UK EIV vs. VIZ magazine

Post by 2099net »

I thought this may interest you - a bit of background for non-UK residents.

EIV - a so-so film and video distribution company (who release DVDs over here with terrible covers), which somehow has managed to get the UK rights for such blockbusters as The Lord of the Rings, Gangs of New York and... Freddy Vs Jason (which I am looking forward to seeing on DVD by the way).

VIZ - a highly irrelevant comic/magazine aimed at adults (the material is unsuitable for children). At one point VIZ sold over 1.5 million copies a month just in the UK alone (quite good, when X-Men is selling around 200,000 copies worldwide!)

anyhow, here is the news:
The funniest thing in this month's Viz is a true story - in the last issue, they ran a competition in partnership with Entertainment (the cinema arm of EiV) to promote Freddy Vs Jason. The first prize was a widescreen telly, a DVD player and an EiV Nightmare On Elm Street DVD box set.

Anyone who's ever read Viz will know they ALWAYS take the piss out of the competitions they run and this time they made fun of Freddy Vs Jason, using the headline "Shite! Camera! Action!", saying the stars were "no one you've ever heard of" and calling the runner-up prizes "worthless".

Well Entertainment didn't see the funny side and have now refused to supply the prizes!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I read a few issues of Viz. I used to work with a gentleman from GB and he brought them in. I recall quite a few Leo Sayer sightings in the letters section, lol.
