I'm Looking For Some Good Disney Educational Materials!

Post by indianajdp »

Hey guys and gals.

I'm actually sitting here in the computer lab of our middle school with one of my Down Syndrome kids. He is probably the least "advanced" of all the kids in our room, but man does he respond well to Disney.

So my question to the group is...does anyone have any recommendations for some great Disney educational resources? The video pieces are hard to come by here; I'm mainly looking for things in print or on educational sites on the internet. Among other things I'd love to find pictures of Disney characters that have numbers on them. He knows how to count to ten but if I ask him to write a number or identify a number he cannot do it. Hopefully Mickey and friends can facilitate that skill.

Thanks in advance for any info that you are able to provide. This kiddo is a major challenge for me, but we're already making a lot of progress and hopefully will continue to do so with the help of Disney!

I noticed this before:

Disney's Pooh's 123 (Learn and Grow.)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 570827893/

Not sure if it's what you're looking for. You can see an example of the inner pages by "looking inside" the book.

Also Amazon.Co.UK has this
My Very First Disney 123 Counting Book
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0736401466/
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Thanks for the book links, 2099.

Anyone have any good site recommendations?
I tried some searches earlier in the day and just couldn't come up with anything good.

i don't know of any sites that are interactive..

did you know that disney has a site where you can search through lots of their educational resources?
http://dep.disney.go.com/educational/index

looks like you can search by subject and education level.

hope this helps!

Yes Cat, I did know about that site.
Unfortunately it is mostly a lot of links to other sites that are not what I'm looking for. I'm really surprised that the simple thing I am looking for does not seem to exist, at least graphically on any web pages.

The kid I was typing about earlier is something else.
Like I said, he cannot identify numbers if you ask him, but put a collage of Disney characters in front of him and ask him to point out Pluto, he'll go right to it.

Sorry that I can't be of any help indianajdp, but this thread really got me thinking.

How great would it be it a Walt Disney Treasures was released featuring all of the educational shorts? I can't tell you how badly I want Freewayphobia 1 & 2!!!! I remember seeing it on Disney Channel as a kid and laughing at the His and Hers sided freeway, I thought it was hilarious.

Of course now I know that's just not true...
