HD-DVD, and BLU-RAY..will they have 2 Disc sets?

I every time I see a dvd that says 2 disc dvd, I know there is a lot of extras. But since the capasity of these new DVDS are gonna be so much larger, you can fit what you see on a two disc dvd right now on a Blu-Ray, and HD...right??

Well we gotta keep in mind the higher quality of the video and audio of the movie, though I doubt it would take up so much room on a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD disc that they'd need to have a second disc for the extras.

Blu-ray is supposed to offer a capacity of 25 GB on a single-layered disc and 50 GB on a dual-layered disc (over 5X as much as SSSL and SSDL DVDs, respectively), and is being designed so that multi-layered discs (holding up to 100-200 GB) will also be compatible. Still, I'm sure that some season sets of hour-long shows will require multiple discs (at least until studios get multi-layered down pat) and eventually studios wanting to raise the bar for customers probably will take this approach too. Plenty of 2-disc sets today could fit on one, but aren't in the name of compression and, presumably, marketability.

Also the packaging is gonna be totally different. I don't know if they (companys) will still used digi packs, amaray, etc. because the cases are really thin. Like let's say you have 100 DVDs with the reg DVD case (amaray case), with BLU-RAY, or HD you can have 200 moives on the same shelf as the DVD becuase of thinner packaging! I hope this makes sence....

I don't know, but I just love 2 disc sets, as well as multiple discs for movie franchises (like Star Wars or Indiana Jones) and t.v. shows. It just gives them a more valueable feel, IMO.

I think the magic of it will somewhat be killed if it's all placed on one disc.

I'm guessing that most 2 disc Special Editions will become 1 disc and it will be the number of features that determines whether or not it's a Special Edition.

I know the improved picture quality will take up more space on the disc, but being honest I'd be happy with the film being done up in HD qaulity and the special features just being current digital quality. It's not that much different and it's the film that's really important.

If they can be done in 1 disc and maintain all the special features without a drop in quality (the film itself would have to be HD) then I see no reason to do a set as 2 disc just for the heck of it. The features still set it apart as a Special Edition.

The only titles I really want to see as 2 disc on the new format are the Platinums. These discs should be full of everything possible. A restored HD version of the film, the original theatrical version of the film (should any major changes have been made to the restored SE version), the work in progress versions (like Beauty and the Beast had). I'd even love to see them include story board versions of the films so we could see how the film evolved - this would be a must for Aladdin should a story board version of the original storyline exist.

I was guessing that.

For example instead of a 2-Disc tagged on to the title, we'll just get something such as Million Dollar Baby: Special Edition, or, Collector's Edition..

Anyways, I can't really imagine any Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles being barebones. I mean, at first glance, these babies are made for the collectors, who want everything but the moon (and in some cases, the moon). Wouldn't make sense for the studios to re-release some films on the new format without giving them at least a couple features. Then again, we may end up with Universal doing their movie collections again with five movies unrestored on a single disc in either format...what at travesty that would be!

I can promise, as sure as eggs are eggs, Blu-Ray titles will get 2 disc sets as well - regardless of what the actual special features are, and regardless of if they could be squeezed onto one disc or not.

Simply because the average punter on the street thinks he's getting a bargain when he gets a 2 disc set over a 1 disc set. Marketing dictates 2 discs sets will be released. However, I think it wont be for a few years - they will wait until the format needs a shot in the arm after the initial excitement has worn off.
