Cinderella playing at the El Capitan Theatre

Post by Disney Duster »

Walt Disney's Cinderella will be playing at the El Capitán Theatre from September 15th to September 25th. It will probably show the restored version. So if you want to see a great classic with beautiful animation that will probably be shown in it's amazing restoration on the big screen, here's your chance! And they also say it's a Cinderella "Special Engagement". I don't know what that will be, but it sounds exciting!

Also, The Nightmare Before Christmas will play at the El Capitán Theatre from October 20th to October 31st. They are probably doing that because of The Corpse Bride, another stop-motion animated feature by Tim Burton, coming out around that time. For the link to all this, visit:

That's not fair. :( I'd love to able to see the restored version of Cinderella on the big screen. I'd use my little cousin as an excuse since she's never seen it, plus (as I said in the thread about DVDs coming out the same time as theatrical films), I only go to the movies when someone else is interested in seeing the film in question. If anyone here plans on seeing it, give us back a report (and perhaps some pics taken with your cell phone ;)).

I'll be seeing Cinderella there and I've been told that it will be the restored version and digitally projected.

Cinderella Special Engagement

Post by Disney Duster »

BREAKING NEWS! Now's there's even more of a reason to see Walt Disney's Cinderella at the El Capitán Theatre!

From Cartoon Brew: To celebrate its 55th anniversary, the El Capitán Theatre in Hollywood will be running a digitally restored presentation of CINDERELLA on the big screen for eleven days, September 15th through the 25th, with an opening night panel discussion (9/15 @ 7pm) with animators and filmmakers (names to be announced).

The date draws closer and closer! Will someone be able to go and take pictures and tell us about it?!

Nightmare isn't screening because of Corpse Bride; it's screening because this is a Halloween tradition at the El Capitán. They do it every year I believe.

Is that kind of like the thing they have in the really long version of the Making Of Aladdin feature on the DVD 2nd disc?

Cinderella at the El Capitan Theatre Press Release

Post by Disney Duster »

This is just a reminder that if you want to catch this movie and the discussion panel with animators, voice actors, and others involved in Cinderella, you have to go on September 15th. The discussion panel is only that day, so hurry and get to the El Capitan Theatre if you want to go!

Animated News posted the press release for this event:

Press Release Source: The Walt Disney Studios

Digitally Restored Version of Disney's 'Cinderella' Set for West Coast Premiere and 11-Day Run at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre Starting Sept. 15th; Animated Classic Debuts on DVD on October 4th
Thursday September 8, 10:00 am ET

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Walt Disney's animated masterpiece "Cinderella" will look and sound better than ever when it is digitally projected during a special 11-day engagement at Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre from September 15th - 25th, it was announced today by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. The film, which has undergone an extensive digital restoration that included high resolution scanning of the original camera negative and removal of cel dirt, is scheduled to make its DVD debut on October 4th. The El Capitan engagement of "Cinderella" will kick-off on September 15th with a special filmmakers' panel featuring Ilene Woods- Shaughnessy (the original voice of Cinderella), June Foray (voice of Lucifer the cat), Lucille Bliss (voice of stepsister Anastasia), legendary Disney animator Ollie Johnston, veteran Disney animator Andreas Deja, along with restoration experts John Lowry (founder and CTO of DTS Digital Images), and Disney's Dave Bossert, and Stephen Poehlein. KTLA entertainment reporter Ross King will moderate the discussion. Costume characters from the film -- Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother, and the mice in their crystal coach -- will also be on hand for the opening night festivities. Tickets are available at the box office, by phone (1-800-DISNEY6) or on-line at www.elcapitantickets.com.

To further mark this special engagement, The Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store, located next to the El Capitan Theatre, will be offering an exclusive collectable "Cinderella" pin with each pre-order purchase of the DVD. That offer also includes a commemorative poster for the first 2,000 orders.

Commenting on the announcement, Breier said, "We're thrilled to be bringing this beloved Disney favorite back to the big screen and to be presenting the West Coast premiere of the digitally restored version. The Disney restoration team and DTS Digital Images have used state-of-the-art digital technology to enhance and re-master this classic film to create an exciting new visual experience and a landmark event. Audiences are going to be blown away by the sound and picture quality. This is a wonderful chance to see one of greatest animated masterpieces of all-time as you've never seen it before at Hollywood's legendary movie palace."

John Lowry, founder and CTO of DTS Digital Images (formerly Lowry Digital Images), added, "DTS Digital Images is pleased to have had the opportunity to work on the digital restoration and enhancement of 'Cinderella,' one of Disney's most celebrated animated features. By leveraging our experience and advanced digital restoration technology, we were able to assist the Disney team in presenting this treasured classic in a way that only the original animators experienced."

Why I want to see Cinderella at the El Capitan Theatre

Post by Disney Duster »

Some people think viewings on their home theater systems look better than screenings at movie theaters, but I don't have a high definition, big screen television or surround sound. And since Walt Disney's Cinderella will be digitally projected, I'm sure I would love to see my favorite movie magnificently restored on the big screen. And you can't ask a panel discussion with voice actors and animators questions and get answers on any DVD.
