Sounds awesome. I've only seen the first two, but they're both very good. And I recently saw the trailer for Alien: The Director's Cut in the theater.

You can count on Fox to deliver multiple cuts of a film on the same set.

The alternative cut of Alien3 has been certified recently - seems to be about 20 mins longer than the release cut. However, I think Fincher had nothing to do with the editing - but it has been created from Fincher's original notes.

It puts to bed any reluctance I had about upgading my existing 'Alien' box set.
I'm glad Alien³ is getting an extended treatment, as I think this is an unfairly maligned insallment to the series. And I think Fincher is one of the most interesting directors working today (along with fellow ex-music video directors Spike Jonze & Mark Romanek). It is a shame he is not more closely involved with the set (I would have liked to hear a commentary from him), but at least the film seems to be getting a decent treatment.
However, did he ever do one for a laserdisc at any point? Because accordign to that HTF link, the commentary is for the original cut (114m 33s) , and not the extended edition (144m 38s).

On a related note, it is good to see both versions of the films are being included on there. A rare treat, and it is good to see a company has finally got the format right. Although, this is their second crack at the set, Fox always do good SEs.

And that documentary that the US is not getting - I imagine we will get that here too if the UK is getting it. However, it IS included in the current R4 set (which I have). I believe it was a mail-in offer in the original US release, but a 60-something minute documentary called 'Alien Legacy' IS included in the current R4 set as a bonus to the first film (on a separate disc though). At any rate, PLENTY to keep us occupied in that set!!!

I've already sold my old legacy Box... Can't wait for the new collection. The films are awesome even if any movie has its own style.

I think I will wait for the german release. The german FOX DVDs are all pretty good and nearly the same like the R1 Versions.

As for the DVD set - there is a nasty rumour going around that there will only be a limited number of sets, at least in the UK.

The R2 Projectreports that there will only be 130,000 copies. So order now! (just in case)

The re-issue was basically "advertising" for the set. If it brought in some extra cash, then great. Otherwise, it brought in great publicity.

2-disc sets for each film. Disc 9 is going to be exclusive to the set.
