I just read that a Halloweentown 4 is going to be coming out....and that it's going to be a musical. Please tell me that's not true. If it is true, what is in these people's minds ? Good lord. I hate musicals. They suck rotten eggs. I hope that if they make more Halloweentowns, they are in no way, shape, or form musical. Don't get me wrong, I love music. I just hate, no, loathe musicals. It's alright if a movie involves someone who plays/sings music, but hate movies that have the characters just break out into song for no reason whatsoever. They aren't performing as a band or singer in a contest (School Of Rock, for example). They just, like I said, break out into song for no reason. They'll be just walking down the street and start singing. It makes no sense. That's why I hate Grease. (that, and it John Travolta is in it. Scientologists...ugh. And don't get on me about being against religion. Scientology isn't a religion. It started out as a sci-fi book.)

Well, first, I was at Kimberly J. Brown's website and someone in the message board mentioned it. I couldn't stand the idea so I did some searching to see if it was true. I don't know if we can believe this site, but here it is.

I think this kinda confirms it, if it's handled anything like the other magical musical (buffy the vampire slayer "Once more with feeling") then it will be pretty dark great, just cuz there is songs doesnt bring it down in enjoyment...and i dont get how you cant like grease!

That's kind of a contradiction of terms, isn't it....a good musical ? I don't mind music being in a movie....as long as there is reason for it. Like I said, it's alright for a movie to have music if there is a band playing. But for people to, for instance, be sad and then sing a song about being sad just doesn't make any sense. In real life, people just don't break out into song. I don't include Disney cartoons in this hating musicals thing.....because they're cartoons, not real. Musicals just bug me. There's just no reason for people to start singing for no reason. It just doesn't happen in real life.

Hmmm.....I don't have a feeling that people are magical witches in real life either, but...

Very good point!

I enjoy most musicals. And I dont mind that Disney has started this new musical craze. But I dont think that they should go overboard, like making sequels to "classics" only to add another musical to their list.

Just the fact that they are making another sequel to Halloweentown makes me upset. Why cant Disney put anything to rest and let a movie be what it is?

Don't get me wrong. I love Disney musicals. The cartoon ones. Some of my favourite movies, live action or not, are Beauty And The Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White. Somehow, it just feels like it makes more sense when the characters in a musical are mice, or regular cartoon humans. For some reason, it's only live action musicals that bug me. Like I said, people just don't break out into song in real life. But when it's a cartoon fantasy, it seems alright.

Obviously you've never been to the theater department at college campuses...

It's really more a suspension of disbelief when anyone watches a musical, be it live-action, cartoon, cgi, etc. We allow ourselves to believe that in this world, in this universe presented before us, it's perfectly natural for someone to break out in song and dance. Happens in real-life as well sometimes. Have you and your friends been talking over lunch or dinner sometimes, and you're having such a good time reminiscing about something, that someone mentions a song, and somehow you guys end up singing it aloud to each other? (Or maybe that's just me...

)

Anyway, if you wanna give live-action musicals a chance, check out a few of Disney's. Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Newsies, etc.

Ummm...who said movies are real life? They may be based on real life, but they aren't real life. Nobody lives a life without ever coughing or sneezing when not sick. Nobody in a movie ever goes to the bathroom and actually goes to the bathroom. There's usually a reason for it. Like in musicals. There's a reason for the song they are singing. Emotions are more easily conveyed through music, thus the idea that characters drop everythinig or sometimes keep doing what they're doing and break out into song. True, no one walks around the streets and then suddenly everyone knows the chorus to the song you're singing and elaborate dance moves follow...lol. Movie musicals are fantasies too, so I'm having a hard time seeing why they bug you so much. I guess they can bug you if it's just not the right time for a musical number or its a bad song.

May I recommend Rent, Fiddler on the Roof, the Sound of Music, the King and I or any other broadway show turned movie?

Definitely not just you

There was a time when my family when to Colorado and we took a three hour train ride to a tourist attraction (I know...I know) and we got so bored that we started singing music from The Sound of Music and Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King and when we reached our destination, the whole train car was singing along...i kid you NOT.

In last week's Entertainment Weekly, there was an article about the cast from High School Musical and talking about what they are all up to. On top of working on the sequel (High School Musical 2 due out summer 2007), Vanessa Ann Hudgens (17 years old) is recording an album, Ashley Tisdale(20 years old) is recording an album, and Lucas Grabeel (21 years old) is working on...Halloweentown IV! That's right. I was wondering if anyone has any more information about this movie. I usually enjoy these movies, but can they really get everyone back for this one? Sorry if this has already been mentioned here, but I was kind of excited and the cursory glance I gave didn't show any recent posts...
