What Platinum Edition is Your Least Favorite?
For me, It's Cinderella since I really don't like that movie much. Plus the disc art was the worst disc art from Disney.

It's a tie between The Lion King. TLK didn't have a definite "Making-Of" and many bonus features were overlapped. I also didn't like TLK because the "Original" movie wasn't the "Original" movie that was said to be on the DVD. Characters, backgrounds, and even the opening to the movie was changed. I really don't like the bonus features that much either, and not just for the reasons I stated. It just felt like they were stringed together, and put on the disc anywhere and everywhere that they could be put.

I agree. I didn't even bother picking it up for a long time, and then I eventually rented it and decided not to support Disney's half-assed "Platinum" efforts on that one. Although the redone animation didn't bother me at all.TheSequelofDisney wrote:It's a tie between The Lion King. TLK didn't have a definite "Making-Of" and many bonus features were overlapped. Oh, sorry. I was going to put L&tT, but I decided that TLK was worse, and I guess I forgot to change my sentencelord-of-sith wrote:My least favorite is also The Lion King. They really could have done a lot more.

Talking about "bad movies" is pretty much irrelevant here I guess, so I understand this as a question about the DVD treatment. My least favourite would have to be The Lion King - first and foremost because of the way the supplemental materials were organized. It wasn't really the original version, either, but that could to some extent be said about other DVD versions as well.

Sad to say it, but The Lion King. I was overjoyed to have it on DVD, but I hated the DCCoS' involvement as well as the other fluffy kiddie features. They also left out the 1994 making-of special, which was hosted by Robert Guillame. (IIRC, it was broadcast on both ABC and the Disney Channel.)

Starting with The Lion King and going on to Lady and the Tramp and Cinderella i've been dissapointed.
All of these films seemed to be lacking in speccial features that seemed actually worth having. I mean i'd rather have a more in depth "making of" feature than something about football on the Cinderella dvd. The Lion King's layout was a disaster, and "morning report" is the most annoying song in the movie. If they were going to add a song i would've much rather had a redone version of "they live in you" to coincide with the "he lives in you" in The Lion King 2 and in the broadway musical. And Lady and the Tramp doesn't even feel like a platinum to me at all. the slip cover changed, the special features are almost all games, and even the cover art seems too average and not at all like it's something special like the feeling i got from almost all the other cover arts.
I'm really looking forward to the Little Mermaid, but i can't lie about being hesitant when compared to Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp.

I liked the LatT PE and the Cinderella one, too, although I have to admit I have NEVER looked at the ESPN Cinderella stories. I'm just not interested in that.
And the Discney Channel stars song was simply awful!!!
But I really liked the other bonus features of the Cinderella PE: the making-of, the "Cinderella, that almost was", the discussion, the 9 Old Men tribute... There was so much stuff on the DVD that I really liked.
I hope TLM is going to be a great!
But I kinda fear for 101 Dalmatians. I doubt there is too much stuff about that lying in the vaults. I hope it's not going to be too many kid's features and games. I'm a fan of making-ofs!

I hate the fact that the Lion King was pretty skimpy on bonus features, but I dislike the fact that neither Lady & the Tramp or Cinderella have commentaries (I know, big whoop-dee-doo). Nowadays, it seems that Disney wants to stop having commentaries for any of the older features. Hopefully 101 Dalmatians & Jungle Book will both have commentaries, or at least something similar to Bambi's.

Movie: I love all the films released so far in the Platinum range, as they're all worthy putting in a top 50 films list, but probably Lady and the Tramp. If we're including not yet released titles, then The Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty lose movie-wise, though that's not to say that they're bad.
Bonus features: Probably The Lion King. Whilst it had an audio commentary (unlike Lady and the Tramp and Cinderella
), the video bonus materials were far inferior to those of the other films. Plus a whole load of needless games and glorified commercials (Look, Disney films with animals in them! Look, Disney on Broadway! Look, a Disney animal theme park!).
Video: Probably Beauty and the Beast due to all the edge enhancement, yet fortunately, the Region 2 disc has less of these problems.
Menu:. Which is the worse Disney fate? Being turned into a donkey? Being poisoned by an apple? Being shot by a deer hunter? Or how about being made to sift through the dullness of the Lady and the Tramp DVD menus? Or perhaps trying to try and work out how to get through the menus on Disc 2 of The Lion King?
Cover art: Isn't the Lady and the Tramp cover art just...well...stupid?
Disc art: The disc art for Lady and the Tramp copies the style of the Region 1 DVD cover! Oh dear...that's bad news.
