Grease: Rockin' Rydell Edition September 19

Post by Disneykid »

It's about freaking time we got this. DavisDVD is reporting a September 19th release for Grease: Rockin' Rydell Edition. I usually hate those type of film-specific titles for DVD editions, but I have to admit that I like the one they've chosen for Grease. Here are the specs:

* Introduction by Randal Kleiser (0:21)

* Audio Commentary with Director Randal Kleiser and Choreographer Patricia Birch

* Rydell Sing-Along
Choose from all the major songs of the film. A graphic of the song's lyrics keys over the top of the film with text that highlights with the music. Pick individual songs from the menu or watch the entire movie in sing-along mode.

* The Time, The Place, The Motion: Remembering Grease (22:23)
* The Moves Behind the Music (08:11)
* Thunder Roadsters (05:19)

* Grease on DVD Launch Party (15:10)
A collection of memorable moments from the 25th Anniversary DVD launch party, including footage of the film's stars

* John Travolta and Allan Carr Grease Day Interview (01:45)
* Olivia Newton-John and Robert Stigwood Grease Day Interview (02:03)
* Grease Memories from John and Olivia (03:21)

* 50s Beauty School 101 (06:44)
A 'how to' piece about those fabylous 50's hairstyles featured in the film. A split screen will show the finished hairstyle on one side, and a hairstylist re-creating it in a 'how-to' format on the other side

* Soda Jerk Specialties
A 'how-to' featurette about those soda fountain treats of a bygone era. We'll have a soda jerk demonstrate how to make those old fashioned soda shop favourites like ice cream sodas, egg creams, malts and banana splits

* Lets Go To The Hop
A re-creation of a 1950s sock hop, with a choreographer showing 6-10 couples how to do dances like the Stroll, the Hand Jive and the Lindy Hop

* Cool Cars
A featurette about fans of 1950s car culture. We'll follow a car aficionado as he restores a classic and takes it to a local diner's 'carhop' night to show it off

Deleted and Extended Scenes (09:11)
* Introduction by Randal Kleiser (00:13)
* T-Birds Harrass Eugene (00:33)
* Classroom Announcements (02:32)
* Pink Ladies and Sandy at Lunch (00:40)
* She's Too Pure to Be Pink (00:41)
* Intro to Summer Nights (00:15)
* Rydell Pep Rally (00:54)
* Kenickie and Danny Outside Frosty's (00:31)
* The Stroll (00:19)
* National Bandstand (01:09)
* At the Dance (01:17)
* Thunder Road (00:07)

* Photo Gallery
* Theatrical Trailer (01:55)

Wow, this is pretty exciting!!! One of my favorite live-action films of all time! I hate to say it, but the thought deleted scenes and commentary are enough for me to double-dip. :D

"You're the one that I want....Ooh Ooh Ooh, Honey!"

I'm so excited that this is finally getting the treatment it deserves. I have the first release only because I had to have it in widescreen, but I have to admit, between my 6 year old and me watching it, it's about worn out. I will definitely be double-dipping for this classic. Yay!!! :D

Oh, man I just got the single disc used at EBgames for $9.99 but I'll still get this new edition.

I really hope this new single disc will have Karaoke.

Yes!! Finally. I have been holding off on buying Grease for so long because I knew this had to be coming eventually. It's one of my favorite movies and it will be nice to finally add it to my collection. It's been hard not giving in to the great prices I've seen it at.

I am getting REALLY sick of these names for the special editions of movies such as Ferris Buller and Airplane! (which i own). I have never really sat all the way through Grease just bits and pieces.

Great, considering I own nothing of Grease except an old VHS tape.

Hopefully these new features will be worth it.

I'm hoping Paramount had the time to actually remaster the film for DVD, audiovisual wise. The picture was grainy and dirty, and the audio never really kicked in (save for the songs). If they didn't do anything to improve either the picture quality or the audio, I'm skipping out.

Me too Tabbi! Wasn't there a bonus disc or something? I will also be picking this up, as I've said, I only have the VHS (like Tabbi's). I've been waiting forever for this movie to come back out, because I missed the first time, and since then, I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I'm so happy! I need to make a mental memo - Your the DVD that I want.... Ooh ooh ooh, Honey!

No one really knows, yet, but the re-release is including both 5.1 and stereo mixes while the old DVD only had a so-so 5.1 track. Hopefully this means that a) they've gone and cleaned up the soundtrack and b) if they took the time to clean the soundtrack, hopefully they did the picture, too.

I've been holding out on owning Grease for a long time, so I'm happy to see this FINALLY announced. I'm surprised it's not a 2-disc release (this is Grease we're talking about), but the inclusions certainly have great potential. I, too, am hoping for restored video and audio.

I know, they should really just pick one and stick with it. Special Collector's Edition worked fine. They're just doing it to get attention. But it seems desperate.

If it's enough of an upgrade from the craptastic DVD I have now, I'll be all over it.
