Favourite Dark Ride

One of the things that I enjoyed the most were the 'dark rides'.

I'm not necessarily talking about the big 'E ticket' dark rides - such as Pirates or Haunted Mansion - but those smaller ones in Fantasyland and so forth that might be simple, but are incredibly well designed. A personal favourite, for example, is Peter Pan's Flight. It is pretty much a track pulling a vehicle past sets, but it is imaginative and fun.

This list is probably not all-inclusive, but I've tried to cover as many as possible from Disneyland and WDW. For the latter, I'm mainly gone for the Magic Kingdom attractions, as I am not as familiar with the other WDW parks.

I've added Other for anything I've missed. I've pretty much stuck with the 'classics' though.

Past rides are also not included.

A lot of these are DL exclusives and thus don't apply to me, but my favorite from WDW's <i>Fantasyland</i> is probably Snow White's Scary Adventures. If I were to consider other lands, however, then Haunted Mansion might tie with it.

I think Peter Pan's Flight will always be my favorite, but the other dark rides I have been on come awfully close, especially the Disneyland-exclusive Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio's Daring Journey. Heck, they all knock my socks off!

I left things like HM and Pirates off, largely because they would dominate the polls, but also because I was going for the more traditional DR.

I noticed that Magic Kingdom does have a couple of those Fantasyland rides, but feel free to select "Other".

Also, if you wanted to list some of the WDW dark rides, that would be helpful too please.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!!!

Where else at Disneyland can you go through dyamite, crash into houses, and end up in hell?

Shame it's not in the Magic Kingdom anymore. They should've gotten rid of the boring Peter Pan or Snow White instead.

WDW's Fantasyland doesn't have any exclusive dark rides, I'm afraid.

Ummm...where is the choice for "Other"?

I think the only WDW dark ride you didn't list that is not an old attraction is Dinosaur, but since you're not counting HM and PotC, then that's okay. I really love Dinosaur. It's thrilling for me every time!

Now that I think of it, maybe The Great Movie ride is a dark ride? I'm not sure...does dark ride only mean a vehicle going through scenes or does it have to have fluorescent paint and all that? Hmmmm.....

I voted for Peter Pan because I really like that we're "flying." I like the Disneyland version better though because the Flying over London part is bigger and really cool despite the obvious curtains of the night sky.

I voted for Toon Town, We went on this one 5 or 6 times when we went, I liked them all. Except for the Alice in Wonderland one which was lame. Monsters Inc. Was not open in November when I went so I cant count that

All the ones that I have been on are good, but I've always been the most partial to Pinocchio's Daring Journey (there's a Disneyland Paris equivalent called Les Voyages de Pinocchio). Sadly, I've never personally rode the Roger Rabbit, Winnie the Pooh, Monsters Inc, Toy Story or Alice in Wonderland dark rides, but I've watched videos of some of these rides on the internet.

Well the discussion has primarily been about Fantasyland attractions. If you open it up to the other parks, you get Journey Into the Imagination, Spaceship Earth, El Rio Del Tiempo (to some extent), Ellen's Energy Adventure, Maelstrom (to some extent), The Great Movie Ride, and Dinosaur (to some extent).

Doesn't explain why Monster's Inc., Roger Rabbit or Buzz Lightear were included though.

I really think Loomis was trying to get "simple dark rides" LIKE the ones at Fantasyland.

I've never even been on my favourite (only on video). Roger Rabbit would be my choice, with Peter Pan being a close second.

Pooh's Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland is the best Dark Ride that I have ever been on.

I think some of us have the definition of a Dark Ride a little confused.

It was really hard for me to choose between Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Peter Pan's Flight, but in the end I went with Peter Pan. I like it because I like feeling like your flying and looking down at the city.
I love Mr. Toad because when I was little it scared me when it got so hot like you were in hell and those special effects were just cool to me.

I love the Peter Pan ride. I think some of this is because I think it is a perfect little movie. I really appreciate the detail of London when you get to fly. I love to see Captain Hook as well.

I think that Mr. Toad would be toward the top of my list (maybe at the top) if I could remember it a little better but it left the Magic Kingdom a long time ago. I think it is only appropriate to have a ride for Mr. Toad. I wish they built Winnie the Pooh in a separate place. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think they altered the track at all for Winnie the Pooh. I think they only changed the scenery and the vehicle.

Snow White is a cool ride. The Imagineers did a good job of creating a scary atmosphere. I love it when the witch turns around at the beginning--it's really cool.

I would love to go on the Pinoccio ride and the Alice ride but they don't have them here. Does anyone know why those rides weren't included in Florida?

I believe it was a matter of not wanting to make WDW's Magic Kingdom a complete clone of Disneyland and also available space.

I read in a Jim Hill article (so it may not be totally true) that another factor why the Alice in Wonderland ride wasn't included as they felt that the film was already well represented at the new park (after all, there were the teacups and an animatronic stage show at the time had a Wonderland section). It may also seem interesting (I found this out on a Disneyland Paris website, I should add) that the original plans for Fantasyland in Florida were not to have dark rides centering around Snow White, Peter Pan and Mr Toad but Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins and Ichabod Crane...

As for the Pinocchio ride, it wasn't added to Disneyland until 1983...

Had me confused there for a second...
at WDW- they use the term DARK when an attraction is going to close.

In the Tell-A-Cast it would say which attraction(s) would be next to go DARK.
Usually it would read something like this:
"Doug Live is going DARK as of Nov 2, 2001. Be sure to tell park guests to visit the gem of a show one last time before it goes DARK permanently."

but in this case & term- I'd say my fav is Dinosaur & Journey Into YOUR Imagination.
