The Timekeeper... GONE!!!

Post by Timon/Pumbaa fan »

Well the usually ignored Circle Vision show, "The Timekeeper" at Magic Kingdom has finally "switched from 'operates seasonally' to 'former attraction'."

http://www.miceage.com/kevinyee/ky022106b.htm

... so what does everybody think about this? Anybody here seen the show? Unfortunetly, this was closed during my last trip to WDW, so I can't comment on it at all, but it did sound like an interesting and fun show, and I'm a bit disappointed I'll never get to view it. I hope if anything does replace it, it's another Circle Vision show!

This also doesn't bring very good luck to the also "operating seasonally", Carousel of Progress! :|

I've seen the show. It's ok but there's plenty of better things to do or see than this attraction. I'm sad the carousel of progress is going to go away too. That's a done deal too by the statemnt in the article:

...when the Carousel of Progress also finally rotates its way into oblivion in a year or so.

The Carousel attraction couldn't be around forever anyway since that last stage is already getting eclipsed by new technology.

I'm not fond of "The Timekeeper", so I won't miss it. However, I do like the Carousel of Progress, and I hate to see that one go.

Yeah, especially how the grandfather talks about the new stuff like "laserdisc and High-Definition TV".

I've always wondered why then never thought to move CoP to Epcot, it seems like the perfect place for it. Of course, there's the space and money issue, they'd need to either dump a pavilion or make new space somewhere that used to be backstage to fit it...

Cute show, sad to see it go out this way. The whole area surrounding the theatre entrance is now a Stitch/Buzz Lightyear/Incredibles Meet and Greet.

I saw Timekeeper last time it opened, this past holiday season, and snapped some pictures; I'd heard the buzz it probably wouldn't last after this past Holiday season.

I can't believe I haven't posted this until now. In an Intercot Newsletter I got on July 15th, information had been given about the replacement attraction for the Timekeeper:

Intercot Insider wrote:- The Laugh Floor Comedy Club -
This all-new Tomorrowland experience, scheduled to debut in early 2007, gives Magic Kingdom guests the opportunity to participate in a live, interactive comedy show with some of their favorite characters from Monsters Inc., including Mike Wazowski. Having discovered that "laughter is 10x more powerful than scream, "The Laugh Floor at Monsters Inc. has been transformed into a comedy club for visiting humans- the goal: gather big laughs and plenty of them. Mike and his fellow comedians provide interactive opportunities for guest participation, using classic techniques such as improv and of playful teasing. This brand new show will occupy the space that was formerly home to the Timekeeper attraction.
Pixar's really starting to make its presence in the parks! It's a shame that other classic Disney features still aren't finding their way into the theme parks (Bambi is what comes to mind). Anyhow, I'm glad that there's a new show at Magic Kingdom.

This is pretty sad news. "The Timekeeper" is gone now in the Disney theme parks. The French equivalent "Le Visionarium" closed a while ago, and I believe that there are no versions in California, Hong Kong and Tokyo. :(

Can anyone tell me where The Timekeeper was in Magic Kingdom and a brief description of what it was?? Was it at that Galaxy Theater near CoP?

As for CoP, I liked that attraction a lot more than I thought I would, but it does need an update. It would fit nicely in Epcot.

No, the Galaxy Palace Theater is an open air theater like the ones in Disney-MGM Studios. The Timekeeper was an indoor attraction because it used the circlevision screen that went all around you like the one for Reflections of China in Epcot. The Timekeeper building is to the right of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and across from Stitch's Great Escape. When entering Tomorrowland, it is the first building to your right.

The Timekeeper was a great show with a robot that traveled through time. He was voiced by Robin Williams. You met the Timekeeper in the preshow b/c he was an audio-animatronic and he introduced you to the show. There was another little robot character that was the circle vision camera. She reminded me of Weebo from Flubber and she would fly around the envrionment when we'd travel through time. I think we were in inside her, but I'm not sure. The time periods visited included The World's Fair where we met Jules Verne and a concert in a fancy house where Mozart or some other composer lived. I think we also went into the future. It was a great show that was also a place to rest as it was air conditioned and there was hardly ever a line.

I think it would be better to bring the Timekeeper back and put this new Monster's Inc. Comedy Club where the Galaxy Palace Theater is now since everytime we visit it's always closed. I think when dance troupes and bands come they play here, but they should just build another stage or set up a collapsible one somewhere else.

I'll miss the Timekeeper, even though the 360 flims tend to give my wife motion-sickness. It was one of the hallmarks of Tomorrowland's reinvention; it was a CircleVision movie with more going on that just what was on the screens. And seeing it the first time made me happy because it was tanglible evidence of Robin Williams' return to the Disney fold after they straightened out that mess over Aladdin. Anyone else remember that bit of trouble? I seem to recall Mr. Williams took offense to his voice work being used in various Aladdin-related merchandising efforts which he felt were not covered in his cotract. I think the company gave him (among other things?) a Picasso to help smooth things over...

I just got back from another trip to Disney World (yesterday). The Carousel of Progress actually had a crowd AND the parks werent even that crowded. I was quite happy to see this. They had a Buzz Lightyear autograph place set up outside and it seemed that families were going inside after their kids met the popular space ranger. When I watched it, the theater was 3/4 full. In the past, it's always been 1/4 full. I have some hope that they will keep it. It's one of my favorites! If they need to put something else in, they should do what Kram Nebuer said and bulldoze the stupid Galaxy Palace Theater. They haven't had a Disney show there since before 2000 and there is enough room for two rides! Same with the 20,000 Leagues Lagoon. They close it and leave it sit. Then turn Mr. Toad into Winnie the Pooh when they could have leveled the lagoon and had enough room for Pooh and another dark ride. They could have easily re-done one of the dark rides WDW doesn't have such as Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, which would have been 15 feet away from the teacups, or The Little Mermaid, which would have been right by Ariel's Grotto! I wish I was on the comittee that decides these things! lol.

I did go to the TimeKeeper once and my feelings are not going to be hurt that I never get to see it again. However, I will truly be upset when the Carousel of Progress becomes extinct. Luckily, I have it on video.

I noticed that too on my last trip! I've never seen it so crowded until recent years. Even on my senior class trip in 2005, a lot of people went on the attraction and liked it too. I remember one of my classmates was randomly singing it in my Economics class after we got back. Lol.

But yeah, I wish they'd do SOMETHING with the Galaxy Palace Theater. In Tokyo Disneyland they have a similar theater, but at least they have a Disney show there playing everyday (though it has little to do with "tomorrow").

ETA: Oops. I forgot. They're taking High School Musical franchise one step further (a little too far, IMO) and making a stage show at the GPTheater. http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=16008

A High School Musical stage show in the park??? Oh brother... I know they just made it available for actual high schools to perform as their school play, but that is WAY too far. I've seen High School Musical. I found the music to be generally unmemorable, with the exception of two songs, and I'm not biased towards pop music or show tunes. I also found the plot to be very predictable and the acting very corny, with the exception of Ashley Tisdale and the drama teacher. I would not wait around for a High School Musical stage show, but I guess it is uber popular... It's just that there are so many classic things I'd like to see being added to the park. Oh well... hoepfully it will close within the next few years and they can doze the theater and put in a ride.

By the way, won't the actors be 18 and older and too old looking to be in high school????? I thought I had read that you had to be 18 to be cast in a Disney show.

Seems like they're slowly taking the Tomorrow out of Tomorrowland. I mean, what does Monsters, Inc. have to do with the future anyway? Or High School Musical? That should be at Disney Studios (if anywhere). As for their ages, people much older than 18 play high school students all the time on TV, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Well, when I first rode Timekeeper, I was generally unimpressed. It was when they had just redone Tomorrowland and added it, and I was unimpressed with the new Tomorrowland in general. Alien Encounter was pretty cool though. I have to admit though, Timekeeper did seem better when I went on it a couple years ago. It IS a shame to see it go. It seems like everything they remove now is replaced with something inferior, and that's one of the main reasons I shudder whenever something is taken out. Also, it seems that they are going through with the concept of making all the Disney Parks in Florida more "Kid Friendly" than ever. I wouldn't be surprised if Tomorrowland is changed to PIXARland. I love PIXAR, but put the attractions in appropriate places in appropriate parks. Monsters Inc. should probably be at Disney Studios. Buzz Lightyear fits in Tomorrowland, so that I have no problem with. And, as for Carousel of Progress, I wish they'd just redo it again (though I'll miss Jean Shepherd). I mean, it'll be truly sad if EVERYTHING nostalgic disappears. Also, it's probably the best thing Tomorrowland has right now... Well, I haven't ridden the Stitch ride, and yeah, I know, everyone loves Space Mountain (I realize it's cool, but I'm not a coaster guy, which is another reason I worry about the future of the parks).

By the way, I have heard for some time that a Nemo ride was in the works. A submarine ride is what I thought it was supposed to be, but maybe not. I always heard it would be a submarine ride and would be in the lagoon where the old submarine ride was. Anyone know anything about this? Maybe it will be at The Living Seas instead... Maybe they've scrapped the idea. They should have just improved the original ride and did something with Nemo at EPCOT (The Living Seas needed SOMETHING last time I was there). I like that the park had a few things based on their classic live-action stuff. I hope the Florida Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse doesn't become Tarzan's Treehouse.

One more thing. I wouldn't mind if a GOOD Incredibles attraction was added. However, they'd probably put it in the wrong place: Tomorrowland. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they put one where Carousel of Progress is.

Oh, and if they're going to do a Monsters, Inc. Attraction, I wish they'd just give us a cool ride like the one in California (well, it looks cool on TV, I've never seen it).

The submarine ride is still kaput at the Magic Kingdom. It has been filled in with cement and covered in the Hundred-Acre Wood. I moan and weep about this regularly.

Good guess about EPCOT. I believe that new attraction is opening either this month or next. They will rename the new attraction The Seas with Nemo and Friends. They already have Nemo and his friends in the form of statues outside the attraction. You currently enter the attraction my going through doors where the fake elevators used to be.

They already have an interactive show with Crush or whatever the turtle's name is. I haven't done this yet because the line was too long for my lazy self. I think it is kid-oriented anyway. As I understand it, they are going to revamp the pre-show as it is no longer available. I figured they would reinitiate the ride also. They will still call the attraction Sea Alpha-Base One or whatever it is called (it is something like that). They also have a bunch of little tanks there will all the fish from the movie like clown fish, etc.

Anyway, there are big changes coming to the attraction because the entire front of the place is blocked off. You can expect it to look much different when you go there next time. I can keep you posted on details at a later time, but I probably should start a new thread because I have really digressed from the original topic.
