Anyone remember M2M?
Back in the late 90's and early millenium, M2M was a world wide success. These two girls from Norway were one of my favorite groups. Now they are back as solo artists each with their own albums. My personal favorite is Marion Raven. She rocks. She worked with Max Martin, the man responsible for Britney Spears' success, and Nickie Sixx of Motely Crue. She is doing a duet with Meatloaf on his upcoming album. Her first single, "Break You" soared to number 1 in Asian countries and she has had two other hits off the album, "End of Me" and the title track, "Here I Am." She re-recorded the song "Heads Will Roll," which is one of the ones backed by Nickie Sixx, and is pushing that for her new marketing angle at an edgier fan base. To hear the new version, Click here to view the Marion Raven ecard!
To see the music videos for "Break You," "End of Me," and "Here I Am," follow this link: http://www.marion-raven.com/flash.asp You will find them in the media player section. If you are interested in joining Marion's street team, click here: http://marionraven.fanation.com/?C1692_513506
If you are more into lighter rock, I reccomend Marit Larsen, the other half of M2M. She hasn't branched out of Norway yet, but her whole album is in English and is wonderful. She has had two number one singles there: "Don't Save Me" and the title track to her album, "Under the Surface." She uses alot of natural sounding instruments and her voice is very pure. For more information on Marit, follow this link: http://www.maritlarsen.com/ You can see her music videos and hear clips from her album.
If you are wondering what M2M and Disney have in common it is this: They were introduced to American audiences half through their first single, "Don't Say You Love Me," being part of the Pokemon movie and half from a Disney Channel concert filmed at Epcot. The Disney Channel concert is how I got into them and Disney also played their music videos alot. Disney Channel helped boost their success in foreign countries as well. Check out Marion if you like rock and Marit if you're more into pop.

Oh yes. I'm a big M2M fan!
M2M were always criminally underrated. While it's true a lot of their music could easily be dismissed as simple "pop" they always had outstanding lyrics (and fantastic catchy melodies too)
You can hear about me getting Rav(e)n's CD here

It's true I was a little shocked at first - it all seems so grown up, but now all I can say is this album is absolutely fantastic! Every single track is quality. My favourite is "Six Feet Under" which is hauntingly beautiful, yet tinged with sadness. "End of the Day" and "Break You" have also enjoyed a dramatic reappraisal since my initial listening. If I had to pick one track that's weaker than the others, it would probably be "In Spite of Me", although I do enjoy the lyrics on this a lot.
M2M were good. Marion on her own is a 5/5 star act. One of the few singer/songwriters around today who deliver.
I would recommend this album to anyone. Shame most territories don't have it in release and have to import it

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
I remember M2M. I liked a few of their songs (Don't Say You Love Me, Mirror Mirror, Girl In Your Dreams, Pretty Boy, Give a Little Love, ok maybe the whole CD) and I had their CD. Haven't really heard about them at all for a while. I did find my copy of their CD a few weeks ago so I could add it to my ipod. Their voices sound really young to me.

Yeah, that's how I remember them! The Christmas around the time they were popular, my cousin sent me their CD from the Philippines (obvious bootleggoofystitch wrote:If you are wondering what M2M and Disney have in common it is this: They were introduced to American audiences half through their first single, "Don't Say You Love Me," being part of the Pokemon movie and half from a Disney Channel concert filmed at Epcot. I remember Disney Channel had all those concert series and helped a lot of stars get their name out to the tweens and teens. I think the first was LeAnn Rimes and they also had Backstreet Boys, *NSync, Britney Spears, Aaron Carter...there were lesser known ones now too like Samantha Mumba, Steps, and I think the Irish band B*Witched. Wow, I can't believe I remembered all that!

I just found out that Marion is planning a U.S. release of her album "Here I Am" for those of you who are interested. It would be cheaper to wait for that release rather than having one imported. Plus, according to her myspace, she will be recording some new songs for it. There are rumors that she has to re-record all of the songs seeing as she left Atlantic records due to distribution disputes. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but she definatley re-recorded "Heads Will Roll" to be released as her first U.S. single. You can hear it here: Click here to view the Marion Raven ecard!
There is still no word on Marit's album "Under the Surface" getting a U.S. release so if you can't wait like I couldn't, I reccomend importing a copy. However, I have my suspicions that her album will be released outside of Norway and possibly in the U.S. After all, both of her singles have become number 1 hits and she is on Virgin records, a large label with the power to back her internationally.

I remember M2M from when they were on an episode of Dawson's Creek, and I loved the song that they sang, so I kept it on my ipod along with like one other song (Mirror, Mirror and Everything).
I also remember Disney launching such artists as B*Witched, and I was always a big fan of theirs, I think I still have a video of their concert at Disneyland. Too bad they most likley broke up, they had some good songs.
I remember radio disney playing one of their songs and editing the heck out of it, and I could never understand why until recently when I listened to it again and figured it out.

If any of you are interested in Marion Raven, her music video for "Heads Will Roll" is out! A word of caution: I don't know why she did this, but there is some nudity in the video. If you don't want to see it, please do not follow the link! http://marionraven.fanation.com/?C1815_513506 Aside from the boob slips, it's actually a really good music video and I don't feel that the nudity is too distasteful, but I could have done without it.
Because she's European and its not really that big a deal over there?goofystitch wrote:If any of you are interested in Marion Raven, her music video for "Heads Will Roll" is out! A word of caution: I don't know why she did this, but there is some nudity in the video.

Sorry to bump this up again, but I just wanted to let everyone know that Marion Raven has a new song out... in the US! It's called "Falling Away" and it's being plugged as the first single off her full length US album, titled "Set Me Free." The album is also being released in Germany, the UK, and the Netehrlands this summer. Her music video is up on Youtube and you can hear her it at her official Myspace. She also released an EP in the US titled "Heads Will Roll" back in October and you can buy it on iTunes. It has an edgier sound than her normal music and two of the songs have "sex" in the title, but they are pretty good. I would rate the EP at 3.5 stars versus her 5 star album. She also recorded "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" with Meat Loaf which has gotten a lot of radio airplay in other countries, but has failed to find a market in the US. If you live in Canada or England, you can expect to hear her number one hit "Break You" hitting radio play pretty soon.

As for Marit Larsen, she is enjoying a lot of success in Norway and is finally releasing her music in other contries such as Italy. She was in the US on the 15th and did a show in Texas, so hopefully that is a sign of things to come. I recently discovered that you can now buy music from iTunes only released in other countries. By following the link, it will open your iTunes and ask if you want to switch stores. Clicking "yes" will take you directly to Marit's album where you can buy it without the expensive shipping charges.
