I already own the 2001 releases of "The Muppet Movie" and "The Great Muppet Caper" on DVD.
Is there any major reason why I should buy the re-releases? Just Curious.
I don't have "Muppet Treasure Island" or "Muppet Christmas Carol", so I do plan on getting the re-releaes of those.

Nope, <i>The Muppet Movie</i> and <i>The Great Muppet Caper</i> were released in both formats on flip sides of their discs by Sony in 2001. All earlier releases were pan&scan only.
Disney promises that these new discs are "remastered and restored", so that could mean an improvement in picture and sound, if true. It doesn't sound like there will be a wealth of new supplements on the first two films, and they'll almost certainly lose the handful of things on their first release (the neat camera test and disposable Muppet-isms). When I review these (and I think I'll at least be doing <i>Muppet Movie</i>), I''l be sure to compare Disney's transfers with the Sony releases.

That is not correct. <i>The Muppet Movie</i> and <i>The Great Muppet Caper</i> were independently produced by Jim Henson's company.
