"Disney Christmas Gift" - Anyone know about this?

Post by mikemgmve »

Long story short - I grew up as a child watching a Christmas video my mom had taped off HBO or something, (i think everyone in the 80's had video tape collections with stuff off tv).

Anyway, it wasn't till I worked at blockbuster video years ago that I knew this video existed, and I THINK it's the same one (kick myself for never renting it out to myself to doule check.)

I know Disney has put together several compilations, but the one I had on tape had these segments in it:

From Bambi: Bambi and Thumper skating on the frozen pond
"Pluto's Christmas Tree" cartoon short
"One Upon A Wintertime" from Melody Time (the couple and rabbits skating)
Pieces from "The Nutcracker Suite" from Fantasia (with the frozen pond, and fairys and flowers and such)
I also remember bits from Peter Pan, and I think Cinderella.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

The first 4 parts I remember clearly apart of it, if so is this the right compilation? I wish it'd come out on DVD

The more I read about the details that I could find online, the more I realized it was it, so I bought myself a copy off amazon for $5 new. Sweet!

I read that the blackface moments in the "night before christmas" segment had been edited out of some laserdisc and other releases, but that the newer VHS's had it back in. Hopefully so.

I plan on transferring it over to DVD.

We had this on video tape, followed by Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas on the same tape. I was excited to see my sister pick that up on DVD this past holiday.

I used to have that VHS when I was little, then I don't have it now. I only have The Disney Channel christmas taped pff from the Disney Channel in 1996.

If I remember correctly, some of the scenes in the opening was used in The Disney Channel Christmas (the one with Mickey and Minnie, the toys, etc). At that time, there's a Donald short, where he's giftwrapping presents. My goodness, that is one cartoon I laughed so much! Hopefully that short will be available in the next chronoligical donald treasure.

mikemgmve: Don't forget that there's a scene from the Sword in the Stone as well.

It won't be available on the next Chronological Donald treasure, because it's on the current Chronological Donald treasure, volume two. The title of that short is The Clock Watcher.

It's also available on CCFV9: Holiday Celebration with Mickey and Pals.

Anyways, I remember this too. Kram got the VHS for Christmas one year (methinks 1994 or 1995), and it's been a holiday staple in our family since then. Of course, now that we have all the corresponding shorts on DVD, we don't really watch the VHS much anymore, but still...

Oh really? I have Chronoligical Donald two treasure and I didn't noticed it (which means I watched some of the shorts from CD2, but not all of it. D'oh!). I'll check it by the weekend and see it. Thanks for the information, Anders M Olsson. :)

Disney's Christmas Gift

Post by DisneyPrincess »

I have the <b>Disney Christmas Gift</b> on vhs also. It has clips from Sword in the Stone, Bambi, Cinderella and lots of Christmas cartoons. I enjoy watching it every year!

I also have one called <b>"A Walt Disney Christmas"</b> with the following cartoons:
Once Upon a Wintertime
Santa's Workshop
The Night Before Christmas
Pluto's Christmas Tree
On Ice
Donald's Snow Fight

I was lucky and got these two on vhs at Best Buy for 3 bucks a piece when they were getting rid of all their vhs tapes. I watch them every year!

I have "A Disney Christmas Gift" on a DVD-R with other Christmas specials. It features the following cartoons:

1. "Once Upon A Wintertime" (From "Melody Time") - As featured on the DVD "Disney Princess: A Christmas of Enchantment"
2. "Pluto's Christmas Tree" - As featured on the DVD "Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In At The Mouse Of House"
3. "The Clock Watcher" - As featured in the "Chronological Donald - Vol. 2" DVD
4. "The Night Before Christmas" - As featured on the DVD "Disney Princess: A Christmas of Enchantment"

It features excerpts from Disney animated classics like "Bambi", "Peter Pan", "Sword In The Stone" and "Cinderella". All of these four films are not restored except "Bambi" and "Cinderella" are both restored on DVD, so did "Peter Pan" and "Sword In the Stone". The one VHS tape I have is "Sword In The Stone" that was from the Masterpiece edition.
