Lion King DVD question

Post by cuzin_jawn »

Hi everyone,
I'm a new guy here, glad i found this site. I do have a question though about the Lion King dvd, and it is about a layer change, maybe. During the Special Edition of the movie at 11:33 and during the "theatrical" version at 10:49 into the movie, there's a slight pause. I think this is a layer change or something, but want to check. Does anyone else's dvd do this? None of my friends bought the dvd so I can't compare it to any elses. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey, welcome to the forum! I've heard that this is a universal problem, so while I have no intention of ever watching the IMAX cut with a new musical number...I believe this will be there, if I do. I think it's a branching change, rather than a layer change, but it should look just like that.

Hi cuzin.

That pause is really the layer change.

This dvd begins with two separated tracks, one with the morning report and another with the original version. after the layer change, your dvd will read the same track.

Ok

I got a pause also after the morning report section. Although it was slightly annoying it wasn't that big of a deal to me.

I haven't checked the "original" version yet for pausing. I'll report back later on that.

may be because your dvd makes the layer change too fast, that you don´t perceive the pause, but it exists.

Everybody get a layer change.

Since the disney movies are recorded in dvd9, in some moment of the movie it need to make a slight pause to change the layer. the newest dvd player don´t need to do this because have two independent readers of the disc, so when the frist layer ends, imediatlly the second beggins to be readed.

Some disney movies has all the movie recoded in the layer one, so it don´t have layer change (example: lilo & stitch, Latin R4 version).

OK

So, there are players that don't pause when the layer switch happens? What brands and models? I hate that lil pause on dual layer discs.

Basically they just have a bigger buffer, so are able to cache more data when reading off the disc. If the cache is large enough, they can still be playing from the cache while the read head moves to the second layer. This gives the illusion of no layer change.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

No!

The dvd will play well in any dvd player, but the old player will make a slight pause after the morning report song for change the disc layer.

I like a lot your avatar, remembers the flag of my country.

I think after 2002, at least, the majority of the players don´t makes more this pause.

Try test a dvd where you know the area of the slight pause:

The slight pause happes at this point of the movie, ther brazilian edition also change the font of the subtitles (it was a miss from the people of the authoring)
