Do you collect all Disney DVDs? Even if...

I was curios about something do you guys buy even Disney movies that you don't like or extremely hate? I mean, say that you hate The Sword in the Stone, would you buy it only to complete your collection or would you skip it because you don't like it?



I personally collect all Animated Classics even the ones I don't like, like Hercules - Treasure Planet. I don't necessarily collect sequels only the ones I enjoy like The Rescuers Down Under.

well, I personally love every single disney classic, some more than others but still like them all....I don't colect sequels cause all the lack of qaulity we know, but "rescuers down under" it's a different movie, it is an official classic and its well done.

Yes, I collect all the classics, and even if I didn't like one, I would buy it to complete my collection. I mean, I like all the Disney classics, none of them is bad... of course, some of them are weaker than the others, but even the weakest of them can entertain a fan like me.

But like Pher, I dig all the classics so they definitely get bought. I notice a lot of people on these boards seem to get a little compulsive though, buying dtv sequals of bad television movie remakes with teenage pop girls... Air Bud 3, Lizzie McGuire, eh...

For the classics, yes I would purchase the ones that I considered were not good just to complete that collection. Personally, i just got through watching Salados Amigos the other day (i purchased it at Wal-mart for 14.44) and if it wasn't a classic, i would have never brought it in the first place. I didn't like the back and forth from real people to animation and the breaks in the story. Right now, that movie is the lowest on my list of Disney movies....even Cinderella 2 beat it out.

I won't pay full price for some of the classics and am waiting until they are cheap and can get them for less than 15 or 10.

I collect all the classics in animation. I don't have them all yet, because in some cases I am waiting for a decent DVD release. 2cd sets, that means. Some of the ones I don't have yet and I will get soon are the following:
-Rescuers
- " Down Under
- Sword in the Stone
- Robin Hood

And no, I don't have any s---quels, except those that became classics, such as the great Fantasia 2000. No Mermaid 2, King of thieves, lady+Tramp 2 or Lion King 2. No, no, no.

I learned a long time ago that the best (and healthiest) way to collect something is to collect what you like. That way, by spending the money and owning the product, you still gain something even if it does not go up in price or rarity.

Still, I think I like all the Disney animated classics and I would buy any of those DVDs. Of course, the better the packages and extras, the more likely I will purchase them. I'm not obsessed with getting all of the DVDs released in the Gold Collection because there are not many of those that just scream, "Own me!" to me. But, say like The Rescuers (a movie I am not fawning over, but admire), I would purchase if/when it was made into a Special Edition.

Not the live action classics are a different matter. There is only one live action Disney film that I am currently interested in owning at the moment (The Cat From Outer Space) and that is really only because of childhood affections.

the most important thing when I'm collecting this movies is because they remind me of my very happy childhood, and all the things that happened to me on that era, so movies like "three caballeros" is more a "has to be in my collection" movie for me, than for anyone than just saw it once or never saw it at all. As a kid I saw every movie lots of times!!!!

Yeah, I'm going to collect all the Platinum Titles even if I hate The Jungle Book. The ones I'm really looking forward are Bambi, Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I buy ALL Disney releases. All of them. Some I have never seen (and hope to one of these days), some I really didn't like but as a completist collector, I feel I have to have it. But-I don't venture into the Touchstone area-I stick mainly with Disney/BVHE titles. It's a fun hobby-I am a collector by nature. My collection is complete as to what has been issued up to this date.

i'm with you wdwleesa. i don't think it's impulsive or anything...i just love buying any disney dvd i can find. however, i'm one of those people that has to get the best edition available. upgrading to a 2 disc set is not a problem for me. if it's a disney cheapquel or something i know i won't find much interest in, i'll buy it BEFORE i see it, just so that i won't feel so bad buying it later when i really know it sucks. i have a rather large collection now and i'm sure it's because of my selection habits, but it's nice to go to my dvd rack and have a large selection of disney dvd titles to choose from.........

If it's one of the 40+ Animated Classics, I will own it eventually.
Direct-to-Video sequels are not a priority, although I have purchased LK2, LatT2 and TLM2.

Other than that I simply ignore those Disney films I have no interest in. There are a lot of Live-Actions I'd like to pick up, but a whole lot more I will never spend a dime on.

Personally I would only buy something I liked. But I'm not just buying just for myself, if my wife or the kids like something I will also buy it, since at this point it is cheaper to buy than to rent repeatedly, plus you can always sell later.
But, between what I like, and what the rest of the family likes, we pretty much have the whole thing covered.

I also buy stuff just because I like it, regardless of whether the rest of the family hates it though. But if I really hate something, I'll refuse to have it around the house. I wanted to get rid of the Dinosaur (for example) DVD since it is such a non-film in my opinion, but the wife said the kids DO like it, so I guess I'll keep it around for a little while longer.
A film like Black Cauldron I would just not get, since I could spend that money on something else which I would consider worthwhile, my list of must-gets is still not done, I still have plenty of stuff I wanna get, but am hesitant to spend the money all at once (I'm not rich, you know).

I tend to be choosy about which DVDs I buy, so I will buy the ones I like (unless it's a "must-have" DVD).

Occasionally though I goof up (like buying the GC Alice on New Years' Eve 2002 and now realizing there's a SE Alice in 2004...)

Eventually I want to own all of the Disney animated classics on DVD and/or HD-DVD, and I find something to like in all of them even if they're not all my favorites.

Aas far as cheapquels go, the only DTV sequels I plan to buy on DVD are The Lion King 1 1/2 and The Lion King II. Some non-sequel DTV stuff is okay too, like I have Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year and have toyed with getting Mickey's House of Villians, for example. I'll also upgrade DuckTales The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp whenever that one comes and Gargoyles will be mine too.

For live-action and catalog titles, I buy the ones I like and don't buy the ones I don't like.

When it comes to my money (which i have very little of most of the time) i tend to buy things that i know i will want to watch several times. I plan to buy all of the animated classic except Make Mine Music, Melody Time, Saludos Amigos, and Three Caballeros (i haven't seen these movies yet). I refuse to buy something blind b/c i won't take the chance of me hating it and i definitly can't afford to waste my money on something i will never watch.
Sure, there are those of you who buy everything for collectors's sake, and thats cool. I would like to be able to buy whatever i want but i'm a college student with a small part time job. I am broke in other words!
I do hope someday to be able to have a large disney DVD collection but until then i have every disney classic released (minus those above) and a about 10 live-action films.
