Jumanji 2-Disc Deluxe Edition in November
Jumanji 2-Disc Deluxe Edition in November
Looks like Jumanji fans will have something to look forward to this holiday season. The movie is getting a 2-Disc DVD release on November 8th to perhaps coincide with its sequel, Zathura coming to theatres that same week. No extra material or further information has been provided.

There were two releases already? I've only seen the one in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart. Couldn't remember if it was an SE or not. Or were the two releases simply a first-issue barebones and a second-issue SE?Luke wrote:I didn't realize its sequel was coming so soon. I only knew it was long in the development stages. Anyhow, this will be the movie's 3rd DVD release. I got its first two and I don't think there's any way I'll be repurchasing it again.

Yep, that's pretty much it. It was one of Sony's first releases (I believe it even came in a jewel case at one point), and then around late 2000ish (or maybe 2001), it was re-released as a Special Edition with a bunch of extras from the laserdisc. This has been priced down considerably, but I guess now it's time to repackage and repromote!Escapay wrote:There were two releases already? I've only seen the one in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart. Oh! I didn't know there was going to be a sequel. Does anyone know what itss going to be about? Who's in it?
I've been holding out getting Jumangi on dvd as well. Even though I kept seeing it in the $5.50 bin at Walmart, I kept saying that I'll get it another time. Though now I'm definitly waiting to get the 2 Disc edition.

hmmm.........I'll pass.............BaaaaaaD (well a looooong time ago I thought it was good but it's a Bad) Movie with Bad Special Effects........
If it was Mortal Kombat I'd think about it.............(although MK would be classified as BAD it's more CAMPY FUN, great action/comedy, The Sequel was BAD!)

Thats great. I have been losing out on so many of these buying them and then finding out about the new release. I am sure with a lot of them it has been because of a price decrease in anticipation of the new version. Just got burned on the Wizard of Oz and the Blues Brothers.
Now I am turning it around with Batman and Jumanji.

I haven't read Zathura, but it looks like a rehashing of Jumanji, based on the trailer alone. I still want to see it, of course. Is it a true sequel?
Haven't gotten around to picking up Jumanji yet. I really like it (and the book even more), so as long as this is a solid release, I'll pick it up instead of one of the previous ones.

Best answer I found to their connection..........without having to lookMark Carter, a member over at DVDAnswers.com wrote:Zathura was written by the same author as Jumanji, Chris Van Allsburg, and the book was described as a non-direct sequel of sorts. The game transformed itself into Zathura when it was found by the children on the beach at the end of the Jumanji book.
The film version of Zathura departs from the books in that it does not treat the events of Jumanji as part of its storyline. But it explains the similarity of the stories.

Yep, that's just like the cases used for most CDs. A few of the earliest Sony DVDs (from the spring of 1997) were packaged in these, either alongside keepcase versions or later to be supplanted by them.Escapay wrote:Jewel case? Wow. I always wondered why they didn't put DVDs in CD cases. I guess they did at one time.Luke wrote:Yep, that's just like the cases used for most CDs. Well since I only paid 5.50 for the Collectors Edition, I am willing to double dip on this one depending on whats on it.
