Disney Channel News!
Disney Channel News!
Guys, I just found out that both Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and The Buzz on Maggie have been cancelled. You guys probably already knew about it, but I certainly didn't. It's shocking that four DC series have been cancelled in the past year or so, before the 65 eps had been made. Dave the Barbarian, Phil of the Future, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, and The Buzz on Maggie have all suffered this fate. I hope that they make a finale type movie for Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and Phil of the Future. I'd like to find out if Brandy gets back to Florida and I'm not that keen on Phil of the Future, but it'd be nice for the diehard fans to have a movie, that tied up all of the loose ends. These would be DCOMs, of course. Hopefully Disney decides to do this, like they did with The Proud Family Movie and Leroy and Stitch.
At least Kim Possible is coming back later in the year. And American Dragon: Jake Long and The Emperor's New School are still on. And of course That's So Raven will have the movie. Let's hope that Kim Possible is renewed for a fifth season. That would be really good. It's sad that good quality series are being cancelled for crap like Life with Derek, Naturally Sadie and Hannah Montana.
In other Disney Channel news, The Cheetah Girls 2 has become the highest rating DCOM ever, ahead even of High School Musical. That's bodes well for a third installment of Cheetah Girls madness. The rumoured spin-off of Lizzie McGuire will be airing on the 7th September, 2007. Previously titled Stevie Sanchez, it's now called What's Stevie Thinking. Lalaine will be in it, taking up her role of Stevie's sister, Miranda Sanchez. She will most probably be very different from her Lizzie role, as that was like five years ago, and Lalaine has changed a lot since then.
And Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens are not being aired any more on the Disney Channel. That's sad, but hopefully Disney can make season sets of them, so that we don't have to suffer without them for much longer.
Okay, that's all for now. Enjoy! Or not.

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

It may be just my opinion, but Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and The Buzz on Maggie are welcome to leave. I really didn't like these shows at all. I felt the same way about Dave the Barbarian. I just felt that all these shows weren't meant to really last longer thana season really. The animation didn't have a disney quality to it either. I understand that different animators have different styles but all these characters seemed to blend into the Cartoon Network cannon too easily for me. Maybe now though all those people who created those shows can pull their talents together and make something that actually looks like it could last longer than 65 episodes.
I was sad about Phil and i really do hope that they make a DCOM for him. and this news on a miranda's little brother spin-off of Lizzie soulds very interesting indeed!

Not going to air Lizzie anymore? I hope they make more season sets. I got the first volume, but they never made more! I wish I'd gotten the 3rd and 4th "Best Of" DVDs they released (just got the first two).
I'm shocked that Phil is getting canceled. That's one of the only new shows I like! Thank goodness Emperor's New School is still on and that Kim is coming back.
I will never understand the fascination with the Cheetah Girls. Ugh.
Buzz on Maggie never appealed to me enough to give it a look. Brandy and Mr. Whiskers was kinda funny, but I generally would watch something else if I could find something else. Whenever I had it on, it was usually just for background noise as I did something else. Never bothered much with Dave either. When I see Disney animation that doesn't look up to Disney's standards, I get really disappointed and disinterested. That's why I only liked certain things from "One Saturday Morning" too.
They should do more with the Panabakers, and I hope they have something good cookin' up for Halloween. The Hannah Montanna cast can't act for the life of them. What's going on with "The Suite Life?" That's a pretty good show.
Even Stevens was funny, but I was never very into it.
A spring off about Miranda's little bro? I don't know, Miranda was my least favorite aspect of Lizzie McGuire...

I never really liked Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and I never even seen an episode of The Buzz on Maggie cuz it never appealed to me. But I did really like Phil of the Future and I am surprised its cancelled!!! It was a good show. I really like the Suite Life of Zach an Cody thouh. A spin of The Lizzie series sounds really interesting although I never knew Miranda had a little brother. I use to like Lizzie McGuire...well cuz I had a stupid crush on Hilary Duff when I was like 12-14 haha.

IIRC, Disney Channel only airs Life with Derek and Naturally Sadie, as they're Canadian-produced shows? Then again, they both suck. I've lost my hatred for Hannah Montana, it's not the best thing on Disney Channel, but it's not the worst, and you can't overlook Emily Osment's talent.James wrote:It's sad that good quality series are being cancelled for crap like Life with Derek, Naturally Sadie and Hannah Montana.

Would LOVE season sets for Even Stevens. The two aren't on Disney Channel anymore because as someone said, they're being syndicated on WGN.James wrote:And Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens are not being aired any more on the Disney Channel. Im glad to see most of those go. except for maybe lizzy. I didnt like the show myself, but I know there many Hillary Duff fans who must be ticked off about this. same goes for even stevens. I acutally watched that show on occasion. (that says a lot since I realy dont watch the disney channel anymore)
I wish they would put out some quality shows for once.
Edit: what does WGN stand for? Ive never heard of this network.

Well, I noticed they recently started rerunning Little Mermaid the series and Buzz Lightyear again. Plus, they do have Emperor's New School and Kim Possible, and still run New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. It's not much quality programming, but it's something. I think some of their other stuff is quality too, it's just not quality to those of us who are too old to like it. However, as I said, Phil was pretty good and Suite Life of Zack and Cody wasn't bad either. I tend to watch that stuff over the major networks anyway. I hardly watch the major networks at all anymore. Of course, current Disney channel doesn't compare to old Disney Channel, but most people know that. Lizzie was a good show too, but I'm also one of those huge Hilary Duff fans...

Re: Disney Channel News!
LOL, in 2007. I don't think I'm ready to add another show to my "dodge list". I have all three Disney Channels on my television from across the US. Thus I can choose what I want to watch: "Suite Life, Hannah Montana, That's So Raven" When there's something I don't like, I switch to the other channels.Escapay wrote:September 7 was 2 days ago, did anyone catch the show?James wrote: The rumoured spin-off of Lizzie McGuire will be airing on the 7th September, 2007. And the only reason (maybe) why Cheetah Girls 2 beat out High School Musical is because of the idea to have a "HotSpot" premiere with all the DC Stars attending. Disney sure knows how to boost viewing numbers!
Kim Possible to come back with new episodes? As long as they're good as the old ones.

Oh God why? What is the appeal here? The movies are corny, over-acted, and just plain awful. It represents basically everything I dislike about current Disney Channel (actually, it would have to add Miley Cyrus in there to represent it all).James wrote: In other Disney Channel news, The Cheetah Girls 2 has become the highest rating DCOM ever, ahead even of High School Musical. Yes, 'Winnie the Pooh' is still shown, but its on at like 4:30 in the morning. Hardly at a reasonable time.
I think there should be a DisneyChannelToo with Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo's Circus, original and 80s/90s Mickey Mouse Club, etc . Two movies a night which would be Disney classics - animated classics and live action. The original parent trap, Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson (air the whole thing and NO 'commercial breaks'!).

Re: Disney Channel News!
Well my husband said that he thought of all the Disney cartoon series that Brandy & Mr. Wiskers was the one that was worth watching (he also says Timon/Pumbaa one is good too). He made me sit down one day and watch an episode and I had to agree with him, so I'm surprised so many here don't like it. Sad to see it canceled.James wrote:Guys, I just found out that both Brandy and Mr. Whiskers and The Buzz on Maggie have been cancelled.....

The Cheetah Girls was close-captioned in Spanish and has heavy Spanish/Latin cultural tie-ins, so I would guess this played a roll in the higher numbers. Disney has scheduled an encore presentation for Sept. 15th, which will be broadcast in Spanish with English subtitles. So it looks like Disney is trying to reach a much larger market with this one, to include not only English speakers, but also Spanish-only speaking children and their parents. The movie was broadcast on Disney channels in Portugal, Spain, and Latin America.
I suppose we should expect Disney Channel to re-air this several time as they try and discern if the movie "has legs" or if it is a flash in the pan type of thing.

I noticed that actually, but for some reason had assumed it has always been like that. see I haven't been getting up that early for the longest time, and I just figured I have been sleeping through it. Id love it if they would switch up the schedule a bit. it would be nice to maybe have a different line up on certain days. make room for mickey mouse cartoons, or tales spin, or duck tails. all that classic stuff. I really don't see why they couldn't devote just a few hours day to classic disney, and rerun the rest of the crap that kids like these days later on.slave2moonlight wrote:Well, I noticed they recently started rerunning Little Mermaid the series and Buzz Lightyear again. wow, i wanna see the little mermaid series again! i caught an episode of the Timon and Pumbaa series the other day, maybe disney is make an effort to use some of the great stuff they already have instead of playing the same episode of that's so raven 3 times a day.
this all reminds me, does anyone else miss the vault disney nightime programing? it was treated like Nick at Night and i LOVED it. There you could see old shorts, The original mickey mouse club, zorro, the adventures of spin and marty. such a good idea that was shafted for the crap they play now late at night which is the same as what plays between noon and 8pm during the day.
And i would love to see more disney channel original series's that involve already existing disney characters and based off movies. Wouldn't a Rescuers series be awesome. Each episode they help another child, maybe they had kids as well? i think it'd be cool, and could sell. it's be like a Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers for the modern day.

Yeah, I think they've been showing Timon and Pumbaa again too. They're not just late at night, but also during the day. But I work at home, which is probably why I get to catch 'em. Anyways, I wouldn't say all they show late at night is crap. That's when I usually get to see Emperor's New Groove, Kim, Lilo and Stitch, and sometimes Pooh. Anyways, for all those shows we think are crap, there are a ton of fans who think they're high quality... Sometimes, I can't see how (like with Hannah Montanna or Cheetah Girls), but other times I think people throw the word "crap" around too loosely.
Anyways, I think they clearly are running the Little Mermaid show again in order to get people to buy the DVD. Yeah, I miss Vault Disney late at night, but it was really a shame as it was, because Disney USED to be like that all day every day. Still, late at night was better than not at all. Even Nick at Night used to be cooler. It started out with some REALLY old shows...
Yep, always loved the animated series based off movies (even non-Disney stuff, like all the Saturday morning shows based on live-action hits). Always excited to see more. I was very worried when Emperor's New School was being promoted though, because the preview ads they were showing for it were terrible! The animation was all chopped up and looked like it was done in a bad paint program. I don't know why, because the show doesn't look that way. What a relief it was to finally see the show, once I got used to the new voice actors that is...*grumble* Anyways, now I really like that show. It's really funny, like the movie.
Rescuers is a great subject for sequels and/or a series. They should take subjects like that and do more with them, stuff like Great Mouse Detective too, but I guess they don't consider them popular enough. I really LOVED Rescuers Down Under and actually like it better than the original.
