2007's Animated Classic Re-Releases
2005 brought us re-releases of
Bambi (a double disc release)
Cinderella (a double disc release)
Pocahontas (a double disc release)
Tarzan (a single disc release) and
The Emperor's New Groove (a single disc release)
2006 brought us re-releases of
Lady & The Tramp (a souble disc release)
Dumbo (a single disc release)
The Fox & The Hound (a single disc release)
The Little Mermaid (a double disc release) and
Robin Hood (a single disc release)
So it looks like a trend is starting
2 Platinum releases and
3 Special edition (big top, new groove, 25th ann. etc...) releases
Which leads me to wonder what 2007's will be
So far we know we are getting
Peter Pan (a double disc release) and
The Jungle Book (a double disc release)
My hopes for the other 3 are
The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (a double disc release) -- it seems like there is enough bonus features to make s 2 disc set
Hercules (a double disc release) -- they could fill it will historical featurettes and making of's etc...)
The Sword & The Stone (a single disc release) or
The Black Cauldron (a single disc release)
Anyway, what do you think is most likely??

I'm pretty sure that everyone will hope for a double disc set of both The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules. I wouldn't mind a "Big Top Edition" or a "Most Wanted Edition" for The Aristocats, The Black Cauldron, or The Sword in the Stone. I'm really hoping for those two double disc sets.
My Scheduel:
Peter Pan - March 6
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - April/May
The Aristocats - June/July
The Sword in the Stone/The Black Cauldron - August/September
The Jungle Book - October
Hercules - November/December

Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules are definitely at the top of my list, too! I wouldn't mind seeing a Rescuers Anthology released...
The Great Mouse Detective or Aristocats would be good...
But The Black Cauldron and Sword In The Stone would be better.
And disney needs to release Saludos Amigos, Make Mine Music, The Three Cabelleros, Melody Time, Fun And Fancy Free, and The Adventures Of Ichabod And Mr. Toad in volumes.
They could put SA with T3C and MT with MMM and FAFF with AOIAMT.

Since I already have all the theatrical animated features on their best releases so far, except Dumbo and Peter Pan, which I only have the original DVD releases of, and I still don't own Home on the Range, Valiant, Heffalump Movie, or The Wild yet, I'm really not desperate for anything other than certain out of print or hard to find direct to video titles and the unedited releases of certain titles. Oh, and of course, certain unreleased titles.
Like everyone, I wish they'd release Song of the South and So Dear to My Heart, but those aside, my hopes would be for uncut releases of Melody Time, Make Mine Music, and Saludos Amigos (don't think Three Caballeros was edited, but I heard Saludos was, and I KNOW the other two were). After that, probably DuckTales the Movie would be my first choice. I would love a Hunchback 2-disc set, or a 2-disc set of anything that hasn't had one yet. Personally, I don't care to have to upgrade from a single disc edition to ANOTHER single disc edition. I really think "Black Cauldron" needs a 2-disc rerelease, and another single disc edition would be a disappointment.

I would love a Black Cauldron 2-Discer, but I really doubt that's gonna happen. It's not well-known enough...and I don't think many people would buy it for their children (it's a little creepier than the other classics).

Oh, I forgot to say that Hercules would be excellent for a 2-disc edition! They ought to include "Zero to Hero" on disc 2 as well, just as an extra, ha.
Anyways, hey, that's great numba1! I love visiting San Antonio and thereabouts. I'm about 4 hours south of S.A. though. I live way down on the tip, in McAllen, which is in the Rio Grande Valley. I envy you guys up there. We're right on the border, so we have all the border town issues. This is a REALLY tough place to live if you don't speak Spanish, because it's entirely focused on Latino culture. I'm half Spanish myself, but I'm also half English/Irish and not really into the whole Tejano scene. Like, not at all.
I think they need a limited issue 2-disc DVD line for titles that aren't unusual enough for Disney Treasures, but have limited appeal anyway. It'd be a good way to release The Black Cauldron with all the deleted scenes as extras, uncut versions of Make Mine Music, Melody Time, and Saludos Amigos, and a good line for controversial stuff like Song of the South (and maybe So Dear to My Heart?). A "Disney Confidential" line or something, ha, themed for the controversial classics.numba1lostboy wrote:I would love a Black Cauldron 2-Discer, but I really doubt that's gonna happen. Pinocchio is going to be released as a Platinum Edition in either '08 or '09. I think that Disney will eventually release The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules. I don't know if it will be next year, but I would think that they would release it in '08/'09.Kyle wrote:isn't pinocchio over due for a new release?
I hope we do get hunchback or Hercules. I hear the transfers weren't that great. I don't own them yet. speaking of which, I wonder if I should buy them now, or wait and see if it comes out next year. I don't want to have to double dip.

I honestly hope that Sword in the Stone's will at least show some of the deleted animation & the some of the abandoned concepts. I know that a commentary is highly unlikely, but one can still hope...
As for a Rescuers Anthology... there should be a whole bunch of goodies, since it's a very popular & critical film in Disney's animation history, commentary is a must...
Hunchback & Hercules should at least get a set similar to Mulan or Pocahontas...
& what happened to that Lilo & Stitch: SE DVD? I hope that when it finally comes out that it was worth the wait...
Song of the South... you know the drill...
I was really looking forward to 101 Dalmatians to come out next year, but what are you gonna do? I guess patience is the key for this release. At least Jungle Book is on the way. Hope for the best...
& Pinocchio NEEDS a PE like a dog needs a walk! DVD ASAP!

Films I don't think Disney considers major enough for re-releasing:
Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Films that have enough supplements for Disney not to re-release (note that these may still be flimsy releases, but I'm comparing them to the Robin Hood and Fox and the Hound SEs):
The Sword in the Stone
The Rescuers
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver & Company
Treasure Planet
Home on the Range
Chicken Little
Films that are likely to be revisited:
The Aristocats - The international DVD has features we don't
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - This has enough supplements, but Disney is so Pooh-hungry that I can see a 30th anniversary edition
The Black Cauldron - This the only widescreen animated classic without anamorphic enhancement
The Rescuers Down Under - The international DVD has features we don't, and this needs a CAPS transfer
The Hunchback of Notre Dame - This is too major of a film not to get a re-release, the supplements are already available, and it needs a CAPS transfer
Hercules - This is too major of a film not to get a re-release, and it needs a CAPS transfer
Lilo & Stitch - The supplements are done, and half the world has this, already
It's really all up in the air at this point. I, personally, am rooting for Hunchback, Hercules, and Lilo.

Well, going by past releases and schedule trends, here's what I think we'll see for 2007:
March 2007:
Platinum Titlte: Peter Pan - it's a given
Platinum Support: Tinkerbell and the Ring of Belief - the two support each other, so we already know that no other DAC is getting a March release.
Summer 2007:
Re-Release Title: Lilo and Stitch - LONG overdue just based on the fact that material exists, is readily available in other regions, and was supposed to be a 2-disc in the first place, dammit! Plus, Stitch is one of Disney's fastest growing mascots, so they'll likely have a Stitch related release every odd-numbered summer (2003 was Stitch the Movie, 2005 was Lilo & Stitch 2, 2007 can likely be Lilo & Stitch 2-Disc Special Edition)
October 2007:
Platinum Title: The Jungle Book - it's a given
Platinum Support: The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh: 30th Anniversary Edition (single-disc) - Disney loves their Anniversary Editions, and given that this went OOP not long ago, a re-release seems 70% possible right now.
OR
Platinum Support: Hercules: 10th Anniversary Edition (likely single-disc, sad to say) - just to give a film an anniversary release...
As much as I'd love for the package features and the other animated films (Sword in the Stone, Aristocats, Black Cauldron, Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company) to be revisited on DVD, Disney has shown very little support for them, as evident by their lacking releases (SITS and O&C excluded, though that may very well be a fluke). However, given the fact that we're getting re-releases for Fox and the Hound (understandable, to support F&H2), and Robin Hood (very surprising), I may be wrong and we may see a re-release of a "lesser" title in 2007.
And, as wonderful as Hunchback of Notre Dame is, Disney shot themselves in the foot by not releasing it this year for an Anniversary Edition (hell, I wouldn't mind giving the Robin Hood: Most Wanted Edition slot to HoND, and have Robin Hood come in 2007), so I doubt they'd try an SE in 2007 unless they've got Hunchback III in the can and nobody knows about it (not even Lasseter). But since Hunchback 3 will never ever happen, and there's no real prospect for a re-release, the single-disc is sufficient for Disney. Then again, given the fact that they called Lady & The Tramp a 50th Anniversary Edition one year too late, a Hunchback 10th Anniversary Edition could be likely too.

Doubtful. We would have heard about it.Platinum Support: possible Peter Pan 3
Would love it! Needs to be 2-Disc, though.Hercules 10th Anniversary Edition
I would kill them if they released HoND with that subtitle. I really want this to be released, but not with a god-awful subtitle.Platinum Support: The Hunchback of Notre Dame Festival of Fools Edition
If Disney releases either titles, one of them will almost definitely have the 10th Anniv subtitle...
These releases would be great, but if LaS gets a rerelease, it's gonna be a 2-discer like we've heard. So that would probably mean we would'nt get another 2-disc release that year...Lilo and Stitch: Ohana Editon
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Silly Old Bear Edition
But anything can happen.

this is what i could imagine...
2 PE's: we all know what these are
Peter Pan- March
The Jungle Book- October
3 re-releases: these are up to debate for me.
Hercules- Definately needed in my opinion and it could be titled as a 10 year anniversary.
Hunchback of Notre Dame- once again, could be titled as a ten year anniversary, but i bet it'd be more likely to recieve a corny name edition.
Lilo and Stitch- no one can guarantee that this will be a 2-discer. Tarzan's SE was going to be 2-discs up until about a month before it's release. The plans can change, an honestly "The Ohana Edition" guessed my mickeymousepal sounds almost too real. i can regretibly see it happening.
The Jungle Book 2- I can imagine Disney making a big deal out of this and the fact that The Jungle Book's PE will be releasing this year only makes me suspect more so that we'll definately get a release of this by christmas, or very soon into 2008.
Return to Neverland- Same reasons as for The Jungle Book 2 only i would imagine this being released over the summer or as a fall release for certain.
Aristocats- I think Disney is going somewhere with re-releasing the smaller titles with corny edition names. I mean, i hate the corny names but i do have to say that if they are going to have them i'd rather it be for films like Robin Hood and the Aristocats. I think they'll re-release The Aristocats depending on Robin Hood's success.
New DTV
Cinderella III- February
Tinkerbell and the Ring of Relief- Not too long after Peter Pan's PE
Special DTV re-releases
Cinderella II- I feel it very possible that this may be released around Cinderella III, only because when the PE was released Cinderella II was released in region II (i believe). i think it's safe to redict what happens there could soon happen here. They will have also found a good way to publisize both films, and maybe throw Cinderella's PE back into the vault. It'd all connect very nicely i feel.
The Little Mermaid II- It could be released early january to milk off of TLM's PE, unless they wait until TLMIII. Which if the scenerio that i mentioned above for Cinderella II and III was to play out, they could follow it the same way.
PS i'd like to point out something i just realized while making this list. the PE of LatT didn't specify what was coming out next spring, so that tells me disney definately knew that it was going to switch up 101D and PP, which makes me wonder why we were so suprised...

If you are going on that reasoning then we will never get a LaS release because of the PE's. I think this past year was a fluke as far as 2-disc releases go. i think we can see more next year, but then again like i said in the post before this. there is no guarantee that LaS is going to be a 2-disc release. we can't be sure until a press release comes out.numba1lostboy wrote:

Or maybe they still weren't sure what the Spring 2007 Platinum would be, and finally decided on Peter Pan shortly before the booklets for TLM:PE were printed up.singerguy04 wrote:PS i'd like to point out something i just realized while making this list. the PE of LatT didn't specify what was coming out next spring, so that tells me disney definately knew that it was going to switch up 101D and PP, which makes me wonder why we were so suprised...
Remember, UD first reported that Peter Pan was moved from the Platinum release (IIRC, would've been March 2009) to a Spring 2007 release. At the time, we thought it meant that it was pulled entirely from the Platinum schedule, and speculated that it may have been the platinum support title for 101 Dalmatians, along with a promotional title for the Tinkerbell movie. I don't think any of us on the boards speculated at all that it would replace 101 Dalmatians as the Platinum, mainly because we were all fixed on the idea of the original 10 finishing up the cycle by the end of 2007.

Well first let's take a look at which Disney films will be celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2007 (I'm leaving out insignifcant ones, unless anyone thinks we'll be seeing a 55th Anniversary Edition of The Story of Robin Hood):
Snow White - 70th
Bambi - 65th
Fun and Fancy Free - 60th
Old Yeller - 5oth
The Jungle Book - 40th
The Happiest Millionaire - 40th
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - 30th
The Rescuers - 30th
Pete's Dragon - 30th
Tron - 25th
Aladdin - 15th
Newsies - 15th
Honey, I Blew Up the Kid - 15th
The Mighty Ducks - 15th
The Muppet Christmas Carol - 15th
Hercules - 10th
That Darn Cat - 10th
Jungle2Jungle - 10th
George of the Jungle - 10th
BATB: Enchanted Christmas - 10th
Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves - 10th
Flubber - 10th
Air Bud - 10th
Lilo & Stitch - 5th

...Yes, I know this thread was only about animated classics. I kind of forgot about that and now my list has already been made.
We know for sure that Peter Pan and The Jungle Book (which I'm sure will be labeled a 40th Anniversary Edition) will be coming. I think that probably guarantees Return to Neverland and The Jungle Book 2 as well.
I'm really hopeful for Pete's Dragon getting a deluxe 30th Anniversary Edition. Of course, it didn't happen for Bedknobs' 35th last year (though it still could in '07, as Disney loves their fuzzy math). I'm also really hoping for Hercules' 10th, but it didn't happen for Hunchback either (though again, being only one year off, it still could).
There's pretty much no chance of these being re-released, despite their anniversaries: Snow White, Bambi, Fun and Fancy Free, Old Yeller, The Happiest Millionaire, Aladdin, The Muppet Christmas Carol, That Darn Cat, Treasure Planet, Jungle2Jungle, George of the Jungle, AirBud
I do, however, think that all of these stand a decent chance at being re-released for their anniversaries: Pete's Dragon, Hercules, BATB: Enchanted Christmas, Flubber, Lilo & Stitch (it won't be called an anniversary edition though), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (ugh), The Rescuers, Tron, Newsies, The Mighty Ducks
Movies that aren't celebrating anniversaries but still have a good chance of re-release? Again, there's Bedknobs and Hunchback. Also, I'd definitely add The Aristocats. We've been hearing about this for a while and Disney has stepped up promotion of this film big time lately (anyone else noticed?).
With two of the sequels celebrating anniversaries and all of them needing new DVD releases badly, I think we could see a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids SE trilogy. I also expect re-releases of the first two Santa Clause movies to accompany #3 on DVD around Christmastime. We also may very well see some sort of trilogy package for Pirates of the Caribbean around that time as well.
Also, it's not really Disney, but I expect a 15th Anniversary Editon of Sister Act.
