What was the worst sequel or remake to a Disney film?
i think the worst sequels was 102 dalmatians. it was completely pointless and was probably only made so disney can make more money.
I quite like 102 Dalmatians.
Pros:
* A little bit more depth and character to Cruella DeVil.
* A much better performance from Glenn Close (no doubt because of a better script for her)
* Love Cruella's "Black and White" London hallucination
* I actually like Gerard Depardieu in this
Cons:
* That *!$#*! Parrot
* The male/female leads are a drippy and lifeless
* No Hugh Laurie
I think the worst sequel has to be D2 or D3, I can't remember which. Basically it was the same movie as the first one all over again.

You know how I feel about 'sequels' and 'remakes'.........too me, if they aren't the original they all suck, but there have been some pretty terrible ones lately.
"The Shaggy Dog" remake for one, was terrible, and complete waste of the talents of Tim Allen.
"Return of Jafar" was pretty bad because they couldn't get any of the original voices for it, and the storyline was pretty weak.
All of the "Mighty Ducks" sequels were retreads and very poor ones at that.
"Atlantis - Milo Returns" was absolutely horrid.
"102 Dalmations" was an abomination of a sequel..........what were they thinking?
Now a couple of the good ones were "The Jungle Book 2", even with John Goodman instead of Phil Harris as Balu. Then, of course, "The Lion King 1 1/2", and "Simba's Pride" - now I think that these were decent and well thought out sequels, and if the Disney people did more of this quality of sequels, they wouldn't be so bad.

It's not supposed to be as good as the first movie, because it isn't a sequel (not really) to the original movie. It's a movie for Lilo and Stitch: The Series, it wasn't intended to be a sequel for the originalPixarFan2006 wrote:also i really did not care for Stitch! the movie because it was not as good as the first movie.

I'm embarassed to admit that I once liked The Return of Jafar...when I was eight. I watched it about two and a half years ago to see if I still enjoyed it. I put the tape back in storage halfway into the movie.
Cinderella II was, to say the least, vomit-inducing, but I saw that coming. The most disappointing sequel was Simba's Pride. The summer of 1998 was devoted entirely to counting down the days until October 27th and hanging out at lionking.org's old message board. After a lot of anticipation, I was flabbergasted at how dull the whole movie was. I didn't care for the new characters. Our protagonists were a dimwit and a tool, the villain's backstory was handled clumsily. I liked Nuka and Vitani, but sadly they didn't get as much screen time as I'd hoped. As for the animation, the shading techniques looked cheap and established characters looked off-model, especially Simba. The animators were probably trying to age him and make him look more like Mufasa, but it didn't work. (The list goes on but I haven't the time.)

In terms of sequels to animated films, I'd probably say Belle's Magical World, if you even call it a sequel (essentially it's an unused pilot for an aborted Beauty and the Beast TV series). The characters that made the original so wonderful are reduced to one dimensional cutesy morons and the animation and art direction, even for TV/DTV standards of the 90s, is as repulsive as the screencaps of the film taken in Luke's review, looking like poorly done fan art of the art work from the first film.
I can't really think of any live action sequels or remakes that I hated (mainly as I haven't seen that many of them in a long time and I may have different views on them as an adult), but I can remember being a bit annoyed by The Parent Trap remake when I saw it on TV two or so years ago, mainly because it seemed to copy the original scene for scene. I also didn't like the ending for the Terry Jones version of Wind in the Willows (it was distributed by Disney in America under the theme park familiar title of Mr Toad's Wild Ride), as it seemed to destroy the bucolic atmosphere of the original book and spoil an otherwise very good film. In a similar way, I don't really like a lot of the Pooh sequel movies and merchandise, as they seem to distort the whimsical flavour of the original A.A. Milne books that the original featurettes of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and to an extent the TV series had.
Oh, and whilst I can see that it's mediocre in almost every single aspect, especially when compared to the original and even moreso in terms of continuity, I have to say that I didn't mind Cinderella 2 that much. Mind you, I was going through a sequel guilt-trip at the time I watched it (June 2005), and even then I doubted that I'd find the film entertaining on second viewing.

I know what you mean... I watched Return of jafar a while back, and I just couldnt stand how horribly animated it was!!! I mean HOW I could enjoy that movie when I was little is beyond me...Finchx0rz wrote:I'm embarassed to admit that I once liked The Return of Jafar...when I was eight. Though I must admit I quite like the songs "Nothing Like a Friend" and "Forget About Love"...

I've not seen D3 and only seen parts of D2 and I wouldn't say I liked it. But if I did, I wouldn't mind people speaking illy of them, FYI.MickeyMousePal wrote:Yeah he rocks...anyways don't say D2 and D3 suck because Luke likes those films...I think....
Generally, if ten years or more pass, the opportunity for a worthy sequel passes too. Bambi II was especially irritating in contrast to the original. But the failed-TV-series-episodes-turned-DTVs tend to be worse, like Belle's Magical World, Tarzan & Jane, and others I haven't seen.

My pick for worst sequel goes to The Hunchback of Notre Dame II for taking the feel of the original and chucking it out the window in favor of mindless cliched fluff, and Cinderella II for its disjointed episodic format (they didn't make it seem linked together at all...), the fact that it debuted 50 or so years after the original, and the fact that the voice of Cinderella in the sequel doesn't even come close to matching Ilene Woods.
And just because it's being maligned (with valid reasons)...
Haha, I am unashamed to still be a fan of The Return of Jafar, though I know it's not a great movie. I view it as part of the Aladdin television series rather than a movie in its own right (since it was originally planned as the series' first arc instead of a film) and it makes it a lot easier to enjoy...at least they tried to make the story flow so it feels like an extended episode of a cartoon series (rather than a choppy amalgamation of completely unrelated stories like Cinderella II and Belle's Magical World). Though if Jafar's song had been cut, that would have improved it a lot, too...
They did have most of the original cast, though...Dan Castellana replaced Robin Williams as Genie due to Williams' feud with Disney after the first Aladdin, Val Bettin replaced Douglas Seale as the Sultan...Seale passed away..., and Liz Callaway replaced Lea Salonga as the singing voice of Jasmine for reasons I don't know. Scott Weinger (Aladdin), Brad Kane (Aladdin singing), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), Frank Welker (Abu), Gilbert Gottfried (Iago), and Jonathan Freeman (Jafar) all returned.

1.Bambi II; it wins my golden razzie!!! The most boring and fake movie EVER!!! I couldn't stand watching it, I was pressing the forward button all the time!!!
2.TarzanII; same as above!!! Weren't they bored while they were making it?
3.101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure; poor Cruella! You were betrayed by the company that gave you birth.
4.Jungle Book II. Mowgli is not Aladdin and Shanti is not Mulan.Okay? Oh, and purple bears are out of fashion.
I loved the Aladdin sequels (why? Because of the whole "Arabian" thing), Notre dame II , Ariel II, Pocahontas II, Cinderella II, Mulan II, Atlantis II(very exciting adventures), Beauty and the Beast II. So, in general, I love sequels. I just want excitement, character development, new characters and something that makes me feel nice after the end credits.
