The Hunchback SE not looking good.
Well I hate to get people's hopes down, but we're now in April without so much as a passing thought from Disney for the 10th Anniversary of Hunchback of Notre Dame. This has been my favorite Disney film since it's release and I was counting on this but it doesn't look good. We haven't heard a thing yet and I don't think we will.

Disney's marketing machine isn't always the most reliable.
Some titles are 'announced' months in advance, others appear on short notice. It is only April - leaving another 8 months to the year! Don't fold your cards yet!

Didn't Pocahontas get announced only a couple months before it came out last May? I'm sure the same will happen with Hunchback...hopefully.

Loomis is right. Usually Disney releases a press release three months before the release date, and about 5 months with big titles. Considering how little publicity the SEs of Alice in Wonderland, Mulan, and Pocahontas got, Disney probably doesn't consider Hunchback to be a big title. I, personally, think we'll see this released in October alongside The Little Mermaid. If that ends up being the case, expect a press release in July. If we get no press release at all by the end of August, then we can panic.

Actually, while I don't think there was an official press release until May, their have been announcements about it in 2003 back when it was a "Masterpiece Edition".Escapay wrote:Didn't Pocahontas get announced only a couple months before it came out last May? Why, just look at your "Finding Nemo" DVD!

Yeah, I always remember hearing about the Pocahontas SE, but Disney didn't make any formal announcement/press release until May, like weeks before the thing came out.

If Disney releases this movie on october a few days after TLM they will start announcing this title on summer like they did with Tarzan the last year, so we still have hopesDARTH KNITE wrote:Well I hate to get people's hopes down, but we're now in April without so much as a passing thought from Disney for the 10th Anniversary of Hunchback of Notre Dame. You totally took what I was gonna say!!JiminyCrick91 wrote:If they do do one for the Anniversary it will most likely be next year. I mean the Lady and the Tramp 2 Disc and Boy Meets World S1 (not on the cover but there was a sticker) were a year late.
I agree that this title needs a new re-release. I never got the previous bare-bones release that coincided with the less-than-pleasing sequel. I have loved this movie forever becaue it's a lot edgier in its subject matter than other Disney movies. I NEED THIS MOVIE!!
Let's also hope this and Peter Pan will be 2-Disc!!

The original release wasn't even in the gold collection line.Pluto wrote:I need this movie to be re-released on a special edition! I love it but i dont have the gold collection one... hope disney hears our requests!
I wouldn't hold my breath in hoping that this would be a 2-disc release. Also disney like's to release things in patterns so i'm guessing Hunchback and Hercules might come out this october just like Tarzan and TENG. and if not this october then it's very possible next year.

I wouldn't mind a new Hunchback release but I am much more concerned about Disney re-releasing Hercules because it is nonanamorphic. At least we can watch Hunchback with high quality (anamorphic) picture and sound. Hercules is one of the few animated films released nonanamorphic. The other film that needs re-released in anamorphic widescreen is The Black Cauldron.
The French release is anamorphic and restored!MichaeLeah wrote:The other film that needs re-released in anamorphic widescreen is The Black Cauldron.

I love The Hunchback of Notre Dame! It's one of my all time favorites! I wish that Disney would do it justice, and put out a good 2-disc Special Edition, kinda like the Pocahontas Special Edition (I really liked that one). I just wish that Disney would put this out on a better DVD. I feel the same way about Hercules, it is also one of Disney's movies that I like a lot.
