The Muppet Movie

Post by pop-musik »

I already own the 2001 releases of "The Muppet Movie" and "The Great Muppet Caper" on DVD.

Is there any major reason why I should buy the re-releases? Just Curious.

I don't have "Muppet Treasure Island" or "Muppet Christmas Carol", so I do plan on getting the re-releaes of those.

All 4 releases will be both pan & scan and widescreen .... if we can believe BVHE.

All earlier releases were pan&scan only.

Nope, The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper were released in both formats on flip sides of their discs by Sony in 2001. I know that Sony has since taken a liking to losing the WS side, but they were definitely initially offered in WS.

Disney promises that these new discs are "remastered and restored", so that could mean an improvement in picture and sound, if true. It doesn't sound like there will be a wealth of new supplements on the first two films, and they'll almost certainly lose the handful of things on their first release (the neat camera test and disposable Muppet-isms). When I review these (and I think I'll at least be doing Muppet Movie), I''l be sure to compare Disney's transfers with the Sony releases.

Sony released two films including "The Muppet Movie" and "The Great Muppet Caper". Those movie are made by BVHE before Sony took over these two Muppet films. Sony also released "The Muppets Take Manhattan" as well as "Muppets in Space". Those are from Sony.

Howdy!

Will Disney ever buy those two movies from Sony sometime in the future or not? Judged on what someone will say about this, I highly doubt it.

That is not correct. The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper were independently produced by Jim Henson's company. They were distributed by Sony, and when Disney purchased The Muppets Holding Company, they acquired the rights to these two films.
