Is it true that Fantasia is coming to DVD? j/w

Post by jamminjake245 »

Hey, I've heard various rumors that Fantasia is coming to DVD as a Platinum Edition. Is this true? Is it worth it? From what I hear people are pretty happy with the previous releases.
Wants Muppet Babies on DVD!!
Hopefully if Duckales and Rescue Rangers sell well we will get it!! Don't forget Gummi Bears!

Yes, Fantasia is coming as a Platinum Edition. However, that will be in around six or seven years, and there's a deluxe box called The Fantasia Anthology, which is a set of that movie, along with Fantasia 2000 and an extra disc full of bonus features, which is very much like a Platinum Edition. If you can find it (it's out of print), that may be an option if you're impatient.

I got to rent the 60th anniversary edition and I must say that this one for once truly needs the PE treatment.

Just think for a moment of a complete video restauration AND the DEHTM.

And this is a movie that is precisely based on this 2 elements.

Howdy!

I will venture to guess 2011 - someone over in the International DVD forum said that Disney UK already has the release dates for the next Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast DVD releases! And besides, doesn't Disney UK release their PE DVDs 3 weeks or so after Disney US does?

I am really not in favor of this new release of Fantasia. It has already been released as a box set with all the extras you could ever want. The Dolby Digital soundtrack that was remixed from the six-track magnetic prints was fabulous. I will pass on this attempt to get more money out of my pocket for something that I already have.

Improvements have been made in the (recent) past and there might be more improvements to come eventually. But I'd guess Fantasia has had its treatment for now. It seems to me that some people here merely miss the Platinum banner.

Fantasia DVD

Actually it should make it to DVD sometime in 2008 or no later than 2009.

Jungle Book and 101 Dalmations will round out the original 10 titles that were in the Platinum line by Ocotber of 2007.

That leaves the other 4 title that were added in 2003: Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty. If they continue to release them 2 per year then the last Platinum Collection release should happen in October 2009.

Plus... Disney will want to make all the profits they can out of these movies before the new format arrives... so that they can sell them double to us ;)

You must not read the trades on a daily basis. The HD-DVD is a dead project at this time............and Blu-Ray is on temporary hold because of lack of interest. Doesn't mean that they won't happen, but I don't think it is going to any time soon.

Don't hold your breath.

Thank god. I hated having to skim over the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray talk at TheDigitalBits. I don't see why they have to keep going anyway. DVD is wonderful the way it is. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray is simply an unnecessary increase in quality and quantity, and while I don't mind having a clear picture, I don't want to have to upgrade all my DVD titles to the new format simply to get more pixels on my screen. However, if the new format gave us OAR DVDs of currently P&S DVDs (like half of Disney's catalogue titles), then I'll upgrade and get a backwards compatible DVD player.

When a new and even better format comes along (be it in the near or a more distant future) there should be no need to "upgrade" an entire collection unless you want to.

I will upgrade if it will greatly affect my already existing collection. The few perks about HD-DVD and Blu-ray is a greater picture quality that I can't even notice on my TV, so why should they hype it up and push it?

If at a point DVD's become truly obsolete by a far greater format than HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, then I'll upgrade. But the current format for DVD is what I'll take for now, even if/when the other format comes out.

I really hope I won't have to double dip. I just ordered fantasia anthology for 35 dollars, and I do not want to double dip on the platinum edition which is probably going to be filled with crappy games they put on platinum editions now

If they are adding just some lame games to the platinum edition, I ain't buying it. However, if they significantly imrove the video and sound quality, I might consider buying it. I just gotta wait till I get anthology to know the video quality of fantasia.

Let him brag. I bragged in probably six threads that I found:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Platinum Edition for $16.99
Peter Pan Special Edition for $12.99
Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition for $12.99
Tarzan Collector's Edition for $12.99

And look, I bragged again!! :D

Okay HOW THE HECK DID YOU GET FA FOR $35! I mean I can understand getting Snow White or Beauty and the Beast with decent prices, but there is no way you could get the Anthology for $35!

For some reason I REALLY doubt Disney would put set-top games on the Fantasia Platinum.

1. The Anthology didn't have them, so why would the platinum?

2. Of all the 44 animated classics, this one seems more targeted to adults than the others. So for some reason this I just can't see Fantasia have games on the DVD.

I ordered it from amazon marketplace. It was like new, if you had checked the marketplace like 3 hours ago, it would have been there. Now, the lowest price is like 54 bucks, I stole the 35 dollar one!

I just want them to release the way they advertised it on the box. "Walt's original uncut version."

I plan to save up enough money to be able to afford the Fantasia Anthology, Platinum DVD or not. (Boy, did I EVER wish I had that set when I did my term paper on Fantasia last year...but eh, the Walt Disney commentary on the 60th Anniversary Edition was most helpful!)

And...does anyone else wonder how on earth they'll be able to improve upon Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition? (Aside from putting her in the proper dress on the cover art. :P )

That being said...I am VERY excited about Pinocchio and Peter Pan, as I have neither on DVD already.
