorite commercial was for some kind of Girls and Boys Club. Do you remember those? Well, this one had kids in a greenish/gray room playing ping pong. There was about 4 or 5 of them. They're hitting the ball back and forth and it falls on the floor, and rolls over to the door. They all turn around. We see the ball stop rolling in closeup next to a persons' shoe/foot. We cut to see a grown black woman standing in the doorway, looking at the pingpong ball on the floor then up to the kids. We see the kids in a wideshot who look at her - cut back to her looking out at them. With a very blank expression on her face. Cut back to them and they sort of look like, "hey, she's going to give us our ball back." The Narrator says something about the importance of kids to play and to have the time to be kids. And then, something about other people helping them and being some kind of mentor. Then, we cut back to her in full shot, and she stamps her foot on the pingpong ball, squishing it flat, without moving any of her body or changing the expression on her face. And then we see the kids' faces and they're a little sad, they can't believe they just saw what they saw.
That was an awesome commercial, I remember laughing my Butt off the first time I saw it!
Then, I mostly don't notice commercials. For the most part, I hate ALL McDonalds' commercials. I can't stand that damn "I'm lovin' it" crap. It makes me violent! I don't mind those Burger King commercials at all. The Geico commercials are cool, but not really that special.
For the most part, when it comes to commercials, what I hate the most are ultra-fake people. So, of course I hate almost every commercial selling alcohol - they are always the fakest. Especially that Disoronto commercial when the stupid woman and the stupid man are half-flirting and she sucks the ice cube. And that Bailey's commercial or whatever when they're talking about the last drop or whatever, some woman tries to catch a single drop and some idiot guy steals it from her. And that really retarded commercial when everyone's dancing at a club to some jackass who's creating their beat apparently by crushing ice in a cup, he stops, they stop and they all look so sad. Awww, poor idiots! I've only seen 1 good Alcohol commercial, the one where there are a bunch of people floating in a room with bubbles or something and they're shooting / bouncing them back at each other (not that Propel water commercial where the people drop out of water drips, a different one).
But I've been getting really mellow about commercials recently. They're not so bad. The one I see the most is the Dominos commercial with the Fudgy Brownie (could be worse) with The Nanny's actor who played Brighton - Benjamin something.

Oh!! That reminds me of the frickin' commercials that are really pissing me off right now - Enzyte, male enhancement. Making it appealing by taking a total suburban/yuppie dork type, who actually doesn't look altogether human by any stretch of the imagination (nor do any of the "supporting" characters), and giving him what look like "super powers." Do people think that's supposed to be cute or something? It's not. It's so stupid, I am embarassed for the people who would take this product after watching these commercials. I could never believe anyone would fess up to using this product, just on account of these godawful commercials!numba1lostboy wrote:Oh, and Viagra commercials make me uncomfortable.

Any medical commercials that have "real" people and their testimonials always piss me off. If I see another Paxil ad, I'll seriously throw something at my TV.
The cholestoral commercials are annoying too. The ones where they do stuff like:
Miles run every day: 10.7
Weights lifted in a session: 144
Daily calories: 500
Cholestoral: SOME OBNOXIOUSLY LARGE NUMBER
Irritates the hell out of me.
The Mastercard "Priceless" commercials were cute at first, but they've worn that ad out completely and i's entirely tiresome to see all the time.
Money spent on first "Priceless" ad: $50,000
Amount of people who switched to Mastercard after the first "Priceless" ad aired: 45,000
Amount of people who have since switched back to their old company: 44,583
Amount of people getting tired of watching the "Priceless" ad after so many yearsv: 3,000,000
Mastercard retiring the "Priceless" ad, yet ironically using it as the announcement that this is the final one: Priceless

Found it! I love this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_yGodYHP2A
That "Frosties" commercial was messed up! So glad we don't get that here! Then again, it's pretty funny...
Not much of an Audrey Hepburn fan, so I really don't like the Gap commercial, and I really dislike those Geico commercials with the celeb interpreters! Some are funny, but some just annoy the heck out of me. Mainly the Mini Me one though. I also hate the new voice of the Gecko.
I do like the commercials where the guy works in the office and they ask him to do something, and he pretends that he's gonna do it with magic, and they all freak out, but then he makes fun of 'em for expecting it to work. Not sure what they're selling. I usually flip channels for commercials, and when I do watch them, I often don't catch what they're trying to sell me, ha. Good for me, bad for them. Anyways, I also like these new ones where this guy is supposed to be a magician, and he really acts weird and hilarious. He doesn't talk, but he stares and makes hand motions and it's flippin' hilarious!

And has anyone seen the new McDonald's ads? Especially the one about the new "snack wrap" with the people in the office? That one annoys the heck out of me. and the other McD's ads bug me because they're all trying to make McD's seem like such a classy place...but it's McDonald's...
And the subway commercials with Jon Lovitz? Those make me cringe.
