IGN.com's Top 25 Animated Films of All Time!

Post by MadonnasManOne »

IGN.com has posted their list of the Top 25 Animated Films of All Time. Many Disney and Disney/Pixar films make the list. In fact, one of them is at the top. Find out which one, here:

http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/650/650717p1.html

Very interesting list. Although I would have put many of the films at different places on the list, the list is pretty solid. Noticeably absent, however, is Cinderella. I'm surprised at that omission.

What are your thoughts of this list?

That list sucks. Final Fantasy, Transformer and South Park. How old are these people? Where is Animal Farm, Millenium Actress and Perfect Blue.

It's not a horrible list. It's just mediorce. I was qiute disappointed to see Monster Inc., The Incredibles, and Shrek higher than Pinocchio, Bambi, and Dumbo. Aladdin was pretty high which was good. I have to agree with Little Red Henski. How old are these people? Not because South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was on that list (I love South Park and the movie is hilairious but #3? Come on!) but more recent flims were higher on that list than olders ones. It's kinda sad if you think about it. Oh well, I shouldn't let it get to me. After all, It's just a list.

I've seen alot of bad lists in my very few years of living, but I can't imagine much worse than this.

South Park at #3????!!!! Yeah and Dumb and Dumberer is the greatest movie ever made!

Seriously SP is nothing more than crude offensive jokes that NEVER make me laugh! Especially with all the poop jokes! I'm still waiting for a Simpsons movie!

And Finding Nemo at 4. How unpredictable! Like 90% of UD knows, I never knew what was so great about FN. It had beautiful animation, but annoying and unfunny characters and repetitive jokes.

Alot of films which I haven't seen, like Final Fantasy, got in there(but according to most critics, the only thing great about it, is the animation so I wouldn't worry about not having seen them).

Now on the possitive side: Toy Story 2 is a deserving winner. I prefer the original, however the original has been #1 on several lists, so it's great to see the sequel get some credit!

Also glad to see that some of my favorites got high spots which include: The Irong Giant, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Incredibles and Aladdin.

However Pinocchio should've been ranked higher than #24! Wait, that peice of crap called "Shrek" gets #14!!!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

BTW where's The Jungle Book and Chicken Run?

I suggest the people who think South Park: The Movie is overrated on the list actually sit down and watch and listen to it. Discover what it is actually about underneath all the poop jokes and swearing. Its actually a sharp, well observed satire, which isn't afraid of biting the hand that feeds it.

Plus, the songs are fantastic. Perhaps 3 is too high, but it deserves to be in the top 10, no question.

The South Park movie shouldn't even be on the list... I saw it and didn't really like it. I can't stand South Park at all actually...
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

South Park is a disgrace to animation. Witty satire or not, most only enjoy it for its fart gags. I also found Nemo getting #4 was an odd choice. It's good, but not that good. For me the top 3 without a doubt would be:

1. Snow White
2. The Little Mermaid
3. Beauty and the Beast / Toy Story

Those three are the ones that impacted the animation industry the most in terms of critical achievement and commercial success! Without the first two, we wouldn't have seen almost half the movies on the list (same goes for Toy Story and CG). At least not exactly as they are now. Beauty and the Beast is the most adult of Disney's films (Fantasia excluded) and in my opinion should've got a higher spot.

Not fair enough, I was also surprised to see to see Aladdin so high? Did they take their time making these lists? Did they even "argue"?

This is a comment they made on the Aladdin DVD Review: "The characters are cookie-cutter, and whose bright idea was it to get Gottfried? Plus, the narrator in the beginning is never brought back to finalize the story, which is a rare moment of inconsistency from Disney.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the movie, not at all, but compared to other modern animation classics it falls short."

It's weird how they gave Beauty and the Beast and Lion King higher scores and yet they rank lower. Now don't get me wrong, I love Aladdin but it wasn't as great as the past two films and the one that follows it.
I've never seen Southpark so I can't judge it, Finding Nemo was good and funny on my first viewing (I found its flaws afterwards), The Incredibles was IMO another overrated pile of (you know what). Perhaps I would've been happier if they left the Asian movies a little lower and placed Disney's first Golden Age at the very top. And yea, I do think Lion King deserves its spot in the top 10.

Did anybody else found Toy Story 2 as the top spot a bit odd? What a weird choice, I think is not #1 material, it doesn't feel right.

I think Millenium Actress and Cinderella should have been on that list instead of movies like Final Fantasy and South Park...Shrek and Finding Nemo should have been lower on the list, too.

But at least The Iron Giant won second place! It deserved it.

Not really. The original has been on several lists like these:

http://www.channel4.com/film/newsfeatur ... ltspage=31
and
http://listsofbests.com/list/57/

so it'd only make sense if the sequel got some respect.

BTW it might be just me, but is anyone else getting tired of hearing people saying that "The Little Mermaid" should've been higher because it "saved" animation. Personally, I believe "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" should've been on there. Maybe people will argue it's a live-action film with animation in it, but it actually saved animation because not only did kids love it, but it made adults realize it was okay to like animation. To tell you the truth without this film, "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" would've probably been flops and UD probably wouldn't be here. While I still like "The Little Mermaid" because it's a very good film, but to say that animation was "saved" because of this film is a bit of a stretch.

I personally disagree with the list, but I am not worrying. This is simply other person's opinions (and just another ordinary person), so it's inevitable that our lists may not exactly match. Thus proving that there's no reason to swear at the computer when you see something like this.

This list was obviously hastily made and they did it without thinking of otherwise more deserving films, they just put down what was off the top of their heads. Nemo, I find, isn't such a great film, it's a good example of a small story that was dragged out. And where the heck was Sleeping Beauty? Arg.

I find this list pathetic. Beauty and the Beast all the way back in 10th?!! Toy Story 2 and South Park in the top 5??? How about all of the forgotten good movies?
Best Movies of 2009:
1. Moon
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. The Hurt Locker
4. Coraline
5. Ponyo

Hmm...

REALLY BAD CHOICES: Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Transformers: The Movie. If these were reputable critics, these would haven made the a top 100 list.

BAD CHOICES: Metropolis. This was was my first anime film I ever saw and from that point on I knew I would never like mecha anime, especially if people considered this the best of that genre. They could have chosen much better anime...

OK, WHATEVER: Monsters, Inc. Good movie, probably best 100 material but not 25. Even the people at Pixar don't like it in comparison to their greats - Toy Story, Finding Nemo, THe Incredibles. Dumbo. Gotta love the cute elephant, but it's not top 25 material. Charlotte's Web. Good movie, but not top 25. Shrek. Same reason. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Just a personal preference. I can think of 25 animated films I like more.

Travesties: Cinderella, The Jungle Book, My Neighbor Totoro, Lady & the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Waking Life, and The Adventures of Prince Achmed, and Akira are worthy, and would have been preferable to any of the ones above. :(
The Top 10 Films of 2005:
1) Brokeback Mountain 2) The Squid and the Whale 3) Me And You And Everyone We Know 4) The New World 5) A History of Violence 6) Match Point 7) Munich 8.) Crash 9) Wallace and Gromit 10) Pride & Prejudice
