how many DVDs do you buy a year?

Post by Lady »

just out of perverse curiousity, how many DVDs do you expect you'll have bought for 2003? I'm massively going broke as I feed my addiction to Disney DVDs. . .*groan*

Let's see, so far I've bought:

X-Men 1.5
Kiki's Delivery Service
Spirited Away
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Treasure Planet
A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition
Daredevil
Chicago
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition
Singin' in the Rain: Special Edition

And I plan to buy:

The Lion King: Platinum Edition
The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones
The Hulk
Finding Nemo: Collector's Edition
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers-Extended Edition
X2: X-Men United
Pirates of the Caribbean: Collector's Edition

That makes 19 titles, which is nothing compared to some folks here on the boards.

um let me see. approx 2 a month but sometimes I go ballistic and get more. Disney movies are one a month at the moment because of cash flow.....

I started purchasing DVDs in August of 2000 and in the first year I had probably 100. I've slowed down dramatically since then and curently own around 150 or so. So...maybe 1 or 2 a month at the most.

I've come into the posession of approx. 26 DVD releases since the beginning of the year. Although there are plenty more I would have liked, it's still not that bad a number. There are approximately the same number of must-have new release discs between now and the end of the year.

This year's been pretty slow for me, in spite of what seems to be an increase of titles that interest me.

"Slow" still means about 60 DVDs though. I went crazy with the awesome January Columbia House deal, got 15 titles from that. Did some trading through the now-defunct Skinnyguy.com, got some freebies from FreeDVDs.com, a couple of freebies from Mail-in offers, a small number of bargain purchases, and some recent TV boxset and must-have purchases this fall.

You must understand that I'm incredibly frugal when it comes to buying DVDs. I've been renting more this year than ever before...and many of those have been free rental trials or free library rentals. You kind of have to be frugal in pursuing such an expensive hobby when you don't have very much money.

This year I only got a few new DVDs:

The Rescuers (Of Course!!)

Sleeping Beauty (Had to own this!)

The Lion King (Need it if I want all of the PEs)

Peter Pan SE (Upgrading from that horrible Limited Edition)

Pinocchio (Not a proud owner...)

The Black Cauldron (One of the very few Disney movies I had never seen...)

:) :) :)

No, it isn't too good to be true. I use a separate e-mail account for that one (and a few other things), and it doesn't really get junk e-mail at all, surprisingly. The occassional offer from them, but not from other places.

I was able to get The Third Man Criterion, Cheers S1, Treasure Planet, Gremlins SE, Amadeus, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea from them...for like maybe a few bucks at most - and maybe not even that. I pretty much did all the magazine subscriptions that you can cancel and get a full refund (you still get some of the magazines sometimes)...those rack up a lot of points, though I'm not sure if they're still around.

Anyway, if you decide to sign up, you can use this link and I'll get 10 points:
http://www.freedvds.com/default.aspx?referer=1472284

(Woopty-doo, I'll be over 100 :))

Anyway, all the magazines, Bargain.com, Car-Buying-Online, eBay, Matchmaker, Psychics4Free, WinAnyLotto...those are all good ones. It's probably adviseable to use a one-time charge number with most of these places, or if you have a Webcertificate with just a few bucks on it. Anyway, all those DVDs for free...pretty nice. Oh, the Columbia House TV Greats club too. Got a cheap DVD and the points which led to another freebie.

I realized I didn't answer my own question. So far I've bought 10 DVDs this year and have 4 more to buy for a grand total of 14. I guess I was being melodramatic. I guess I average a little over 1 DVD/month.

Hmm...this year I've bought

--Sleeping Beauty SE
--Roger and Me
--Bowling for Columbine
--Dark Angel: The Complete First Season
--Into the Maelstrom...I actually don't have this in my possession yet, but I ordered it on Amazon a few days ago, and I should get it within a month. (It sucks not having your favorite childhood series on DVD season sets.)

I must have a pretty tiny DVD collection, because I only have 14 DVDs and only 1 DVD set bought in the past two years (the 14 DVDs include SB, Roger, and Columbine, but not Maelstrom or DA:CFS.)

I'm a sucker for DVDs....especially the Disney ones of course ! :)

I try to not buy more than 2/month....if I skip a month, I usually make up for it the next month.

Of course my DVD addiction doesn't come cheap, so when I know titles that I want are going to be released soon (of course I come to Ultimatedisney for the info)........I get really stingy w/ my cash. Confession time
For example, I usually go out to grab a bite to eat during lunch for work....... a few dollars here and there and by then end of the week this really adds up. So usually I will force myself to bring something from home...scraps or left-overs.

So let's see.... off the top of my head my short-term wish-list includes.....

Scarface (already out)
Indiana Jones
Finding Nemo
Santa Clause 2

Hmmm......I guess I will need to start packing my lunches pretty often for the next month. But it's a small price to pay for such a rewarding feeling when I sit back and watch my "babies" on my widecreen :D
Love watching my "babies" on my wide-screen :)

I buy every disney release excluding sequels, non-anamorphic and P&S catalogs.

Then i buy non disney stuff which is the other 40% of my purchases so i probably buy 80 or more dvds a year. and that's not counting my double copies of disney tittles

Final Destination 2
A Fish Called Wanda (twice, cause one copy was stollen)
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Hook
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Idle Hands
Lilo and Stitch
Moulin Rouge (2 disc)
My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Sweet Home Alabama
The Sword in the Stone
Treasure Planet

Man!!! I got a lot!!! I didn't realize how many I bought. Now I am certainly not happy with all the titles that I bought, looking back now, but my collection was still getting started at the beggining of the year and I just went wild, however, my dvd buying has greatly slowed in recent months, but it should begin to start picking back up soon. I guess to answer your question, I got about 33 DVDs this year...

Can't wait to get more! :)
