Do you like the Nightmare Before Christmas?

I'm currently watching this for the first time on television as I write this (it is airing from 8 to 10 pm on Saturday in the States). So far, this is a very weird movie. Not sure if I'm suppose to like it.

What does everyone else think of this Halloween/Christmas/Tim Burton movie?

I've always wanted to watch it (because of Kingdom Hearts) but some idiot at my school has stolen the DVD.

i oove the nightmare before christmas what a wonderfull movie but heres the thing i never know what holiday to watch it on Halloween or Christams i usually watch it on Halloween but it takes place more at christmas time hmmmm

Loved it! Saw it when it first hit theaters, bought it on laserdisc, both the regular version and the super hoopty do box set and the DVD. Terrific movie!

Anything Burton does is top quality. This is such a great movie, probably my favorite Disney animated film of recent years (semi-recent). The entire atmosphere of the film works so well. It's really artistically refined and the set designs are so creative and emanate a dark and melancholy, twisted perspective of the character's mirrored reality. Even without a script, the overall aesthetics of the film are so strikingly expressive and unnusually picturesque. The songs are great and the stop-motion animation is simply amazing. The dvd is also one of my favorite Disney Special Editions, if not just for the bonus short, "Vincent".

I really like this movie. It's my favorite way to transtition from halloween to christmas! In fact, i just bought a long sleeve t-shirt that has jack and sally on the front of it from media play...

Not a big fan of it, myself. It's visually interesting, but I just don't like its story or tone. And for the record, I *do* like some things that Burton has done, I'm just underwhelmed emotionally by this and his Planet of the Apes remake.

I love it!!!! this movie visually is stunning, so creepy, so twisted, so beautyful....and the opening song is really great.

The nightmare before christmas SE dvd has several sketches and galleries, very well done.

Love this film! Classic Tim Burton - the Tim we knew before he became remake crazy (his next target - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with the very creative choice of Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka! Like Tim hasn't used Johnny enough before! Oy, vay...) Even though he wasn't intimately involved with TNbC, it still reeks very much of Tim Burton style. LOL
I'm currently on a Nightmare kick, in fact. I've been listening to the soundtrack a lot, and I'm loosely planning on going to next Saturday's midnight showing of it at one of my local indie theatres. To get into the season's spirit, I guess - and since it's the 10th anniversary, I thought it might be fitting.

Just hopin' there aren't too many weird cult fans that show up... O_o

Let's see. Tim Burton designs and storyline. Danny Elfman songs (and of course, Danny sings as well). Stop motion animation. A wicked sense of humour.

Yes I love this movie!

Like his Edward Scissorhands, this is a modern day fairy tale.

This is the sort of fairy tale Disney should be doing now. All new, relevant to today, but still with a strong moral at the end and a traditional fairy tale feel. I'd prefer more of these than Disney doing versions of existing fairy tales. I do feel this is what Disney needs to do - offer something new, but with an old Disney vibe.

From what I know about Brother Bear it will be the same. A new story, but with a traditional fairy tale feel.

I couldn't agree more. I am a very big fan of the Burton "look" (but like Luke, I have my reservations about 'Apes', but that is in part due to my huge fandom of the original).

Everything about this film is right up my alley - the humour, the design and even the music isn't annoying.

I remember seeing this on my birthday (if memory serves) of the year it was released, and everybody I went with hated it but me.

The SE DVD is a proud addition to my collection.

Burton complained after Apes, that the Studio system kept "Interfering" with his vision for Apes, and that as a result he would never work on a large, big budget studio film again. At one point he wanted to drop his name from the credits - a rather futile gesture as much of the pre-filming publicity was using his name.

And anyone who complains about the ending - that was the ending in the original book!

So of course, he signs on for Planet of the Apes 2!

I guess that must be Helena Bonham Carter's influence on him.

I think it's pretty good. Visually it's quite well done, the humour is decent and there are some good songs in there too.

I'll be watching this on DVD on Halloween while I'm ignoring all the little punks who come to the door

I like everything Burton's done, with the exception of Sleepy Hollow (I know, I know). That's right, I even liked his re-imagining of Planet of the Apes, and I own it on DVD

I'd probably rank it behind Ed Wood and Scissorhands (which are both superly brilliant)

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a brilliant film. It was originally conceived and produced by Tim Burton, but it was Henry Selick who gave us all of the stunning visuals, as it was Selick who directed the film. James and the Giant Peach was another Henry Selick film, and although not as visually-mesmerizing as TNBC, you can see many similarities in the style for both films.

Tim Burton often gets a lot more credit for TNBC than does Henry Selick, and I'm at a loss as to why. Without either of them AND Danny Elfman's (former front man of Oingo Boingo) excellent score, TNBC would be just another flick IMHO.

I believe he produced it, as with Nightmare, but his creative hand was not on it as much as Nightmare. As The Lizard King said, Burton conceived Nightmare, and may of the character designs. Of course, it was Selick - in close association with Danny Elfman and Burton - who actually carried the thing off.

I might watch that again tomorrow night actually...

do you liked planet of the apes more than sleepy hollow?!!!....wow, how twisted this world can be.
