PREDICT WHICH DISNEY DVD'S WILL GET A 2ND CHANCE IN 2007.
Seeing as how Tarzan, Mulan, Toy Story 1 & 2, Alice in Wonderland and Emperor's New Groove have/will be seing re-releases on DVD,
Which DVD's do you speculate might be in the works for a late 2006/early 2007 release?
Here are a few titles I'm guessing will be re-released next year.
Hercules: Special Edition - with a new All-Digital 16x9 Transfer.
Hunchback of Notre Dame: Special Edition - with a new All-Digital 16x9 Transfer.
Dumbo: Special Edition - With A Lowry Digital Restoration
The Nightmare Before Christmas - A New 16x9 Transfer with Bonus 2nd Disc.
Movies I think should get a second release but Probably Won't:
A Goofy Movie - A Discrete 5.1 Track was made for it's original theatrical release. It should be included this time with a 16x9 transfer.
The Rescuers Down Under - Go Back to the Digital Files and transfer it to DVD again and remix sound to 5.1 from 4.0 original.
Robin Hood - I don't know if it needs a second disc, but having Lowry restore the picture, and doing a 5.1 upgrade sounds like a good idea to me.
We already know that Lady and Mermaid will be coming to DVD as well,
but I'm not so sure about Song of the South, I think we'll see it in the future, but I have doubts about seeing it next year.

Since I'm bored, I'll bite again, but don't we do this at least once every month?
Dumbo and certianly Hunchback already had decent releases, in fact I think they rank in the upper class of single-disc releases from Disney as far as bonus materials are concerned. However, yes, there is room for more and I'm certian that Hunchback will be getting a 10th Anniversary Edition sometime next year. Likely May/June like Pocahontas did this year. Hercules may hold off until 2007 for its anniversary, but they may want to get it out on standard DVD one last time before the Blu-ray rollout, so it might end up next year as a "special" (as opposed to anniversary) edition.
Though I'd love to see a new Nightmare Before Christmas DVD, I seriously doubt we'll be seeing it again on this format. It does need an anamorphic transfer, but if they were going to do anything with it, I'dve expected it this year to cash in on the success of Corpse Bride (and James and the Giant Peach with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.) I'd love for them to add a second commentary from Burton, but other than that, the current DVD is loaded to the brim with lots of REALLY good extras, so I'm not sure what else they could do to improve upon it.

yeah I've seen a lot of threads which talk about similar, if not the same thingPatrickvD wrote:uhm... isn't this the 100th thread on the same topic.. I think this one should be merged with the last one.
anyway, I hope Dumbo, Her and Hunchback get decent releases next year.

Anyways, I wish Hercules gets a better treatment, and maybe Sword in the Stone. Dumbo will probably get a better edition next year.

Saludos Amigos/The Three Caballeros: 3-disc Special Edition
The Black Cauldron: Special Edition
Treasure Planet: Special Edition
Hehehe, if only!
Well, for real, my expectations are just the same as everyone else´s here... Song of the South, Lilo & Stitch, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Dumbo.
Come to think of it, I´m sure there is going to be a new edition of The Black Cauldron sooner or later. The film has already been restored by Lowry/DTS Digital - actually, this restored version has already been released in France. It would be a sensible idea to release it in the US as soon as possible - hopefully with those famous deleted scenes as extras!

I'll just do a whole list of animated things that haven't gotten a two discer yet and analyse from there.
Pinocchio: Pretty much confirmed for PE...
Fantasia: Pretty much confirmed for PE, although there was that Fantasia Anthology multi disc set...
Dumbo: It just went out of print on the hush, and seeing as how some call it the best Disney movie ever, there could be a 2 discer (which I'll upgrade to if a huge step in quality).
Saludos Amigos: This could be easy, as laserdisc material exists, but it may not be too high profile. Perhaps we could see an Old Yeller style rerelease with The Three Caballeros.
The Three Caballeros: Pretty much the same case as Saludos.
Make Mine Music: Casey Bats Again isn't on the Rarities treasure, so hopefully that means that this will be unedited on a future tin set.
Fun and Fancy Free: Unlikely, IMO.
Melody Time: They could pair it with Make Mine Music in an unedited package feature Treasure tin.
Ichabod and Mr Toad: Hopefully there will be a restored 2 disc movie collection with this and Fun and Fancy Free (it's a similar concept to this film), but I'm saying "hopefully"...
Peter Pan: Pretty much confirmed for PE...
Lady and the Tramp: It's coming as a PE next year.
101 Dalmatians: It's coming as a PE.
The Sword in the Stone: This is a maybe. They may as well release it as a 2 disc release, if just to make sure that all the single story Walt era films get a SE.
The Jungle Book: It's coming as a PE.
The Aristocats: This is a maybe. I see it covered a lot in Disney merchandise, so it may be popular enough for rerelease.
Robin Hood: It hurts me to say this, but I think no new edition.
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: This is quite likely, in my opinion, as Pooh is pretty popular, yet I have a feeling that it'll probably be a fun and game fest if it got a 2 disc set.
The Rescuers: This maybe likely for a 2 disc movie collection with its sequel, as Disney is going through a phase with such sets (after The Parent Trap and Old Yeller)
The Fox and the Hound: This is a maybe, as I heard that it went OOP in some countries in Europe recently.
The Black Cauldron: If someone asked me "do you think The Black Cauldron is unlikely to get a rerelease?", my reply would be "is the Pope a Catholic?".
The Great Mouse Detective: Look at my reply for Robin Hood.
Oliver and Company: Unlikely, though I couldn't care less.
The Little Mermaid: For all those who posted one of the many "when is the PE coming" topics, you'll be glad to know that it's out in October of next year.
The Rescuers Down Under: 2 Disc Movie Collection?
The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Likely to get a SE, as there are laserdisc things.
Hercules: It's recent enough, me want SE.
Fantasia 2000: Go up to the top and look what I wrote for the original.
Lilo and Stitch: A 2 Disc set is out in Europe, so I'm hesitant about putting it on the list.
Treasure Planet: It just went OOP on the hush, so maybe.
Home on the Range: Unlikely, IMO.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Possible, especially after the Mary Poppins DVD. If I were in charge of Disney, this would have already got a multi disc set.
Pete's Dragon: Same reasons as BAB.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: It seems popular enough, and the Region 1 DVD is non anamorphic, so a new DVD would be possible.
James and the Giant Peach: Unlikely, IMO.
Pinocchio: Pretty much confirmed for PE...
Fantasia: Pretty much confirmed for PE, although there was that Fantasia Anthology multi disc set...

Gonna go the Wondy route too...
Snow White: PE Oct 2001, OOP. Likely re-released after all 14 platinums are released, and will restart the cycle in 2010.
Pinocchio: PE likely. I'm thinking this will be part of the 2008 PE line, maybe with Fantasia (Pinoke in March, Fantasia in October?)
Fantasia: PE likely. Maybe it will port over features from the Fantasia Legacy disc, along with a couple newer ones so it's not necessarily a double-dip for those who already have the Fantasia Anthology.
Dumbo: 2-Disc is definitely likely. I can see it accompany a Platinum release in March or October of next year.
Bambi: PE March 2005. Likely to follow Aladdin in the new cycle.
Saludos Amigos/The Three Caballeros: Both share the same themes, and with Disney starting to package two-movie collections, we could possibly see this in the future. Though I'm guessing it'd only be the GC transfers on one disc, as opposed to "real" bonus material.
Make Mine Music/Melody Time: See above.
Fun and Fancy Free/Ichabod and Mr. Toad: See above.
Cinderella: Tuesday!!!
Alice in Wonderland: A solid 2-Disc already, but there's still more material they could add, so I'm thinking that one day they may re-release this with more material.
Peter Pan: Since its addition to the PE line, I'm thinking this might be in the March 2009 slot.
Lady and the Tramp: PE in March, w00t!
Sleeping Beauty: like Alice in Wonderland, a solid 2-disc set. But with its addition to the PE line (and I'm guessing October 2009 for its release), they may simply port over the entire set and add a couple more featurettes or kiddie games to give it the Platinum label.
101 Dalmatians: PE October 07, according to UD.
The Sword in the Stone: Should definitely get a 2-disc edition, though I'm not sure where in a release timeframe they could include it. Since the other two 1960s DACs will be released in 2007, I'm guessing they may re-release a new 2-disc edition of SITS as well, though I wouldn't hold my breath on it.
The Jungle Book: PE March 07, according to UD.
The Aristocats: Not likely for 2-disc edition.
Robin Hood: Not likely for 2-disc edition, which makes me

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: I would venture to guess Disney will release a new 2-disc 30th Anniversary edition in 2007. Disney loves adding the word Anniversary to their titles now (Mary Poppins, Pocahontas, Touchstone releases).
The Rescuers/The Rescuers Down Under: Basically screams 2-disc, with one disc devoted to both movies, and another to bonus features.
The Fox and the Hound: Can't see a 2-disc in the future, though it would be interesting to see what kind of features it might have.
The Black Caudron: A 2-disc rerelease is definitely not likely at all, if anything, they may just re-release it with an anamorphic transfer and a couple scant bonus features.
The Great Mouse Detective: see Fox and the Hound
Oliver and Company: The SE is fine for now, even though the making-of featurette is more of an EPK than an actual making-of featurette. I doubt a 2-disc is in the future.
The Little Mermaid: PE in October 2006.
Beauty and the Beast: PE in October 2002, OOP. Likely to follow SW in the new cycle.
Aladdin: PE in October 2004. Is it OOP yet? Likely to follow TLK in the new cycle.
The Lion King: PE in October r2003, OOP. Likely to follow BATB in the new cycle.
Pocahontas: Already has a solid 2-disc edition, though I wouldn't be surprised if in 2015 we get Pocahontas 20th Anniversary Edition with another all-new song

Hunchback: Definitely likely for a 2-disc, most likely accompanying the March or October PE next year.
Hercules: Likely for 2-disc Anniversary edition in 2007.
Mulan: Solid 2-disc edition already in print.
Tarzan: Solid 2-disc edition is now OOP and Disney is being assholes and releasing the one-disc edition again.
Fantasia 2000: Likely to get a 2-disc edition in October 2008 to coincide with the Fantasia PE. Possibly porting over what's left from the Fantasia Legacy, along with a couple more features.
The Emperor's New Groove: See Tarzan.
Atlantis: Solid 2-disc still in print. In need of a price drop from $34.99.
Lilo and Stitch: When the hell will we see the US release of the 2-disc???
Treasure Planet: Silenty OOP, so a 2-disc is likely, guessing in 2008 or 2009.
Brother Bear: Solid 2-disc still in print.
Home on the Range: Fairly recent 1-disc, I wouldn't hold out for a 2-disc until 2015 or so.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Would be kickass to see a 2-disc set, one disc with the theatrical version, the other with the restored version (minus Step in the Right Direction). I realized that we couldn't have two versions on one disc with branching options, because audio would be a problem in some parts and quite simply, if each version had its own disc, with bonus features about each on their respective disc, it would give the viewer a choice into which movie he wants to see and which bonus features without changing discs. Does that make sense? it'll essentially be two single-disc SE's in a two-disc set.
Pete's Dragon: Ditto B&B.
The Nightmare Before Christmas: If anything, an anamorphic transfer merits a new edition, though the single-disc is pretty solid and doesn't really scream "I want another disc!"
