The "What Does it Mean?" Game

Post by Luke »

Okay, I've had this idea for a game thread for a while, but I've never actually seen it to fruition. Here's how it works out (in my head, anyway):

A person starts the game by posting a number which holds some kind of significance to them. Subsequent posters then must try to guess what significance the posted number holds for the person who posted it.

Once a reply has been made which is correct, then the original poster confirms that. The baton is passed to the person who made the correct guess, who then post a number which holds significance to them. And so on.

For instance, if I were to post "76."
Someone might post "Your age."
Someone else might post "Your IQ."
A third person might post "Your height in inches."

One of them (and only of them) would be correct and I would inform them of such and they would then get to post a number holding significance to them.

Now, I can think of a few ground rules and others may come up as play progresses.
1) You don't want to pick a number that no one can guess the significance of. Part of the fun is in having someone figure it out. Because we learn new things about our fellow UD forum members, you see!
2) If you pick a number like "2" or "4", chances are there will be more than one valid answer for it. Therefore, regardless of what you originally thought of when posting the number, if someone guesses something which applies to you, then, they are correct and play moves on. (You're welcome to share your original intention, when informing them they were right.)
3) The numbers we choose need to hold some special significance to the one posting it. If someone posts the number "2", you could likely answer "the number of arms you have", "the number of eyebrows you have", "the number of thumbs you have", and so on. That's not really the idea as those apply to most people. Therefore in both picking a number (which you should only do if it's your turn) and guessing a significance, try to stick to things that wouldn't be true of most people.
4) If you post a number, make sure it's something you're comfortable with sharing. There are certain numbers that would probably be quite bad to post. Things like social security numbers, phone numbers, etc. Not only would they be easy to guess, but they don't really reveal anything about you and are probably not something you want posted on the Internet. Put thought into the "picking a number" part and that will make the game all the more fun.
5) Keep it clean and fun. I realize that responses can easily be mean or off-color. Let's try not to go that route.
6) If two people both post an answer that correctly applies, obviously, the one who posted first gets to pick next.

I think that will do for now, so I shall start. While I have one answer in mind, this shall be simple enough that others can apply.

Good job! When I thought of it, it was the "number of Disney park trips I have taken", but yours works splendidly too! Your turn....

I'm thinking 23.41 refers to how much you had on your last paycheck?

And 6 might be the number of your favorite tracks on the John Mayer CD?

23.41 - amount of money you had in your pockets. 6 - The amount of money remaining after 5 gallons of gas and a coke.
...and so you two are absolutely identical? You know I'm sure I can get you a part in Toy Story 3... I'm sorry. Are we back? All right girls...lovely talking to you.
