Welcome to the forum Roushrider81!

Its great to have someone else from massachusetts on this board. I live in the suburbs of boston. I was actually born near Gardner, Massachusetts (I was born in leomonster).

As for the question, I'm not really sure because I've only been on the TOT in florida and not in california. They should be around the same.

I have only been on the Californian one, but as far as I can tell there are a few differences.

The Floridian one leaves the shaft, so you are not entirely sure when the drop is actually going to happen. This gives you a bit more suspense and re-rideability from what I understand. That said, there are a few "new" effects as far as I know in the DCA version, which look cool, but the randomness is probably a bigger drawcard.

Both have a similar theme and ultimate goal (a really sharp drop), but from what I've read the Floridian one does sound a bit more "involved". Insiders say that apart from the lower cost of the DCA version, the transition from one shaft to the other was removed from the DCA to speed up loading times (and it is fast).

That said, when you are falling really quickly - or anticipating a big drop - you stop worrying about things like scenery. :D

I've ridden both - the major difference is what has been said already... that the Florida elevators leave the elevator shaft before the drop. Since I was expecting that from the DCA ride, I was really surprised the first time I rode it when the drop came much earlier than I expected. The Florida version is better, but both are fun. Which ever park you go to, it's a ride you can't miss.

In The Disney Studios' Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Florida you do the norm, with a few (apparently) different effects. It then goes out of the elevator shaft and when the actual drop(s) occur, there is a random sequencing in which you are pulled down to some extent, then shot back up, down, up, down etc. stopping in the middle, or even 3 feet below from where you started dropping. I have not been on the one at DCA, but I know it is much better, considering it is not just one drop, and when they happen, you don't know how many, and for how long, so you actually feel stuck in "The Twilight Zone", which I am guessing, is what the Imagineers were trying to do.

Plus, the DCA looks atrocious *blech*

The one at DCA has more than one drop as well! And exactly like the one in Florida, the drops change all the time so you never ride the same ride twice. So whoever told you DCA's TOT doesn't drop more than once or always repeats itself, was wrong.

I'm one of the few here that has ridden both! I also like the one at MGM much more because the elevator leaves the elevator shaft which brings up MUCH more fear and suspense! That's why I love it! :)

However the one at DCA isn't terrible, it's still one of the park's highlights and is still fun!

And there is also one little effect that DCA has that MGM dosen't! When you go up the elevator shaft, the first thing you do is go to a mirror and you hear the narrator say, "Wave goodbye, to the real world!" And the first time I rode this, I just waved at my reflection, but then... a little surprise happens! I can't tell you what it is, you have to go to DCA for yourself, but unfortunetely, this scene isn't done on the one at MGM!

Well, I'm actually one of those who likes the California version better than the Florida version. Having the elevator leave the elevator shaft ruins the illusion for me, so I much prefer the California version where the elevator stays in the shaft.

The mirror effect is actually pretty cool as well- and as Timon/Pumba fan said- not on the Florida version. Still both Towers are great and definitely not to be missed whether visiting Disneyland or Disney World.

Oh, does the Florida one not do that? I really wasn't expecting more than one drop on the DCA version, and I think that is what made it that little bit more fun.

The things we put ourselves through, huh?

Actually when it comes to drops, the one if Florida is EXACTLY like the one in California.

I think "TheLittleMerman" was saying MGM's TOT's drops were better than the drops from TOT at DCA when I was saying that was wrong because they both have more than one drop and the drops change constantly on both rides.

So what's this effect at DCA's TOT that has to do with mirrors and reflections?

I've only ridden TOT once, at MGM. It scared the sh!t outta me and I've steered clear since. But if I do ever ride it again, Kram knows not to ride with me. THe first and only time I rode it, I squeezed his hand nearly to the point of crushing and breaking it, mostly out of fright and out of anger that he made me do the damn ride.

Exactly! Wow. I thought that DCA's only dropped once. Oh well. It still doesn't make up for its hideous-ness *blech*. BTW, I'd love it if you would PM me the "Mirror Secret", because I'm not going to Cali for quite some time, mind you.

I'm still not sure why the TOT in DCA is considered so "hideous"?

Here it is in DCA (my holiday happy snap):

And MGM (official groovy photo):

Ok, the latter is taller and pointier, but the first one is hardly ugly.

Again, the facade and the lead up aside, the essential goal of both rides - scaring the living **** out of you by dropping you lots of floors several times - is the same. Yes, there may be different things along the way, but this debate is like the original Star Wars versus Jedi. The Death Star blows up at the end of both, who cares what happens in between? :D

Well, to me, DCA's ToT doesn't look like a tower. It looks like a rectangle being held up and it's just..*shudder*, whatever though. You made a good enough point yourself. <3 the analogy by the way ;)

Well since alot of people want to know it I'll just highlight the secret in white: When you look at yourself in the mirror, first you see your reflection but after you wave at "yourself", you all of a sudden see yourself looking like bolts of electricity from the Twilightzone!
