Doesn't say much more, but there's the article. Sounds like he was actually dead at the end of the ride. Scary! Makes me not want to try this out when I finally go to WDW. But then, who knows if it will be open two months from now and who knows if there's not some explanation from it (like a medical condition).

Yea, I saw this on CNN earlier today. The big takeoff from zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds or so really is something. I know I couldn't breathe during that part so I bet that really did something to him.

Hey Luke, I have went on the Aerosmith ride several times and I would not let this deter me from going on it again. It is a great ride. Thousands and thousands of people have went on it in the past. I would be a little more worried if the boy fell out of the ride or something like that. In my opinion, the worst ride at Disney is Mission: Space but I ride it at least once each time I go because my husband enjoys it.

I too had no problems on the Rock N Roller Coaster. Was a pretty tame roller coaster especially when compared to California Screamin.

I had no trouble believing somebody died on Mission Space. I can not explain how wrong my body felt on that one.

Wow... this is really surprising and really sad. I can't imagine the ride having that kind of an effect on a 12 year old boy. Cases like these are usually the result of some agitated medical condition, so that may very well be the case again. I must say I don't care for CNN's snide tone toward RnRC in that article or for the fact that the last line is misleading. I'll wait for the investigation's report to make any conclusions... it's a shame the media won't do the same.

I wouldn't worry about it being closed. It will probably stay closed for the rest of today but then re-open tomorrow. It may close for a few days in the near future for an investigation, but it will almost certainly be open in two months (unless it's just closed for some other reason, of course). Like danamichelle said, I wouldn't let this deter you.

This is very sad news. I feel very bad for the family. This has been one heck of a year for Disney. Next Friday my family and I will arrive in Disneyworld for vacation hopefully this ride will be open by then.

Yes, don't let this keep you from riding the ride. I think this is one of the best coasters at Disney World. I would bet money that this poor boy had a medica condition. That makes this even more sad because that is the main known reason people die on the coasters at Disney World. I just wish people would take their medical issues more seriously, then we could avoid stuff like this.

hmm...first major thing happening on that attraction, besides someone losing their artificial eye on it once- but it didnt shut down for that.

people keep in mind that thousands of people ride the attractions EVERY SINGLE DAY...& the once in a while tragedy that happens gets so much hype.

in the past few years- we've heard about a few deaths at WDW.....but lemme fill u in on a little bit of info...
People die all the time at wdw...but very seldom its attraction-related.
Dont let the media prevent u from having fun on your vacation.
for every 1 person that dies from an attraction- about 100 million are had the best time of their lives on the attractions.

my step-father is on first response/security @ the MK & he says sometimes u just cant get to them in time & it happens very often.
If he gets sent home from work early- its cuz someone died when he was called for emergancy response.
My mom says it happens way more often then she'd like to see cuz your heart does go out to the family...but alot of the deaths are caused by the persons personal long-going illness, heat stroke, heart attack, ect.


go on the attractions & have a good time. You are 100x safer at wdw then driving on the road in a car, playing football, or riding a bike.

I actually didn't have a single problem on Mission Space(not really sure why so many people get sick) or California Screamin'.

While I didn't have a single problem on Rockin' Roller Coaster either, I felt a little bit safer on the other 2 attractions than on that one, if just for that extra loop.

While I still feel bad for the boy and his family, I agree, 1 accident shouldn't keep anyone from riding it. A very fun(and cooly themed) coaster. If only it was 1 minute longer.

Yeah, after posting, I was thinking about that. In the end, I wouldn't let this decide if I went on it. I've gone on other Disney rides where people have died. What about all those thousands/millions who didn't die and had a great time? Still, if it's a ride I'm not set on going on (like Aerosmith) then I can rationalize skipping it by saying "I won't die from not riding it!"



That's good that the ride won't be closed longer. Hopefully, it turns out that Disney is not at fault and we don't have to worry so much.

"On the Record" on Fox News did a segment on it tonight... Greta called Mission: Space a roller coaster. Come on, Greta. I normally like you despite some political disagreements, but do some research. Or visit WDW every once and a while.

That is sad news, but I don't go on any rides like "Rock & Roller Coaster". Eventually, I don't really go on any roller coaster at all. I used to when I was a kid, but not anymore. The one roller coaster I don't go on is the Cyclone ride in Coney Island. That ride I don't go, but I'm not a roller coaster person.

The ride is open again today and a full inspection (following the initial one yesterday) says the ride was operating normally. The autopsy is being conducted today.
