3 CABALLEROS + SALUDOS AMIGOS DVDs

Post by quasi72 »

Hi everybody,
I was going to buy these 2 dvds yesterday and I couldn't find them anywhere. I know that amazon and disneymovieclub have them. But i was wondering if you have heard of a new release of them soon or if they will not be commercialized for a while.
I wish they re-released them with many extras with South of the Border types of contents, and short films even documentaries and fetturettes of these films that were produced in the 40s w/ the purpose of the Good Neighborhood Policy.
Anyway, I am goin' to ask Buena Vista in a minute. I'll keep you posted about this. If you know anything, just give a little whistle!

Don't know anything about a rerelease of them. I really enjoy them though and watch them more often than most modern classics. I really enjoy early Disney and this stuff from the 40s is great. I'd love a rerelease although I don't expect demand for it to be high enough--I mean wasn't the dvd of Saludos Amigos the first EVER release of it. Also, I'm getting sick of double dipping. Come on Disney. How many times am I going to have to double dip in just the first few months of 2004--Alice, Lilo, Mary Poppins . . .

I wish Disney would put both of these on 1 DVD, along with any supplemental material they have. Maybe even make it a Treasure title.

I like both films very much... while "Saludos Amigos" may not be a classic, it's a simple and fun movie to watch, and it never becomes tiresome. While the first three segments resemble the ordinary Disney shorts, "Aquarela do Brasil" is a masterpiece... I mean, look at those gorgeous watercolors, and the theme song is one of the most beautyful Brazilian songs ever written. And of course, we have the starring of our (my?) beloved José Carioca (or Zé Carioca or Joe Carioca, as you wish).
"The Three Caballeros" is a daring film, much more than "Saludos Amigos". It is a technicolor stravaganza and it has the most feisty and colorful animated musical sequence ever to reach the screen (The Three Caballeros). I also love the graphic design of this film, specially those beautyful Mary Blair drawings.

As for the DVDs, I think it is almost certain that they will be released on SE DVD sometime in the future (Materpiece Collection, anyone?), since there are tones of bonus features produced for the past LD release. I just wonder when they are going to release it...

actually Disney could release Sauldos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, and all the shorts about Latin America as a Treasure. Make the sets about 3 discs. :)

It seems unlikely for them to do this with an animated classic as those stand alone. It is an intriguing concept though and I'm for it if we get more extras etc.

Both 3 CABALLEROS and SALUDOS AMIGOS are great films or should I say Shorts films. The first and second set of Latinos films. :donald:

quasi72 you should buy them at Amazon.com, because Best Buy, Costco and Wal-mart are all out. I was going to buy them both at Best Buy for $22.99 each but the next time I went they were gone.
:(
So now I bough them both on Amazon.com for 26.99. :D

I don't think Disney will re-relase both of them they are not in the value yet.

MICKEYMOUSEPAL, you're right, I might have to buy them in those stores. I went to Wal-Mart, since they were $14.95. I've seen them numerous times... but I waited a little too long...

Anyway, I am glad to see that some of you are interested in these titles. As soon as Buena Vista answers my email and questions in it, I'll let you know if they're planning on a re-release or any special edition w/ or w/out bonus features.

My fingers and toes are crossed. :P

i dont think that Disney would have any plans rereleasing the Latin America films as special editions. by looking at the first DVD and video release of Sauldos Amigos and Make Mine Music, i think that Disney doesnt care for the movies that were released after Bambi and before Cinderella.

Yeah, I agree Disney doesn't treat these movies as they deserve, but I do beleive we are going to see a Special Edition of SA and Caballeros in the feature, because both got deluxe treatment when they were released on LD. So, Disney has all the extras ready, they only need to transfer them to DVD.

Goofy smoking. The cigeratte has been removed (and also the animation of him taking a drag I think - instead they just replay the proceeding frames)

I can't remember, but doesn't Jose Carioca smoke in this? He certainly smokes (almost to excess) in one of the two films.

So editing Goofy's brief smoke seems like nonsense.

If Disney argue more children associate with Goofy, then why aren't they worried about children falling off roofs/skating down the road on a single skate/catapulting themselves into the air/walking along ladders over hundred foot drops etc. These are clearly shown in other Goofy shorts.
