"Friends" got bad way before that...I think actually when Chandler and Monica started seeing each other, or maybe up til the point when everyone found out. I preferred its earlier sitcom roots to the cliffhangers and dramatic romances.

Heh...I thought Friends got bad after about ten minutes in its premiere episode. I have never liked this show. Seemed to try and be too cute and cuddly at moments and just never all that funny to me.

Oh well.

I never really liked Friends, and even though it once had its moments for me, they have long since past.

I don't think Joey will be terribly good, as he was the least of the characters (after Phoebe I guess, who was a one joke character).

Actually, they were all one-joke characters....

Uhh, don't know don't care.... Never really watched friends much. But i have a feeling "Joey" will suck. For some reason people in hit comedies who have their own shows later bomb...

(example: Julia Louis-Dreyfus had a show after seinfeld called Watching ellie. I didn't watch it and i heard that nobody else did either. Unfortuante ? maybe or maybe not.)

Don't forget the other successful ventures of post-Seinfeld cast...

The Michael Richards Show:

8 episodes aired

Bob Patterson (starring Jason Alexander):

5 episodes aired

the two of them together aired less than "Watching Ellie", which lasted 16 episodes over a year.

Of course, this does have to its advantage the fact that Matt Leblanc will be playing Joey instead of trying to play a different character. I don't foresee successful sitcom careers in the future of any of the cast. A couple of them have made a couple of good movies, but most of those have been underwhelming, too.

I do not know why the studios try these spin-offs because the history shows that they never are any success.

The only show that may be called a spin-off with a success are Frasier, and that must be that it is so loosely based on Cheers, and it is ages ago since Cheers was aired that nobody was realy comparing those.

But there have been countless tryes on spin-offs and all failed.

Joey is sort of different to the Seinfeld actors shows because he's playing the same character.

It may suck. It may not.

Spin-offs can work - Frasier works. Angel is much better than Buffy ever was (even though most people refuse to watch it in America apparently), the CSI shows, the Law and Order shows, and of course: The Brady Bunch Movies (which I think of more as spin-offs - they're not remakes are they).

At least watch a few shows before making a judgement.

Also the Star Trek spin-offs have all been quite successful.
Many rate TNG above the original series, and DS9 (myself included) above TNG, and Voyager had a successful run too.
Let us ignore Enterprise...

I have watched many of the shows that you mentioned but i just didn't like them as much as the originals, it's MHO.
Sure, Angel is doing great but it's not excatly my cup of tea.
Brady bunch movies - please. Those were hard to sit thorugh.
Don't like fraiser, in fact i didn't like cheers either.
But i will agree with you on the CSI shows. Both of them are great and i watch them quite often.
I can't help but have a negative feeling when it comes to spin-offs. I don't know why but thats the way it is for me. I tend to hold spin-offs with certain expectations that they be somewhat as good as the original but i seem to be disappointed quite often.
It's really not a big deal, if this new Joey shows makes it great! If it doesn't then i won't be upset either.

i beg to differ. i watch friends religiously, but i don't see there being much of an interesting story line left to go with any of the characters.. the show so strongly pulls from all six characters equally that a spin-off with one of the characters just won't be able to go very far. i mean, they can't take the character of joey much further, especially so closely after the end of his original show. i'll give it a chance, but i don't have much faith in it lasting too long... but hey, maybe i'll be wrong

I LOVE FRIENDS, but find it hard to swallow that after 10 years he would just leave his friends and go to hollywood. I'll check it out but will yearn for pheebs, monicow, rachel, chandler, and ross.
