Well...I'm going to try and revive this thread idea after seeing how much fun it was whilst playing in the recently bumped Sleeping Beauty discussion. We basically stopped doing this at around Pocahontas and a similar thread to do with Hunchback appeared, so that would make Hercules the film to target...but I realised that we didn't do a thread about The Great Mouse Detective, so here we go.
I remember seeing this film as a kid and was a bit spooked by it. Despite being a film about talking mice in cute costumes, it does seem a bit maracabre in places (especially the opening scene and those with the cat Felicia). I had kind of avoided it for this reason. That was until around last April when a certain member appeared and made claims of a sequel appearing. For some reason, that thread made me interested in seeing the film again, so I went and bought the DVD.
After watching it, I was pretty impressed and appreciated the film more, mostly to do with Ratigan (surprisingly), who is one of the better villains of Disney. His intentions help to lead to a pretty cool finale (one of the best in Disney history). I'll admit that the film can drag a little bit at times but apart from that, this movie is nice. Overall, it seems like a "step in the right direction" film, as it seems like Disney were on the right path to creating hits like The Little Mermaid with this.
The DVD is a mixed bag (or rather box

And another question; why is the film called Basil the Great Mouse Detective in England? What's with the enforced name?
