Cars: The World Premiere - Report From the Red Carpet

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Thanks to UD, I was able to attend the world premiere of <i>Cars</i> this weekend and talk to all the stars on the red carpet. To read a full review of the event, complete with quotes, pictures, and even a 2 minute video montage, this just click here:

Too bad you found the film dissapointing... Great report though. awesome job!

I seriously can't wait for this film. I'm looking forward to it more than any previous Pixar film... hope that doesn't result in me being dissapointed.

It sucks to hear that Cars wasn't good. But I bet it was cool meeting the cast and crew of Cars! Thanks for the review Aaron.

Wow, I didn't think it was possible, but Aaron has made my excitment DROP even more. In fact, the ONLY part that makes me want to see this movie is the fact it has the Disney name on it. Really, that's how excited I am about it.

But it was still a good report Aaron. My favorite picture:

Awesome! Thank you Aaron for this report! Great read. I can't wait to see what you think of Cars, since you are the first I've read to be disappointed by it.

First, I must admit that Aaron has seen way more movies than I have, especially Disney movies. Also, I haven't seen all the Pixar movies either, still need to watch Nemo and Bug's Life. That being said, I thought Cars was a good movie. The animation was phenominal, the voices were really good (Larry the cable guy made the movie for me) and the story was a typical disney feel-good story. Why I think I enjoyed it more than Aaron is because I am a NASCAR fan, and the movie is really geared towards people who are familiar with the sport. Additionally, I am a big fan of movies where a young hot-shot learns lessons from a wise vet., like my favorite movie, Bull Durham. Hopefully people won't walk away disappointed, but if you are not a fan of cars, NASCAR and things like that, it may be possible.

I've already told you this a bunch of times, Aaron, but grrrrreat job on this report! A wonderful read (full of vicarious thrills) and the video montage literally rocks my socks off. Your cool reaction to the film has me worried, but it might just lower my expectations enough to appreciate it verily. Anyway, I wish I didn't have to wait another 11 days to see it, but waiting can be fun too. And this report definitely gave me a neat <i>Cars</i> fix.

And since you posted at the very same minute as me and I know you are reading this thread...great camera work, Adam! The pictures were awesome. Juggling everything would have been a tough task for one and I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.

Thanks to both of you for representing the site in a major way!

Thanks for your opinion TurdBizzler, I defentiately know one of my uncles, and cousin's will like the is movie a lot. Uncle sells Car's and Cousin actually daughter to my uncle watches Nascar a lot.
But for Me Hopefully i can enjoy it as much as I did the Toy Story's and Monsters Inc. since this doesn't seem to have the Incredible feel to it besides being made by the same company.

If you don't mind my opinion...I went to the premiere last Friday night too, and it was a blast overall. Got my pictures with Bob Iger and John Lasseter, as well as autographs! :) Which I can post if you want me to I guess. But anyway, I have mixed feelings about the movie Cars itself. Starting with a positive note, the animation was amazing. Seriously, unbelievable. In my opinion, it was the best-animated Pixar film yet. As far as story/entertainment level goes, it was my least favorite of the Pixar's. That's not to say it was bad, but it was slow, and was what can kind of be described as a nice neat package film with a pre-scripted story. This is simply my opinion of course, and please don't let me discourage you from seeing it. When you compare a movie to Nemo and Incredibles, that's a tough standard to beat. It was a fun, simple film, with decent characters, great voice actors, and stellar animation. People there loved Mater. I mean loved him. And he was a funny character, no doubt about it, but jokes were done seemingly more for kids and Larry the Cable Guy fans than the full age spectrum, as with Toy Story and the like. I'll stop rambling, but to sum up things nicely, it was well made, decent story, not the best, but Pixar deserves a chance from everyone as they have indeed earned it, and I suggest you see it.

I was there too and it was amazing - but . . .

I have to disagree about the film - it was wonderful and I'm not a race/nascar fan. It had fun, excitement, action, heart - one of the best from Pixar. Aaron, I'll be interested to read your review to see just what let you down.

I gotta say that it was a great evening and a fun film that I plan to see again. EVERYONE be sure to stay through the credits! (As always)

Well from the very first second I heard Pixar were doing a film about Cars I had my doubts. Those doubts continued to grow when the first pics and teaser trailers started to appear. Every time something new related to the film was given to us my excitement dropped to a level of unimaginable indifference. I have to admit when i saw the proper trailer for the first time i did gasp at some of the beautiful backgrounds, but that's hardly likely to save the film for me!

After Aaron's comments it looks like the final nail in the coffin as far as my excitement goes. All my worst fears about it being yet another buddy movie from a mould which is already growing old appear true.

I think I'll wait for DVD to see this, and when I say that I mean when the DVD is dirt cheap in about 2 years time.

However the Pixar name will probably still carry this at least to the $200 mil mark.

Excellent review, Aaron! Man, so it really was as bad as everyone expected it to be...

Timon/Pumbaa Fan will be thrilled!

I was watching a voice cast featurette on Yahoo.com and that gave me the impression that fans of NASCAR would undoubtedly enjoy it most, but from the review, it looks like NASCAR fans will be the only ones who enjoy it period. That's really a shame for me, since I was one of the few who really thought PIXAR would prove everyone wrong and make it their best film yet.

Geez, innuendo, pop culture references, casting celebrities just for the hell of it; I honestly never thought PIXAR would resort to that. I'll still go see it to see for myself, but I don't really imagine it being all too different from what you said, Aaron.

Oh, and one part of your review struck me like nothing else:
In his awesome review, Aaron wrote:Innuendo, though mild it may be, makes its Pixar debut here, as do gas jokes (and not the kind you might expect from the title).
F-Fart jokes?! Don't you just hate that feeling where you can feel pieces of yourself dieing inside you?

It's a shame you had to spend so much time and effort reviewing a movie you didn't enjoy, but I'm sure glad you did. Great review.

I kind of feel obligated too see this because of the great work that Pixar has done in the past... I know that's weird..

The movie opens here in Australia on June 08, so I guess I will find out next week for myself if I agree with the first reviews.

I am going into it with fairly low expectations, but hopefully it 'might' surprise me.

I just HATE fart jokes, some are funny but they aren't respectable enough to be in a Pixar film.

Thanks for the review Aaron. I'm glad you enjoyed the premiere at least. But maybe this "failure" will be good for Pixar, because now the pressure that they are on a roll of success is gone.

Edit: Hey Aaron, did you like A Bug's Life?

First of all, thanks for the report and the review, Aaron. I really appreciate it.

Second, to those reading the review, this is just Aaron's opinion. It doesn't mean you will feel the same way. The best way to judge the film is to go experience it for yourself. While Aaron is not impressed, a great many of the reviews I've read for the film say it is a good film, and worthy of Pixar. Maybe, maybe not. Who is to say? Only you, yourself, can decide this. So, go out and see it!

Well said, MMO. While I repect Aaron's opinion, I am still 'preparing to be floored' by Cars. Got my midnight show tickets ordered last night. This makes midnight show number five for the summer (along with M:I III, X Men, Superman and POTC).

Good review but I need to say I totally desagree with the opinion about the movie.

I saw it to the french premiere the 11th May 2006. The movie it's the best Pixar movies full of heart, of soft comedy and a very personnal vision of John Lasseter. Far better than Finding Nemo and the Incredibles. I thought they were heartless. With Cars, I almost cry.

I made a review (unfortunatly for you in french http://www.zuzudisney.com/index.htm?/an ... 6-cars.htm ) in my web site but I'm not very good in English to tranlate it. But I want to say one thing : dont look at the trailer which is very bad and run to see Cars which is an instant classic, a wonderful masterpiece !!!!!!
