Question about Disney Platinums...
Hey all..I dont know if this has been asked before but I know the last official Platinum release is The Jungle Book in Fall 2007, but I have heard bits and pieces of the line continuing with Pinocchio (sp?), Peter Pan, and Pochahontas. Does any one know if this at any point was confirmed by Disney or is it just the wishful thinking of the fans?

From the UK Disney website, yes, the line will continue. According to them, here's what the schedule is (although, I don't think it's been updated in quite a while):
March 2007: Jungle Book
October 2007: 101 Dalmatians
March 2008: Pinocchio
October 2008: Snow White
March 2009: Beauty and the Beast
October 2009: Peter Pan
March 2010: Sleeping Beauty
October 2010: The Lion King
March 2011: Fantasia
I think that this is no longer the right schedule any more though, due to the change in Peter Pan, as well as the switch in TJB and 101 Dalmatians. But this is the best schedule we have right now (that I'm aware of).
(Oh, and by the way, the 4 titles added to the Platinum list were Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, and Fantasia...not Pocahontas.
, although it now looks like Peter Pan may be taken off the list to be made in a SE for the promotion of the upcoming Tinkerbell movie...

Just look here on UD!:
And here is an almost updated list w/pictures (JBK and 101 need to be switched. JBK will now be in October, and 101 will be in Febuary):

Hope this helps!
As of right now Peter Pan was taken off of the Platinum Line and is going to be made into another Special Edition DVD around the same time as the new Tinker Bell movie will come out next year. A date for that has not been confirmed.UD Page wrote:The Platinum Collection was originally comprised of Disney's 10 best-selling home video titles: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Bambi, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians. In May of 2003, Disney announced they would be adding Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty to the Platinum Collection for a total of 14 titles.

Hate to bump this thread since this question never stops being asked, but actually now I can say something monumental!
Peter Pan is actually BACK on the Platinum Line for March 2007. Don't get excited in this thread, post in this one already started, thanks to lighthousemike:

Updated:

Apparently SW will be out again before we get too see Pinocchio. Which is a real bummer because I was hoping for Pinocchio to be released with 101 Dalmatians. I think that Disney should put all of the PE's out on DVD before they start putting them on Blu-Ray. I would think that SW and BatB would be released in '09 or something like that so they would be together. Hopefully I will have a Blu-Ray player, even though I am super content with my DVDs. Anyway, I hope this helps. Kinda sad that PP replaced 101, but I will live.

I have a feeling that in the end, "Pinocchio" will get a PE release before they re-release "Snow White" for it's second PE. However, if they aren't switched, I think it's kind of funny that the first two animated classics will be released consecutively. I think this is the first time that has happened on a video format.

I'd like to know this too. I need Snow White also. But I'm not going to buy a $500.00 Blu-Ray player for it.Nick Bryant wrote:After "The Jungle Book", will they start being released on "Blue Ray" discs? I don't have Snow White but I'm gonna get it when it's re-released, I just really hope it's on DVD because my whole collection is on that format and I don't want to have to start collecting Blue Rays.

Depends. There's the "format war" between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, with neither side winning nor losing (though HD-DVD has more titles on the market and cheaper players at the moment).Chrissy31886 wrote:This may be a stupid question, but I dont know a lot about blu-ray...is it ultimately going to replace DVDs??
I fear Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will essentially be what Laserdisc was to VHS: the more expensive and much better version of something that's pretty good and the majority of Joe Average's won't feel the need to get it.
With VHS, Laserdisc was for the cinephiles who wanted widescreen and extra features.
With DVD, which already have widescreen and extra features, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD offer higher video and audio quality, and somewhat more interactive bonus features (based on the review-preview i've seen for the enhanced conversation feature for Batman Begins, which probably explains why our standard DVD doesn't have commentary).
It's already beginning to look like a niche consumer product because it was introduced a little too soon and some people either don't care to upgrade, or don't want to after all the trouble they went to get their DVD collection to the size it already is.
So either way, whichever format wins, you'll hear crickets in the background or collective yawns all over the world.

Well, those new formats are after all just better versions of DVD, so I don't quite see why people cannot just continue their DVD collections buying their next additions in the better format (be it the one or the other or perhaps both). So it doesn't quite look like the VHS vs LD or VHS vs DVD situation IMO.
