What Disney DVDs are you most longing for?????

Post by TheSequelOfDisney »

I know that most of you will say this: "Song of the South", and I too want Song of the South, but there are some other Disney titles that I really absolutely want. Here are just a few:

Song of the South
Pinocchio
Dumbo
Saludos Amigos
The Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Peter Pan
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Sword in the Stone
The Jungle Book
The Aristocats
Robin Hood
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Rescuers
The Fox and the Hound
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver and Company
The Little Mermaid
The Rescuers Down Under
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Treasure Planet

and finally
Home on the Range (I need it to complete my collection, not because I actually want it to see it.)
I have most of these movies on VHS, but would greatly perfer them to be on DVD. Especially a 2-disc DVD, but most of these probably won't get this treatment.

So, what do y'all want?

Just a little confused Sequel...do we list films we wish had a DVD release, or just ones yet to buy? I'm going with the former, despite your list being made up of ones you are yet to buy (largely).

Do we all really want Song of the South? Or is it just on principle now because "The Man" won't let us have it? That said, Song of the South would have to be one of the few unreleased films that I genuinely want on DVD. :)

Disneyland - Secrets, Stories and Magic of the Happiest Place on Earth is probably the DVD that I am most looking forward to, should it be eventually released and the recent news wasn't just a tease.

Uncut versions of the edited package features would complete my animated collection.

I guess some of the TV shows would be nice too.

Otherwise all of the other animated classics - which is what I primarily collect - are either out or imminent. The only live action movie I yearned for was Darby O'Gill, and we got that too! I think, like an article I read the other day said, the vaults of most studios are running dry and the next step will be another format or delivery system.

House of Mouse season sets!

I really don't understand why this series gets so little loving from a lot of people, while stuff like Talespin is classed as the be all and end all of Disney animation on TV. HoM has incredibly clever scripting and concepts and for everybody bemoaning the fact that Disney no longer appeals to anything except their core tween audience, HoM is the proof that Disney still makes great shows that can appeal to any age, with a mixture of slapstick, verbal and self-referential comedy. It even has lots of kisses to the past to appease true Disney fans.

Some of the shorts present Mickey in a more mischievous light than the 'squeaky clean' version we've all had to endure since the 1940s and the shorts with The Phantom Blott (an old time comic-strip character) show its possible to put Mickey and Co. in life-threatening situations as part of a thrilling "adventure" story. HoM is both the most modern and the most backward (but in a good way) thing Disney has ever done with Mickey and Co.

It really is one of the few landmark television series from Disney.

Well, I say I don't understand the appeal of shows like Talespin, but I do. It's simple nostalgia. I'm sure 20 years from now HoM will be considered the greatest show Disney Television Animtion ever made. Sometimes we never realise what we have until its gone.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Everything that was in the gold Collection needs to be restored and re-released as a better edition. I absolutely hated the gold collection, so i would like to forget it ever existed!

Peter Pan - I want this to still be a PE but i guess it wont be.
Fantasia - missed the anthology
Fantasia 2000 - same as above
The Rescuers - lets try something called a restoration
Lilo & Stitch - the 2-disc release that i'm now convinced will never happen
Dumbo - the 2-disc special edition that i thought we were going to get but now were not
Hunchback- a 2-disc release
Song of the South - we all want this!

1. Disneyland - Secrets, Stories and Magic of the Happiest Place on Earth: Just looks amazing! It looks so jam-packed with stuff, I just want it to come out this year! I mean, this should've been out on July 2005!

2. Pinocchio: Platinum Edition: My 2nd favorite Animated Classic(just behind The Lion King of course!)

3. The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition: I've been wanting this since Bambi came out on PE!

4. Song of the South: I'm fortunate to be related to someone who has a VHS of this, however it would be nice to own a legal copy on DVD of my own of course!

5. The Timon & Pumbaa show: Come on Disney, THIS SHOW ROCKED!!! Bring it on DVD!

I'd really like to see better releases of the collection features (Make Mine, Music, Saludos Amigos, Melody Time etc). Wouldn't it be great to get these as WDT's or 2-disc releases with a lot of cool archival material and documentaries? Huh? Guys? Maybe I'm the only one ...
Also Blackbeard's Ghost in a decent WIDESCREEN transfer.

Not quite. I'd also like to see something like this. I guess some sort of "special edition" with all or more of them together - with supplemental material dealing with the "package" era as a whole could make sense.
