Here we go again with this money thing. Who really cares about whether the movie makes 10 million or 100 million? If you want to make a game of it take this thread to the games section where it isn't such a distraction to others who really just don't care.

It'll probably make a record. :)

I really think this could top Spider-Man's $114!

I'm guessing around $120. :)

HOLY GOD! PIRATES OPENING DAY+MIDNIGHT SHOWINGS = $55.5 MIL!!!

I've seen the film twice now, and don't plan on stopping.

Best mainstream flick of the year, anyone? ;)

I really think this thing is going to have legs and do real well over the long run. Despite the critics reviews, it seems the general public has been liking it. I hope this proves to be this year's Shrek 2.

Studio Estimates Are...

Post by ImTheElectricPanda »

$132,028,000 is what the studio is estimating. The estimates are usually off, give or take, a couple million, but this has undoubtedly become the largest 3-day weekend box office take in film history.

Okay, so that's THREE records beaten in the past few days of POTC:DMC -

Best Opening Day Box Office - $55 Million

Only Film to Reach $100 Million in Two Days

Best Opening Weekend - $132 Million

This'll probably get the "Fastest to Reach $200 Million", as well.

I thought this was a great film and it deserves these numbers. It did its job, working as an exciting companion piece to the first one, while whetting our appetite for "At World's End".

My dad and I decided at the last minute to see this film at a local theater at 11 am, instead of 12 pm. I'm glad we decided to go early because as we were leaving (at 1:45...yikes!), there was a HUGE line of people waiting to see PotC 2. The thing is that this is a fairly small theater...usually when my dad and I go there there are around 20 or so people watching a movie.

I'm happy that Pirates is making money, but it saddens me that it is breaking the records of better films. Spider-Man or Revenge of the Sith, it isn't.

Oh come on, this ran miles around ROTS... maybe not Spidey, but definitely better than Sith.

Argh!

Yes, POTC: DMC did break records but it doesn't mean other movies will break it's record...POTC: AWE and Spider-Man 3 will be crash of the top movie spenders for 2007...well Transformers has a chance of making more then $300 million.

I admit that I am excited for Transformers, but I am a child of the 1980s and grew up watching the show. Is the general audience really aware of this movie and willing to wait in line to see it?
